La mujer y el dragón

1  Entonces fui testigo de un suceso de gran importancia en el cielo. Vi a una mujer vestida del sol, con la luna debajo de los pies y una corona de doce estrellas sobre la cabeza. 2 Estaba embarazada y gritaba a causa de los dolores de parto y de la agonía de dar a luz.

3 Luego fui testigo de otro suceso importante en el cielo. Vi a un gran dragón rojo con siete cabezas y diez cuernos, y una corona en cada cabeza. 4 Con la cola arrastró la tercera parte de las estrellas en el cielo y las arrojó a la tierra. Cuando la mujer estaba a punto de dar a luz, el dragón se paró delante de ella, listo para devorar al bebé en cuanto naciera.

5 Ella dio a luz a un hijo que gobernaría a todas las naciones con vara de hierro. Al dragón le arrebataron el hijo y lo llevaron hasta Dios y su trono. 6 Y la mujer huyó al desierto, donde Dios había preparado un lugar para que la cuidaran durante 1260 días.

7 Entonces hubo guerra en el cielo. Miguel y sus ángeles lucharon contra el dragón y sus ángeles. 8 El dragón perdió la batalla y él y sus ángeles fueron expulsados del cielo. 9 Este gran dragón —la serpiente antigua llamada diablo o Satanás, el que engaña al mundo entero— fue lanzado a la tierra junto con todos sus ángeles.

10 Luego oí una fuerte voz que resonaba por todo el cielo:
«Por fin han llegado
la salvación y el poder,
el reino de nuestro Dios,
y la autoridad de su Cristo.t
Pues el acusador de nuestros hermanos
—el que los acusa delante de nuestro Dios día y noche—
ha sido lanzado a la tierra.

11 Ellos lo han vencido por medio de la sangre del Cordero
y por el testimonio que dieron.
Y no amaron tanto la vida
como para tenerle miedo a la muerte.

12 Por lo tanto, ¡alégrense, oh cielos!
¡Y alégrense, ustedes, los que viven en los cielos!
Pero el terror vendrá sobre la tierra y el mar,
pues el diablo ha descendido a ustedes con gran furia,
porque sabe que le queda poco tiempo».

13 Cuando el dragón se dio cuenta de que había sido lanzado a la tierra, persiguió a la mujer que había dado a luz al hijo varón; 14 pero a ella se le dieron dos alas como las de una gran águila para que pudiera volar al lugar que se había preparado para ella en el desierto. Allí sería cuidada y protegida lejos del dragónt durante un tiempo, tiempos y la mitad de un tiempo.

15 Luego el dragón trató de ahogar a la mujer con un torrente de agua que salía de su boca; 16 pero entonces la tierra ayudó a la mujer y abrió la boca y tragó el río que brotaba de la boca del dragón. 17 Así que el dragón se enfureció contra la mujer y le declaró la guerra al resto de sus hijos, a todos los que obedecen los mandamientos de Dios y se mantienen firmes en su testimonio de Jesús.

18 Entonces el dragón se plantót a la orilla junto al mar.

REVELATION 12

The Woman and the Dragon

1 Something important appeared in the sky. It was a woman whose clothes were the sun. The moon was under her feet, and a crown made of twelve stars was on her head.

2 She was about to give birth, and she was crying because of the great pain.
3  t Something else appeared in the sky. It was a huge red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, and a crown on each of its seven heads.

4 t With its tail, it dragged a third of the stars from the sky and threw them down to the earth. Then the dragon turned toward the woman, because it wanted to eat her child as soon as it was born.
5  t The woman gave birth to a son, who would rule all nations with an iron rod. The boy was snatched away. He was taken to God and placed on his throne.

6 The woman ran into the desert to a place that God had prepared for her. There she would be taken care of for 1,260 days.

Michael Fights the Dragon

10 t Then I heard a voice from heaven shout,
“Our God has shown
his saving power,
and his kingdom has come!
God's own Chosen One
has shown his authority.
Satan accused our people
in the presence of God
day and night.
Now he has been thrown out!

11 “Our people defeated Satan
because of the bloodt
of the Lamb
and the message of God.
They were willing
to give up their lives.

12 “The heavens should rejoice,
together with everyone
who lives there.
But pity the earth
and the sea,
because the devil
was thrown down
to the earth.
He knows his time is short,
and he is very angry.”
13 When the dragon realized it had been thrown down to the earth, it tried to make trouble for the woman who had given birth to a son.

14 t But the woman was given two wings like those of a huge eagle, so she could fly into the desert. There she would escape from the snake and be taken care of for a time, two times, and half a time.
15 The snake then spewed out water like a river to sweep the woman away. 16 But the earth helped her and swallowed the water that had come from the dragon's mouth. 17 This made the dragon terribly angry with the woman. So it started a war against the rest of her children. They are the people who obey God and are faithful to what Jesus did and taught. 18 The dragont stood on the beach beside the sea.
