Hälsning

1 Från Paulus och Timoteus, Kristi Jesu tjänare, till alla de heliga i Kristus Jesus som bor i Filippi, tillsammans med församlingsledarna och församlingstjänarna.2 Nåd vare med er och frid från Gud, vår Fader, och Herren Jesus Kristus.

Tacksägelse och förbön

3 Jag tackar min Gud var gång jag tänker på er.4 Så ofta jag ber för er alla gör jag det alltid med glädje,5 eftersom ni har varit med i arbetet för evangeliet från första dagen ända till nu.6 Jag är övertygad om att han som har börjat ett gott verk i er också skall fullborda det intill Kristi Jesu dag.7 Det är inte mer än rätt att jag tänker så om er alla, ty jag har er i mitt hjärta. Både när jag bär bojor och när jag försvarar och befäster evangeliet delar ni allesammans nåden med mig.8 Ja, Gud är mitt vittne att jag längtar efter er alla av hela mitt hjärta, i Kristus Jesus.9 Och min bön är att er kärlek mer och mer skall överflöda och leda er fram till insikt och klart omdöme,10 så att ni kan avgöra vad som är rätt och vara rena och fläckfria på Kristi dag,11 rika på rättfärdighetens frukt som Jesus Kristus ger, Gud till ära och pris.

Fånge för Kristi skull

12 Jag vill att ni skall veta, bröder, att det som har hänt mig snarare har lett till framgång för evangeliet.13 Så har hela pretoriett och alla andra kommit att förstå att det är för Kristi skull jag sitter fängslad.14 Min fångenskap har gjort de flesta av bröderna övertygade i Herren, så att de vågar predika Guds ord ännu mer oförskräckt.15 En del predikar visserligen Kristus för att de är avundsjuka och söker strid, men en del gör det i god avsikt,16 av kärlek, eftersom de vet att jag är satt till att försvara evangelium.17 De andra söker strid och predikar Kristus av orena motiv och tror att de kan göra min fångenskap tyngre.18 Än sen? Kristus blir ändå på ett eller annat sätt predikad, för syns skull eller uppriktigt, och det är jag glad över.
Och jag vill fortsätta att glädja mig,19 ty jag vet att detta kommer att leda till min frälsning, därför att ni ber för mig och Jesu Kristi Ande hjälper mig.20 Det är också min längtan och mitt hopp att jag inte på något sätt skall stå där med skam, utan att Kristus nu som alltid skall av mig frimodigt förhärligas i min kropp, vare sig jag lever eller dör.21 Ty för mig är livet Kristus och döden en vinst.22 Men om livet här på jorden innebär att mitt arbete bär frukt, då vet jag inte vad jag skall välja.23 Jag dras åt båda hållen. Jag skulle vilja bryta upp och vara hos Kristus, det vore mycket bättre.24 Men för er skull är det nödvändigt att jag får leva kvar.25 Och då jag är övertygad om det, vet jag att jag skall leva och bli kvar hos er alla och hjälpa er till framsteg och glädje i tron.26 När jag är hos er igen, kan ni få ännu större anledning att i Kristus Jesus prisa er lyckliga för min skull.

Kämpa för tron

27 Lev nu bara på ett sätt som är värdigt Kristi evangelium, så att jag, vare sig jag besöker er eller inte, får höra att ni står fasta i en och samme ande och i ett och samma sinne kämpar för tron på evangelium28 utan att på något sätt låta er skrämmas av motståndarna. Det blir för dem ett tecken på att de går förlorade, men för er ett tecken på att ni blir frälsta, och det av Gud.29 Ty för Kristi skull har ni fått nåd, inte bara att tro på honom utan också att lida för hans skull,30 eftersom ni har samma strid att utkämpa som ni såg att jag hade och nu hör att jag har.

Philippians 1

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus that are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 I thank my God upon all my remembrance of you,4 always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy,5 for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now;6 being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ:7 even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers with me of grace.8 For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus.9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment;10 so that ye may approve the things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and void of offence unto the day of Christ;11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.12 Now I would have you know, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the progress of the gospel;13 so that my bonds became manifest in Christ throughout the whole praetorian guard, and to all the rest;14 and that most of the brethren in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear.15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:16 the one do it of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel;17 but the other proclaim Christ of faction, not sincerely, thinking to raise up affliction for me in my bonds.18 What then? only that in every way, whether in pretence or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and therein I rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.19 For I know that this shall turn out to my salvation, through your supplication and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death.21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.22 But if to live in the flesh, --if this shall bring fruit from my work, then what I shall choose I know not.23 But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ; for it is very far better:24 yet to abide in the flesh is more needful for your sake.25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide, yea, and abide with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith;26 that your glorying may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence with you again.27 Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ: that, whether I come and see you and be absent, I may hear of your state, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the gospel;28 and in nothing affrighted by the adversaries: which is for them an evident token of perdition, but of your salvation, and that from God;29 because to you it hath been granted in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer in his behalf:30 having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
