Salmos 58

1 ¿Acaso ustedes, gobernantes, actúan con *justicia,
y juzgan con rectitud a los *seres humanos? 2 Al contrario, con la *mente traman injusticia,
y la violencia de sus manos se desata en el país. 3 Los malvados se pervierten desde que nacen;
desde el vientre materno se desvían los mentirosos. 4 Su veneno es como el de las serpientes,
como el de una cobra que se hace la sorda 5 para no escuchar la música del mago,
del diestro en encantamientos. 6 Rómpeles, oh Dios, los dientes;
¡arráncales, Señor, los colmillos a esos leones!
7 Que se escurran, como el agua entre los dedos;
que se rompan sus flechas al tensar el arco. 8 Que se disuelvan, como babosa rastrera;
que no vean la luz, cual si fueran abortivos. 9 Que sin darse cuenta, ardan como espinos;
que el viento los arrastre, estén verdes o secos. 10 Se alegrará el justo al ver la venganza,
al empapar sus pies en la sangre del impío. 11 Dirá entonces la *gente:
«Ciertamente los justos son recompensados; ciertamente hay un Dios que juzga en la tierra.»

PSALMS 58

A Prayer //When All Goes Wrong

1 Do you mighty peoplet talk
only to oppose justice?t
Don't you ever judge fairly?

2 You are always planning evil,
and you are brutal.

3 You have done wrong and lied
from the day you were born.

4 Your words spread poison
like the bite of a cobra

5 that refuses to listen
to the snake charmer.

6 My enemies are fierce
as lions, [Lord] God!
Shatter their teeth.
Snatch out their fangs.

7 Make them disappear
like leaking water,
and make their arrows miss.

8 Let them dry up like snails
or be like a child that dies
before seeing the sun.

9 Wipe them out quicker
than a pot can be heated
by setting thorns on fire.t

10 Good people will be glad
when they see the wicked
getting what they deserve,
and they will wash their feet
in their enemies' blood.

11 Everyone will say, “It's true!
Good people are rewarded.
God does indeed rule the earth
with justice.”
