Salmos 73

1 En verdad, ¡cuán bueno es Dios con Israel,
con los puros de corazón! 2 Yo estuve a punto de caer,
y poco me faltó para que resbalara. 3 Sentí envidia de los arrogantes,
al ver la prosperidad de esos malvados. 4 Ellos no tienen ningún problema;
su cuerpo está fuerte y saludable.s
5 Libres están de los afanes de todos;
no les afectan los infortunios humanos. 6 Por eso lucen su orgullo como un collar,
y hacen gala de su violencia. 7 ¡Están que revientan de malicia,
y hasta se les ven sus malas intenciones! 8 Son burlones, hablan con doblez,
y arrogantes oprimen y amenazan. 9 Con la boca increpan al cielo,
con la lengua dominan la tierra. 10 Por eso la gente acude a ellos
y cree todo lo que afirman. 11 Hasta dicen: «¿Cómo puede Dios saberlo?
¿Acaso el *Altísimo tiene entendimiento?» 12 Así son los impíos;
sin afanarse, aumentan sus riquezas. 13 En verdad, ¿de qué me sirve
mantener mi corazón limpio y mis manos lavadas en la inocencia, 14 si todo el día me golpean
y de mañana me castigan? 15 Si hubiera dicho: «Voy a hablar como ellos»,
habría traicionado a tu linaje. 16 Cuando traté de comprender todo esto,
me resultó una carga insoportable, 17 hasta que entré en el santuario de Dios;
allí comprendí cuál será el destino de los malvados: 18 En verdad, los has puesto en terreno resbaladizo,
y los empujas a su propia destrucción. 19 ¡En un instante serán destruidos,
totalmente consumidos por el terror! 20 Como quien despierta de un sueño,
así, *Señor, cuando tú te levantes, desecharás su falsa apariencia. 21 Se me afligía el corazón
y se me amargaba el ánimo 22 por mi *necedad e ignorancia.
¡Me porté contigo como una bestia! 23 Pero yo siempre estoy contigo,
pues tú me sostienes de la mano derecha. 24 Me guías con tu consejo,
y más tarde me acogerás en gloria. 25 ¿A quién tengo en el cielo sino a ti?
Si estoy contigo, ya nada quiero en la tierra. 26 Podrán desfallecer mi cuerpo y mi espíritu,s
pero Dios fortaleces mi corazón;
él es mi herencia eterna. 27 Perecerán los que se alejen de ti;
tú destruyes a los que te son infieles. 28 Para mí el bien es estar cerca de Dios.
He hecho del Señor Soberano mi refugio
para contar todas sus obras.

BOOK III

(Psalms 73–89)

God Is Good

1 God is truly good to Israel, t
especially to everyone
with a pure heart.

2 But I almost stumbled and fell,

3 because it made me jealous
to see proud and evil people
and to watch them prosper.

4 They never have to suffer, t
they stay healthy,

5 and they don't have troubles
like everyone else.

6 Their pride is like a necklace,
and they commit sin more often
than they dress themselves.

7 Their eyes bulge with fat,
and their minds are flooded
with foolish thoughts.

8 They sneer and say cruel things,
and because of their pride,
they make violent threats.

9 They dare to speak against God
and to order others around.

10 God will bring his people back,
and they will drink the water
he so freely gives.t

11 Only evil people would say,
“God Most High cannot
know everything!”

12 Yet all goes well for them,
and they live in peace.

13 What good did it do me
to keep my thoughts pure
and refuse to do wrong?

14 I am sick all day,
and I am punished
each morning.

15 If I had said evil things,
I would not have been loyal
to your people.

16 It was hard for me
to understand all this!

17 Then I went to your temple,
and there I understood
what will happen
to my enemies.

18 You will make them stumble,
never to get up again.

19 They will be terrified,
suddenly swept away
and no longer there.

20 They will disappear, Lord,
despised like a bad dream
the morning after.

21 Once I was bitter
and brokenhearted.

22 I was stupid and ignorant,
and I treated you
as a wild animal would.

23 But I never really left you,
and you hold my right hand.

24 Your advice has been my guide,
and later you will welcome me
in glory.t

25 In heaven I have only you,
and on this earth
you are all I want.

26 My body and mind may fail,
but you are my strength
and my choice forever.

27 All-Powerful [Lord] God,
those who stay far from you
will be lost,
and you will destroy those
who are unfaithful.

28 It is good for me
to be near you.
I choose you as my protector,
and I will tell about
your wonderful deeds.
