빌립보서 1

인사

1  그리스도 예수의 종인 바울과 디모데가 그리스도 예수 안에서 빌립보에 살고 있는 모든 성도들과 감독들과 집사들에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 2 하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도께서 내려주시는 은혜와 평화가 여러분에게 있기를 빕니다.

빌립보 성도들에게 감사와 찬사를 표하다

3 나는 여러분을 생각할 때마다, 나의 하나님께 감사를 드립니다. 4 내가 기도할 때마다, 여러분 모두를 위하여 늘 기쁜 마음으로 간구합니다. 5 여러분이 첫 날부터 지금까지, 복음을 전하는 일에 동참하고 있기 때문입니다. 6 선한 일을 여러분 가운데서 시작하신 분께서 그리스도 예수의 날까지 그 일을 완성하시리라고, 나는 확신합니다. 7 내가 여러분 모두를 이렇게 생각하는 것은, 나로서는 당연한 일입니다. t내가 여러분을 내 마음에 간직하고 있기 때문입니다. 여러분 모두는 내가 갇혀 있을 때나, 복음을 변호하고 입증할 때에, 내가 받은 은혜에 동참한 사람들입니다. 8 내가 그리스도 예수의 심정으로, 여러분 모두를 얼마나 그리워하고 있는지는, 하나님께서 증언하여 주십니다. 9 내가 기도하는 것은 여러분의 사랑이 지식과 모든 통찰력으로 더욱 더 풍성하게 되어서, 10 여러분이 가장 좋은 것이 무엇인가를 분별할 줄 알게 되는 것입니다. 그리하여 여러분이 그리스도의 날까지 순결하고 흠이 없이 지내며, 11 예수 그리스도께서 주시는 의의 열매로 가득 차서 하나님께 영광과 찬양을 드리게 되기를, 나는 기도합니다.

바울이 처한 형편

12 형제자매 여러분, 내게 일어난 일이 도리어 복음을 전파하는 데에 도움을 준 사실을, 여러분이 알아주시기를 바랍니다. 13 내가 그리스도 안에서 감옥에 갇혔다는 사실이 온 친위대와 그 밖의 모든 사람에게 알려졌습니다. 14 주님 안에 있는 형제자매 가운데서 많은 사람이, 내가 갇혀 있음으로 말미암아 더 확신을 얻어서, t하나님의 말씀을 겁 없이 더욱 담대하게 전하게 되었습니다. 15 어떤 사람들은 시기하고 다투면서 그리스도를 전하고, 어떤 사람들은 좋은 뜻으로 전합니다. 16 좋은 뜻으로 전하는 사람들은 내가 복음을 변호하기 위하여 세우심을 받았다는 것을 알고서 사랑으로 그리스도를 전하지만, 17 시기하고 다투면서 하는 사람들은 경쟁심으로 곧 불순한 동기에서 그리스도를 전합니다. 그들은 나의 감옥 생활에 괴로움을 더하게 하려는 생각을 품고 있습니다. 18 그렇지만 어떻습니까? 거짓된 마음으로 하든지 참된 마음으로 하든지, 어떤 식으로 하든지 결국 그리스도가 전해지는 것입니다. 나는 그것을 기뻐합니다. 앞으로도 또한 기뻐할 것입니다. 19 나는 여러분의 기도와 예수 그리스도의 영의 도우심으로 내가 풀려나리라는 것을 압니다. 20 나의 간절한 기대와 희망은, 내가 아무 일에도 부끄러움을 당하지 않고 온전히 담대해져서, 살든지 죽든지, 전과 같이 지금도, 내 몸에서 그리스도께서 존귀함을 받으시리라는 것입니다. 21 나에게는, 사는 것이 그리스도이시니, 죽는 것도 유익합니다. 22 그러나 육신을 입고 살아가는 것이 나에게 보람된 일이면, 내가 어느 쪽을 택해야 할지 모르겠습니다. 23 나는 이 둘 사이에 끼여 있습니다. 내가 원하는 것은, 세상을 떠나서 그리스도와 함께 있는 것입니다. 그것이 훨씬 더 나으나, 24 내가 육신으로 남아 있는 것이 여러분에게는 더 필요할 것입니다. 25 나는 이렇게 확신하기 때문에, 여러분의 발전과 믿음의 기쁨을 더하기 위하여 여러분 모두와 함께 머물러 있어야 할 것으로 압니다. 26 내가 다시 여러분에게로 가면, 여러분의 자랑거리가 그리스도 예수 안에서 나 때문에 많아질 것입니다. 27 여러분은 오로지 그리스도의 복음에 합당하게 생활하십시오. 그리하여 내가 가서, 여러분을 만나든지, 떠나 있든지, 여러분이 한 정신으로 굳게 서서, 한 마음으로 복음의 신앙을 위하여 함께 싸우며, 28 또한 어떤 일에서도 대적하는 자들을 두려워하지 않는다는 소식이 나에게 들려오기를 바랍니다. 이것이 그들에게는 멸망의 징조이고 여러분에게는 구원의 징조입니다. 이것은 하나님께서 하시는 일입니다. 29 하나님께서는 여러분에게 그리스도를 위한 특권, 즉 그리스도를 믿는 것뿐만 아니라, 또한 그리스도를 위하여 고난을 받는 특권도 주셨습니다. 30 여러분은 내가 하는 것과 똑같은 투쟁을 벌이고 있습니다. 여러분은 내가 그렇게 하는 것을 보았으며, 내가 그렇게 하는 것을 지금 소문으로 듣습니다.

To all God's people who belong to Christ Jesus at Philippi and to all your bishops and deacons.

2 I pray that God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!

Paul's Prayer for the Church //in Philippi

3 Every time I think of you, I thank my God. 4 And whenever I mention you in my prayers, it makes me happy. 5 This is because you have taken part with me in spreading the good news from the first day you heard about it.

6 God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that he won't stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns.
7 You have a special place in my heart. So it is only natural for me to feel the way I do. All of you have helped in the work God has given me, as I defend the good news and tell about it here in jail.

8 God himself knows how much I want to see you. He knows I care for you in the same way Christ Jesus does.
9 I pray that your love will keep on growing and you will fully know and understand 10 how to make the right choices. Then you will still be pure and innocent when Christ returns. And until that day,

11 Jesus Christ will keep you busy doing good deeds that bring glory and praise to God.

What Life Means to Paul

12 My dear friends, I want you to know that what has happened to me has helped to spread the good news. 13 t The Roman guards and all the others know I am here in jail because I serve Christ.

14 Now most of the Lord's followers have become brave and are fearlessly telling the message.t
15 Some are preaching about Christ because they are jealous and envious of us. Others are preaching because they want to help. 16 They love Christ and know I am here to defend the good news about him. 17 But the ones who are jealous of us are not sincere. They just want to cause trouble for me while I am in jail.

18 But that doesn't matter. All that matters is that people are telling about Christ, whether they are sincere or not. This is what makes me glad.
I will keep on being glad, 19 because I know that your prayers and the help that comes from the Spirit of Christ Jesus will keep me safe.

20 I honestly expect and hope I will never do anything to be ashamed of. Whether I live or die, I always want to be as brave as I am now and bring honor to Christ.
21 If I live, it will be for Christ, and if I die, I will gain even more. 22 I don't know what to choose. I could keep on living and doing something useful. 23 It is a hard choice to make. I want to die and be with Christ, because this would be much better. 24-25 But I know that all of you still need me. This is why I am sure I will stay on to help you grow and be happy in your faith.

26 Then, when I visit you again, you will have good reason to take great pride in Christ Jesus because of me.t

27 Above all else, you must live in a way that brings honor to the good news about Christ. Then, whether I visit you or not, I will hear that all of you think alike. I will know that you are working together and are struggling side by side to get others to believe the good news.
28 Be brave when you face your enemies. Your courage will show them that they are going to be destroyed, and it will show you that you will be saved. God will make all of this happen, 29 and he has blessed you. Not only do you have faith in Christ, but you suffer for him. 30 t You saw me suffer, and you still hear about my troubles. Now you must suffer in the same way.
