빌립보서 2

그리스도의 겸손

1 그러므로 그리스도 안에서 여러분에게 무슨 격려나, 사랑의 무슨 위로나, 성령의 무슨 교제나, 무슨 동정심과 자비가 있거든, 2 여러분은 같은 생각을 품고, 같은 사랑을 가지고, 뜻을 합하여 한 마음이 되어서, 내 기쁨이 넘치게 해 주십시오. 3 무슨 일을 하든지, 경쟁심이나 허영으로 하지 말고, 겸손한 마음으로 하고, 자기보다 서로 남을 낫게 여기십시오. 4 또한 여러분은 자기 일만 돌보지 말고, 서로 다른 사람들의 일도 돌보아 주십시오. 5 t여러분 안에 이 마음을 품으십시오. 그것은 곧 그리스도 예수의 마음이기도 합니다. 6 그는 하나님의 모습을 지니셨으나, 하나님과 동등함을 당연하게 생각하지 않으시고,

7 오히려 자기를 비워서 종의 모습을 취하시고, 사람과 같이 되셨습니다. 그는 사람의 모양으로 나타나셔서,

8 자기를 낮추시고, 죽기까지 순종하셨으니, 곧 십자가에 죽기까지 하셨습니다.

9 그러므로 하나님께서는 그를 지극히 높이시고, 모든 이름 위에 뛰어난 이름을 그에게 주셨습니다.

10  t그리하여 하늘과 땅 위와 땅 아래 있는 모든 것들이 예수의 이름 앞에 무릎을 꿇고,

11 모두가 예수 그리스도는 주님이시라고 고백하여, 하나님 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하셨습니다.

여러분은 하나님의 자녀답게 사십시오

12 그러므로, 사랑하는 여러분, 여러분이 언제나 순종한 것처럼, 내가 함께 있을 때뿐만 아니라, 지금과 같이 내가 없을 때에도 더욱 더 순종하여서, 두렵고 떨리는 마음으로 자기의 구원을 이루어 나가십시오. 13 하나님은 여러분 안에서 활동하셔서, 여러분으로 하여금 하나님을 기쁘게 해 드릴 것을 염원하게 하시고 실천하게 하시는 분입니다. 14 무슨 일이든지, 불평과 시비를 하지 말고 하십시오. 15 그리하여 여러분은, 흠이 없고 순결해져서, 구부러지고 뒤틀린 세대 가운데서 하나님의 흠없는 자녀가 되어야 합니다. 그리하면 여러분은 이 세상에서 별과 같이 빛날 것입니다. 16 생명의 말씀을 굳게 잡으십시오. 그리하면 내가 달음질한 것과 수고한 것이 헛되지 아니하여서, 그리스도의 날에 내가 자랑할 수 있을 것입니다. 17 그리고 여러분의 믿음의 제사와 예배에 나의 피를 붓는 일이 있을지라도, 나는 기뻐하고, 여러분 모두와 함께 기뻐하겠습니다. 18 여러분도 이와 같이 기뻐하고, 나와 함께 기뻐하십시오.

디모데와 에바브로디도

19 나는 주 예수 안에서 디모데를 여러분에게 곧 보내고 싶습니다. 그것은 나도 여러분의 형편을 앎으로써 격려를 받으려는 것입니다. 20 나에게는, 디모데와 같은 마음으로 진심으로 여러분의 형편을 염려하여 줄 사람이 아무도 없습니다. 21 모두 다 자기의 일에만 관심이 있고, 그리스도 예수의 일에는 관심이 없습니다. 22 그러나 t디모데의 인품은 여러분이 잘 알고 있습니다. 그는 자식이 아버지에게 하듯이 복음을 위하여 나와 함께 봉사하였습니다. 23 그러므로 내 일이 되어 가는 것을 보고, 그를 곧 보낼 수 있기를 바랍니다. 24 그리고 나도 곧 가게 되리라는 것을 주님 안에서 확신합니다. 25 그러나 나는, 내 형제요 동역자요 전우요 여러분의 t사신이요 내가 쓸 것을 공급한 일꾼인 에바브로디도를 여러분에게 보내어야 할 필요가 있다고 생각하였습니다. 26 그는 여러분 모두를 t그리워하고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 자기가 병을 앓았다는 소식을 여러분이 들었기 때문에, 몹시 걱정하고 있었습니다. 27 사실, 그는 병이 나서 죽을 뻔하였습니다. 그러나 하나님께서 그를 불쌍히 여기시고, 그만이 아니라 나도 불쌍히 여기셔서, 나에게 겹치는 근심이 생기지 않게 해 주셨습니다. 28 그러므로 내가 더욱 서둘러서 그를 보냅니다. 그것은 여러분이 그를 다시 보고서 기뻐하게 하려는 것이며, 나도 나의 근심을 덜려는 것입니다. 29 그러므로 여러분은 주 안에서 기쁜 마음으로 그를 영접하십시오. 또 그와 같은 이들을 존경하십시오. 30 그는 t그리스도의 일로 거의 죽을 뻔하였고, 나를 위해서 여러분이 다하지 못한 봉사를 채우려고 자기 목숨을 아끼지 않은 사람이기 때문입니다.

PHILIPPIANS 2

True Humility

1 Christ encourages you, and his love comforts you. God's Spirit unites you, and you are concerned for others. 2 Now make me completely happy! Live in harmony by showing love for each other. Be united in what you think, as if you were only one person. 3 Don't be jealous or proud, but be humble and consider others more important than yourselves. 4 Care about them as much as you care about yourselves

5 and think the same way that Christ Jesus thought:t

6 Christ was truly God.
But he did not try to remaint
equal with God.

7 Instead he gave up everythingt
and became a slave,
when he became
like one of us.

8 Christ was humble.
He obeyed God and even died
on a cross.

9 Then God gave Christ
the highest place
and honored his name
above all others.

10  t So at the name of Jesus
everyone will bow down,
those in heaven, on earth,
and under the earth.

11 And to the glory
of God the Father
everyone will openly agree,
“Jesus Christ is Lord!”

Lights in the World

12 My dear friends, you always obeyed when I was with you. Now that I am away, you should obey even more. So work with fear and trembling to discover what it really means to be saved.

13 God is working in you to make you willing and able to obey him.
14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing. 15 t Then you will be the pure and innocent children of God. You live among people who are crooked and evil, but you must not do anything they can say is wrong. Try to shine as lights among the people of this world,

16 as you hold firmly tot the message that gives life. Then on the day when Christ returns, I can take pride in you. I can also know that my work and efforts were not useless.
17 Your faith in the Lord and your service are like a sacrifice offered to him. And my own blood may have to be poured out with the sacrifice.t If this happens, I will be glad and rejoice with you.

18 In the same way, you should be glad and rejoice with me.

Timothy and Epaphroditus

19 I want to be encouraged by news about you. So I hope the Lord Jesus will soon let me send Timothy to you. 20 I don't have anyone else who cares about you as much as he does. 21 The others think only about what interests them and not about what concerns Christ Jesus. 22 But you know what kind of person Timothy is. He has worked with me like a son in spreading the good news. 23 I hope to send him to you, as soon as I find out what is going to happen to me.

24 And I feel sure the Lord will also let me come soon.
25 I think I ought to send my dear friend Epaphroditus back to you. He is a follower and a worker and a soldier of the Lord, just as I am. You sent him to look after me, 26 but now he is eager to see you. He is worried, because you heard he was sick.

27 In fact, he was very sick and almost died. But God was kind to him, and also to me, and he kept me from being burdened down with sorrow.
28 Now I am more eager than ever to send Epaphroditus back again. You will be glad to see him, and I won't have to worry any longer. 29 Be sure to give him a cheerful welcome, just as people who serve the Lord deserve. 30 He almost died working for Christ, and he risked his own life to do for me what you could not.
