Lettre aux Philippiens 2
L’humilité et la grandeur du Christ
1 Votre union avec le Christ vous donne-t-elle du courage ? Son amour vous apporte-t-il du réconfort ? Êtes-vous en communion avec le Saint-Espritt ? Avez-vous de l’affection et de la bonté les uns pour les autres ? 2 Alors, rendez-moi parfaitement heureux en vous mettant d’accord, en ayant un même amour, en étant unis de cœur et d’intention. 3 Ne faites rien par esprit de rivalité ou par désir inutile de briller, mais, avec humilité, considérez les autres comme supérieurs à vous-mêmes. 4 Que personne ne recherche son propre intérêt, mais que chacun de vous pense à celui des autres.
5 Comportez-vous entre vous comme on le fait quand on connaît Jésus-Christt :
6 Il possédait depuis toujours la condition divine,
mais il n’a pas voulu demeurer de force l’égal de Dieut.
7 Au contraire, il a de lui-même renoncé à tout ce qu’il avait et il a pris la condition de serviteurt.
Il est devenu homme parmi les hommes, il a été reconnu comme homme ;
8 il a choisi de vivre dans l’humilité et s’est montré obéissant jusqu’à la mort, la mort sur une croix.
9 C’est pourquoi Dieu l’a élevé à la plus haute place et lui a donné le nom supérieur à tout autre nom.
10 Il a voulu que, pour honorer le nom de Jésus, tous les êtres, dans les cieux, sur la terre et sous la terret, se mettent à genoux,
11 et que tous proclament, à la gloire de Dieu le Père : « Jésus-Christ est le Seigneur ! »t.Briller comme des lumières dans le monde
12 Ainsi, mes chers amis, vous m’avez toujours obéi quand je me trouvais auprès de vous. Eh bien, faites-le encore plus maintenant que je suis absent. Menez à bien votre salut humblement, avec respect,
13 car Dieu agit parmi vous, il vous rend capables de vouloir et de réaliser ce qui est conforme à son propre plan.
14 Faites tout sans plaintes ni contestations, 15 afin que vous soyez irréprochables et purs, des enfants de Dieu sans défaut au milieu des gens faux et mauvais de ce mondet. Vous devez briller parmi eux comme les étoiles dans le ciel,
16 en leur présentant le message de vie. Ainsi, je pourrai être fier de vous au jour de la venue du Christ, car mon travail et ma peine n’auront pas été inutiles.
17 Peut-être mon sang va-t-il être versé, comme une offrande ajoutée au sacrifice que votre foi présente à Dieut. Si tel doit être le cas, j’en suis heureux et vous associe tous à ma joie.
18 De même, vous aussi vous devez être heureux et m’associer à votre joie.Timothée et Épaphrodite
19 Avec confiance dans le Seigneur Jésus, j’ai bon espoir de vous envoyer bientôt Timothée, afin d’être réconforté moi-même par les nouvelles que j’aurai de vous. 20 Il est le seul à prendre part à mes préoccupations et à se soucier réellement de vous. 21 Tous les autres s’inquiètent seulement de leurs affaires personnelles et non de la cause de Jésus-Christ. 22 Vous savez vous-mêmes comment Timothée a donné des preuves de sa fidélité : comme un fils avec son père, il s’est activé avec moi au service de la Bonne Nouvelle. 23 J’espère vous l’envoyer dès que je serai au clair sur ma situation ;
24 et j’ai la certitude, fondée dans le Seigneur, que j’irai moi-même vous voir bientôt.
25 J’ai estimé nécessaire de vous renvoyer notre frère Épaphroditet, mon compagnon de travail et de combat, lui que vous m’aviez envoyé pour m’apporter l’aide dont j’avais besoin. 26 Il désire beaucoup vous revoir tous et il est préoccupé parce que vous avez appris sa maladie. 27 Il a été malade, en effet, et bien près de mourir ; mais Dieu a eu pitié de lui, et non seulement de lui, mais aussi de moi, pour que je n’éprouve pas une tristesse encore plus grande. 28 Je me sens donc d’autant plus pressé de vous l’envoyer, afin que vous vous réjouissiez de le revoir et que ma propre tristesse disparaisse. 29 Ainsi, accueillez-le avec une joie entière, comme un frère dans le Seigneur. Vous devez avoir de l’estime pour des hommes tels que lui, 30 car il a été près de mourir pour l’œuvre du Christ : il a risqué sa vie pour m’apporter l’aide que vous ne pouviez pas m’apporter vous-mêmes.
Philippians 2
1 If there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassions,2 make full my joy, that ye be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind;3 doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself;4 not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.5 Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:6 who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped,7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men;8 and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.9 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name;10 that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth,11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.12 So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;13 for it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.14 Do all things without murmurings and questionings:15 that ye may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye are seen as lights in the world,16 holding forth the word of life; that I may have whereof to glory in the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain neither labor in vain.17 Yea, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all:18 and in the same manner do ye also joy, and rejoice with me.19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.20 For I have no man likeminded, who will care truly for your state.21 For they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ.22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child serveth a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the gospel.23 Him therefore I hope to send forthwith, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me:24 but I trust in the Lord that I myself also shall come shortly.25 But I counted it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow-worker and fellow-soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need;26 since he longed after you all, and was sore troubled, because ye had heard that he was sick:27 for indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow.28 I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy; and hold such in honor:30 because for the work of Christ he came nigh unto death, hazarding his life to supply that which was lacking in your service toward me.
