Saludo

1 Pablo y Timoteo, siervos de Jesucristo, a todos los santos en Cristo Jesús que están en Filipos,t junto con los obispos y diáconos:2 Gracia y paz reciban ustedes de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesucristo.

Oración de Pablo por los creyentes

3 Doy gracias a mi Dios cada vez que me acuerdo de ustedes.4 En todas mis oraciones siempre ruego con gozo por todos ustedes,5 por su comunión en el evangelio, desde el primer día hasta ahora.6 Estoy persuadido de que el que comenzó en ustedes la buena obra, la perfeccionará hasta el día de Jesucristo.7 Es justo que yo sienta esto por todos ustedes, porque los llevo en el corazón. Tanto en mis prisiones como en la defensa y confirmación del evangelio, todos ustedes participan conmigo de la gracia.8 Porque Dios me es testigo de cuánto los amo a todos ustedes con el entrañable amor de Jesucristo.9 Y esto le pido en oración: que el amor de ustedes abunde aún más y más en ciencia y en todo conocimiento,10 para que aprueben lo mejor, a fin de que sean sinceros e irreprensibles para el día de Cristo,11 llenos de los frutos de justicia que vienen por medio de Jesucristo, para gloria y alabanza de Dios.

Para mí el vivir es Cristo

12 Quiero que sepan, hermanos, que lo que me ha sucedido más bien ha servido para el avance del evangelio,13 de tal modo que mis encarcelamientost por Cristo se han hecho evidentes en todo el pretorio, y a todos los demás.14 Con mis encarcelamientos, la mayoría de los hermanos ha cobrado ánimo en el Señor, y más y más se atreven a hablar la palabra sin temor.

15 A decir verdad, algunos predican a Cristo por envidia y por pelear; pero otros lo hacen de buena voluntad.16 Unos anuncian a Cristo por pelear, y no con sinceridad, pues creen que así añaden aflicción a mis prisiones;17 pero otros lo hacen por amor, y saben que estoy aquí para defender al evangelio.18 ¿Qué diré, entonces? Pues que a pesar de todo, y de todas maneras, sea por pretexto o por verdad, Cristo es anunciado. Y en esto me gozo, y me gozaré aún.

19 Yo sé que por la oración de ustedes, y con el apoyo del Espíritu de Jesucristo, esto redundará en mi liberación,20 conforme a mi anhelo y esperanza de que en nada seré avergonzado, sino que con toda confianza, y como siempre, también ahora Cristo será magnificado en mi cuerpo, ya sea por vida o por muerte.21 Porque para mí el vivir es Cristo, y el morir es ganancia.22 Pero si el vivir en la carne resulta para mí en beneficio de la obra, no sé entonces qué escoger.23 Por ambas cosas me encuentro en un dilema, pues tengo el deseo de partir y estar con Cristo, lo cual es muchísimo mejor;24 pero quedarme en la carne es más necesario por causa de ustedes.25 Y confío en esto, y sé que me quedaré, que aún permaneceré con todos ustedes, para su provecho y gozo de la fe,26 para que abunde su vanagloria por mí en Cristo Jesús, por mi presencia otra vez entre ustedes.

27 Sólo compórtense ustedes como es digno del evangelio de Cristo, para que ya sea que vaya a verlos, o que me encuentre ausente, sepa yo que ustedes siguen firmes, en un mismo espíritu y luchando unánimes por la fe del evangelio,28 sin que en nada los intimiden los que se oponen. Para ellos, ciertamente, es indicio de perdición, pero para ustedes lo es de salvación; y esto de parte de Dios.29 Porque, por causa de Cristo, a ustedes les es concedido no sólo creer en él, sino también padecer por él30 y tener el mismo conflicto que han visto en mí,t y que ahora saben que hay en mí.

2 I pray that God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!

Paul's Prayer for the Church //in Philippi

6 God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that he won't stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns.
7 You have a special place in my heart. So it is only natural for me to feel the way I do. All of you have helped in the work God has given me, as I defend the good news and tell about it here in jail.

8 God himself knows how much I want to see you. He knows I care for you in the same way Christ Jesus does.
9 I pray that your love will keep on growing and you will fully know and understand 10 how to make the right choices. Then you will still be pure and innocent when Christ returns. And until that day,

11 Jesus Christ will keep you busy doing good deeds that bring glory and praise to God.

What Life Means to Paul

14 Now most of the Lord's followers have become brave and are fearlessly telling the message.t
15 Some are preaching about Christ because they are jealous and envious of us. Others are preaching because they want to help. 16 They love Christ and know I am here to defend the good news about him. 17 But the ones who are jealous of us are not sincere. They just want to cause trouble for me while I am in jail.

18 But that doesn't matter. All that matters is that people are telling about Christ, whether they are sincere or not. This is what makes me glad.
I will keep on being glad, 19 because I know that your prayers and the help that comes from the Spirit of Christ Jesus will keep me safe.

20 I honestly expect and hope I will never do anything to be ashamed of. Whether I live or die, I always want to be as brave as I am now and bring honor to Christ.
21 If I live, it will be for Christ, and if I die, I will gain even more. 22 I don't know what to choose. I could keep on living and doing something useful. 23 It is a hard choice to make. I want to die and be with Christ, because this would be much better. 24-25 But I know that all of you still need me. This is why I am sure I will stay on to help you grow and be happy in your faith.

26 Then, when I visit you again, you will have good reason to take great pride in Christ Jesus because of me.t

27 Above all else, you must live in a way that brings honor to the good news about Christ. Then, whether I visit you or not, I will hear that all of you think alike. I will know that you are working together and are struggling side by side to get others to believe the good news.
28 Be brave when you face your enemies. Your courage will show them that they are going to be destroyed, and it will show you that you will be saved. God will make all of this happen, 29 and he has blessed you. Not only do you have faith in Christ, but you suffer for him. 30 t You saw me suffer, and you still hear about my troubles. Now you must suffer in the same way.
