Salmos 55

1 Escucha, oh Dios, mi oración;
no pases por alto mi súplica. 2 ¡Óyeme y respóndeme,
porque mis angustias me perturban! Me aterran 3 las amenazas del enemigo
y la opresión de los impíos, pues me causan sufrimiento y en su enojo me insultan. 4 Se me estremece el *corazón dentro del pecho,
y me invade un pánico mortal. 5 Temblando estoy de miedo,
sobrecogido estoy de terror. 6 ¡Cómo quisiera tener las alas de una paloma
y volar hasta encontrar reposo! 7 Me iría muy lejos de aquí;
me quedaría a vivir en el desierto. *Selah 8 Presuroso volaría a mi refugio,
para librarme del viento borrascoso y de la tempestad. 9 ¡Destrúyelos, Señor! ¡Confunde su lenguaje!
En la ciudad sólo veo contiendas y violencia; 10 día y noche rondan por sus muros,
y dentro de ella hay intrigas y maldad. 11 En su seno hay fuerzas destructivas;
de sus calles no se apartan la opresión y el engaño. 12 Si un enemigo me insultara,
yo lo podría soportar; si un adversario me humillara, de él me podría yo esconder. 13 Pero lo has hecho tú, un *hombre como yo,
mi compañero, mi mejor amigo, 14 a quien me unía una bella amistad,
con quien convivía en la casa de Dios. 15 ¡Que sorprenda la muerte a mis enemigos!
¡Que caigan vivos al *sepulcro, pues en ellos habita la maldad! 16 Pero yo clamaré a Dios,
y el Señor me salvará.
17 Mañana, tarde y noche
clamo angustiado, y él me escucha. 18 Aunque son muchos los que me combaten,
él me rescata, me salva la vida en la batalla que se libra contra mí. 19 ¡Dios, que reina para siempre,
habrá de oírme y los afligirá! Selah Esa *gente no cambia de conducta, no tiene temor de Dios. 20 Levantan la mano contra sus amigos
y no cumplen sus compromisos. 21 Su boca es blanda como la manteca,
pero sus pensamientos son belicosos. Sus palabras son más suaves que el aceite, pero no son sino espadas desenvainadas. 22 Encomienda al Señor tus afanes,
y él te sostendrá; no permitirá que el justo caiga y quede abatido para siempre. 23 Tú, oh Dios, abatirás a los impíos
y los arrojarás en la fosa de la muerte; la gente sanguinaria y mentirosa no llegará ni a la mitad de su vida. Yo, por mi parte, en ti confío.

Betrayed by a Friend

1 Listen, God, to my prayer!
Don't reject my request.

2 Please listen and help me.
My thoughts are troubled,
and I keep groaning

3 because my enemies attack
with loud shouts.
They treat me terribly
and hold angry grudges.

4 My heart is racing fast,
and I am afraid of dying.

5 I am trembling with fear,
completely terrified.

6 I wish I had wings
like a dove,
so I could fly far away
and be at peace.

7 I would go and live
in some distant desert.

8 I would quickly find shelter
from howling winds
and raging storms.

9 Confuse my enemies, Lord!
Upset their plans.
Cruelty and violence
are all I see in the city,

10 and they are like guards
on patrol day and night.
The city is full of trouble,
evil,

11 and corruption.
Troublemakers and liars
freely roam the streets.

12 My enemies are not the ones
who sneer and make fun.
I could put up with that
or even hide from them.

13 But it was my closest friend,
the one I trusted most.

14 We enjoyed being together,
when we went with others
to your house, our God.

15 All who hate me are controlled
by the power of evil.
Sentence them to death
and send them down alive
to the world of the dead.

16 I ask for your help, [Lord] God,
and you will keep me safe.

17 Morning, noon, and night
you hear my concerns
and my complaints.

18 I am attacked from all sides,
but you will rescue me
unharmed by the battle.

19 You have always ruled,
and you will hear me.
You will defeat my enemies
because they won't turn
and worship you.

20 My friend turned against me
and broke his promise.

21 His words were smoother
than butter, and softer
than olive oil.
But hatred filled his heart,
and he was ready to attack
with a sword.

22 Our [Lord], we belong to you.
We tell you what worries us,
and you won't let us fall.

23 But what about those people
who are cruel and brutal?
You will throw them down
into the deepest pit
long before their time.
I trust you, [Lord]!
