Psalm 46

For the choir director: A song of the descendants of Korah, to be sung by soprano voices.

1 God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.3 Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
Interlude4 A river brings joy to the city of our God,
the sacred home of the Most High.5 God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed.
From the very break of day, God will protect it.6 The nations are in chaos,
and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
and the earth melts!7 The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israelt is our fortress.
Interlude8 Come, see the glorious works of the LORD:
See how he brings destruction upon the world.9 He causes wars to end throughout the earth.
He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”11 The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.

1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.

6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8 Come and see the works of the Lord,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.

9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.

10 “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
