Aux Philippiens 2
L’humilité et la grandeur du Christ
1 tS’il y a donc quelque encouragement dans le Christ, s’il y a quelque réconfort de l’amour, s’il y a quelque communion de l’Esprit, s’il y a quelque tendresse et quelque magnanimité, 2 tcomblez ma joie en étant bien d’accord ; ayez un même amour, une même âme, une seule pensée ; 3 tne faites rien par ambition personnelle ni par vanité ; avec humilité, au contraire, estimez les autres supérieurs à vous-mêmes.
4 tQue chacun, au lieu de regarder à ce qui lui est propre, s’intéresse plutôt aux autres.
5 tAyez entre vous les dispositions qui sont en Jésus-Christ :
6 tlui qui était vraiment divin,
il ne s’est pas prévalu
d’un rang d’égalité avec Dieu,
7 tmais il s’est vidé de lui-même
en se faisant vraiment esclave,
en devenant semblable aux humains ;
reconnu à son aspect comme humain,
8 til s’est abaissé lui-même
en devenant obéissant jusqu’à la mort
– la mort sur la croix.
9 tC’est pourquoi Dieu l’a souverainement élevé
et lui a accordé le nom
qui est au-dessus de tout nom,
10 tpour qu’au nom de Jésus
tout genou fléchisse
dans les cieux, sur la terre et sous la terre,
11 tet que toute langue reconnaisse
que Jésus-Christ est le Seigneur
à la gloire de Dieu, le Père.Briller comme des flambeaux dans le monde
12 tAinsi, mes bien-aimés, comme vous avez toujours obéi, non pas seulement en fonction de ma présence mais d’autant plus maintenant, en mon absence, mettez en œuvre votre salut avec crainte et tremblement.
13 tCar c’est Dieu qui opère en vous le vouloir et le faire pour son bon plaisir.
14 tFaites tout sans maugréer ni discuter, 15 tpour être irréprochables et purs, enfants de Dieu sans défaut au milieu d’une génération perverse et dévoyée, dans laquelle vous brillez comme les lumières du monde, 16 ten portant la parole de la vie. Ce sera ma fierté, au jour du Christ : ainsi je n’aurai pas couru en vain, je ne me serai pas donné de la peine en vain. 17 tMais même si je dois être répandu comme une libation sur le sacrifice qu’est le service de votre foi, je m’en réjouis, et je me réjouis avec vous tous ;
18 tvous aussi, réjouissez-vous-en ; réjouissez-vous avec moi !Mission de Timothée et d’Epaphrodite
19 tJ’espère, dans le Seigneur Jésus, vous envoyer bientôt Timothée, pour être moi-même rasséréné par les nouvelles que j’aurai de vous ; 20 tcar je n’ai personne d’autre qui partage mes sentiments, pour s’inquiéter sincèrement de votre situation ; 21 ttous les autres, en effet, cherchent leurs propres intérêts et non pas ceux de Jésus-Christ. 22 tMais lui, vous savez qu’il a fait ses preuves : tel un enfant auprès de son père, il a travaillé avec moi, comme un esclave, pour la bonne nouvelle. 23 J’espère donc vous l’envoyer dès que je verrai clair dans ma situation ;
24 tje suis d’ailleurs persuadé, dans le Seigneur, que je viendrai bientôt moi-même.
25 tJ’ai estimé nécessaire de vous renvoyer Epaphrodite, mon frère, mon collaborateur et mon compagnon d’armes, l’apôtre que vous m’aviez envoyé en le chargeant de pourvoir à mes besoins ; 26 tcomme il a une vive affection pour vous tous, il était fort peiné que vous ayez appris sa maladie. 27 Il a été malade, en effet, et tout près de la mort ; mais Dieu a eu compassion de lui – et non pas seulement de lui, mais aussi de moi, pour que je n’aie pas tristesse sur tristesse. 28 Je l’ai donc envoyé avec beaucoup d’empressement, pour que vous vous réjouissiez de le revoir, et que je sois moi-même moins triste. 29 tAccueillez-le, dans le Seigneur, avec une joie entière ; honorez de telles personnes ; 30 tcar c’est pour l’œuvre du Christ qu’il a été près de mourir ; il a risqué sa vie afin de suppléer à votre absence dans votre service pour moi.
Philippians 2
1 If there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassions,2 make full my joy, that ye be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind;3 doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself;4 not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.5 Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:6 who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped,7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men;8 and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.9 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name;10 that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth,11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.12 So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;13 for it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.14 Do all things without murmurings and questionings:15 that ye may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye are seen as lights in the world,16 holding forth the word of life; that I may have whereof to glory in the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain neither labor in vain.17 Yea, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all:18 and in the same manner do ye also joy, and rejoice with me.19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.20 For I have no man likeminded, who will care truly for your state.21 For they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ.22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child serveth a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the gospel.23 Him therefore I hope to send forthwith, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me:24 but I trust in the Lord that I myself also shall come shortly.25 But I counted it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow-worker and fellow-soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need;26 since he longed after you all, and was sore troubled, because ye had heard that he was sick:27 for indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow.28 I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy; and hold such in honor:30 because for the work of Christ he came nigh unto death, hazarding his life to supply that which was lacking in your service toward me.
