1 Lepší chudý poctivec
než prolhaný pitomec. 2 Nadšení bez poznání nestačí,
zbrklý se dopouští mnoha chyb. 3 Člověk padá pro vlastní hloupost,
v srdci má ale na Hospodina zlost. 4 Boháč má přátel habaděj,
chuďas je opuštěn bez přátel. 5 Křivopřísežník trestu neujde,
neunikne, kdo šíří lež. 6 Štědrého člověka si mnozí předcházejí,
s tím, kdo rozdává, se každý přátelí. 7 Chuďase nesnáší ani jeho bratři –
tím spíše se mu vyhnou přátelé!
Snaží se najít slova, ale zbytečně. 8 Kdo se má rád, snaží se získat rozum,
kdo rozvahy se drží, štěstí dosáhne. 9 Křivopřísežník neujde trestu,
kdo šíří klam, ten zahyne. 10 Tupci nesluší žádný přepych,
tím méně otroku vláda nad pány. 11 Prozíravost brání člověku se hněvat,
promíjet vinu je jeho ozdoba. 12 Králova zlost – to je lví řev,
jeho přízeň – rosa na trávě. 13 Tupý syn je neštěstím svého otce,
hašteřivá žena pak crčení bez konce! 14 Dům a majetek bývá po rodičích,
rozumnou ženu však dává Hospodin. 15 Lenost ukolébá člověka k spánku;
kdo je váhavý, zůstane o hladu. 16 Kdo dbá na přikázání, dbá na vlastní duši;
komu je lhostejné, jak žije, zahyne. 17 Kdo pomáhá chudým, půjčuje Hospodinu;
on sám mu jeho dobrodiní odplatí. 18 Napravuj syna, dokud máš naději,
jeho smrt nechtěj dopustit. 19 Vztekloun zasluhuje potrestání;
ušetříš-li ho, zkazíš ho ještě víc. 20 Poslechni radu, přijmi poučení,
abys byl příště moudřejší. 21 Člověk má v srdci mnohé plány,
stane se ale, co chce Hospodin. 22 Po člověku se žádá, aby byl laskavý;
lépe je být chudák nežli podvodník. 23 Úcta k Hospodinu přináší život;
v sytosti a klidu pak člověk může spát. 24 Lenoch k talíři natáhne ruku,
k ústům ji už ale nezvedne. 25 Nabij drzounovi, a prosťáček zmoudří,
pokárej rozumného, a dojde poznání. 26 Napadá otce, vyhání matku
syn hanebný a nestoudný. 27 Přestaň, synu, naslouchat poučení,
a zabloudíš od slov poznání. 28 Ničemný svědek se vysmívá právu,
ústa darebáků hltají hanebnost. 29 Na drzouny čekají soudy,
na hřbety tupců rány.

1 Better is a poor person who walks in his integritys
than one who is perverse in his speecht and is a fool.s

2 It is dangeroust to have zealt without knowledge,
and the one who acts hastilyt makes poor choices.ts

3 A person’s follyt subvertsts his way,
andt his heart ragess against the Lord.

4 Wealth adds many friends,
but a poor person is separatedt from his friend.s

5 A false witnesst will not go unpunished,
and the one who spouts outt lies will not escape punishment.ts

6 Many people entreat the favorts of a generous person,t
and everyone is the friends of the person who gives gifts.t

7 All the relativest of a poor person hate him;t
how much more do his friends avoid him –
he pursues themt with words, but they do not respond.t

8 The one who acquires wisdomt loves himself;t
the one who preserves understanding will prosper.t

9 A false witness will not go unpunished,
and the one who spouts outt lies will perish.s

10 Luxury is not appropriatet for a fool;s
how much less for a servant to rule over princes!s

11 A person’s wisdomt makes him slow to anger,t
and it is his glorys to overlooktss an offense.

12 A king’s wrath is likes the roar of a lion,t
but his favor is like dew on the grass.s

13 A foolish childt is the ruin of his father,
and a contentious wifet is liket a constant dripping.s

14 A house and wealth are inherited from parents,t
but a prudent wifes is from the Lord.

15 Laziness brings ont a deep sleep,t
and the idle persont will go hungry.s

16 The one who obeys commandments guardst his life;
the one who despises his wayss will die.s

17 The one who is graciouss to the poor lendst to the Lord,
and the Lordt will repay hims for his good deed.t

18 Discipline your child, fort there is hope,
but do not set your heartt on causing his death.t

19 A person with great anger bears the penalty,s
but if you deliver him from it once, you will have to do it again.t

20 Listen to advices and receive discipline,
thatt you may become wiset by the end of your life.t

21 There are many planss in a person’s mind,t
but itt is the counselts of the Lord which will stand.

22 What is desirablet for a person is to show loyal love,t
and a poor person is better than a liar.s

23 Fearing the Lordt leadst to life,t
and one who does so will livet satisfied; he will not be afflictedt by calamity.

24 The sluggard plungest his hand in the dish,
and he will not even bring it back to his mouth!s

25 Flogt a scorner, and as a result the simpletons will learn prudence;s
correct a discerning person, and as a result he will understand knowledge.ts

26 The one who robst his fathers and chases away his mother
is a sont who brings shame and disgrace.

27 If you stop listening tot instruction, my child,
you will strayt from the words of knowledge.

28 A crooked witnessts scorns justice,
and the mouth of the wicked devourst iniquity.

29 Judgmentss are prepared for scorners,
and floggings for the backs of fools.
