Apocalisse 16

I sette angeli.

1 Allora udii una voce potente provenire dal tempio e gridare ai sette angeli: « Andate a versare sulla terra i sette calici dell’ira di Dio! ».2 Il primo angelo andò e versò il suo calice sulla terra: ed ecco che una malattia che dava piaghe maligne e dolorose colpì gli uomini che avevano il marchio del mostro e adoravano la sua statua.3 Il secondo angelo versò il suo calice nel mare: l’acqua del mare diventò come il sangue di un morto, e tutti gli esseri viventi che erano nel mare morirono.4 Il terzo angelo versò il suo calice nei fiumi e nelle sorgenti: e le acque furono trasformate in sangue.5 E udii l’angelo che ha potere sulle acque che diceva: « Sei stato giusto a mandare questo castigo, o Signore santo, che sei e che eri.6 Siccome i tuoi santi e i tuoi profeti sono stati martirizzati, ora, in cambio, tu hai versato il sangue dei loro assassini. Se lo sono ben meritato! »7 Ed udii l’angelo dell’altare che diceva: « Sì, o Signore, Dio Onnipotente, le tue punizioni sono vere e giuste! »8 Allora il quarto angelo versò il suo calice sul sole, che aumentò il suo calore e cominciò a tormentare gli uomini.9 Gli uomini furono bruciati da questa vampata di calore, ma non si pentirono, né diedero gloria a Dio, anzi, bestemmiarono contro di lui, che ha il potere di mandare o risparmiare agli uomini questi flagelli.10 Il quinto angelo versò il suo calice sul trono del mostro; e il regno del mostro piombò nelle tenebre. Gli uomini si mordevano la lingua per il dolore11 e maledivano il Dio del Cielo per tutti quei tormenti, ma non vollero pentirsi di ciò che avevano fatto.12 Il sesto angelo versò il suo calice sul grande fiume Eufrate, che si prosciugò, perché servisse da strada agli eserciti dei re che dovevano venire da Oriente.13 Poi, dalla bocca del drago, dalla bocca del mostro e dalla bocca del falso profeta vidi guizzare fuori tre spiriti malvagi simili a rane.14 Sono spiriti di demòni che compiono miracoli e vanno da tutti i governanti della terra con lo scopo di riunirli per la battaglia contro il Signore, nel grande giorno del giudizio del Dio Onnipotente.15 Ma il Signore dice: « Ecco, io verrò inaspettatamente, come un ladro! Beato chi mi sta aspettando e tiene i vestiti a portata di mano, per non fuggire nudo e pieno di vergogna sotto lo sguardo di tutti! »16 E i tre spiriti malvagi riunirono tutti gli eserciti della terra in un posto che in ebraico si chiama Harmaghedòn, ossia la montagna di Meghiddo.17 Allora il settimo angelo versò la sua coppa nell’aria. E dal santuario, presso il trono, una voce potente gridò: « È fatto ».18 Allora seguirono lampi, grida e tuoni, e ci fu un terremoto di tale violenza come mai c’era stato nella storia dell’umanità.19 La grande città si spaccò in tre parti e le città di tutto il mondo crollarono.
Dio si ricordò di tutti i peccati della grande Babilonia, che fu punita: le fece bere fino all’ultima goccia il calice di vino della sua collera.20 Tutte le isole si spostarono e i monti scomparvero.21 Allora dal cielo cadde sugli uomini una terribile grandine con i chicchi del peso di circa quaranta chili ognuno; e gli uomini bestemmiarono Dio per quella tremenda catastrofe.

Revelation 16

1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple, saying to the seven angels, Go ye, and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God into the earth.2 And the first went, and poured out his bowl into the earth; and it became a noisome and grievous sore upon the men that had the mark of the beast, and that worshipped his image.3 And the second poured out his bowl into the sea; and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living soul died, even the things that were in the sea.4 And the third poured out his bowl into the rivers and the fountains of the waters; and it became blood.5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying, Righteous art thou, who art and who wast, thou Holy One, because thou didst thus judge:6 for they poured out the blood of the saints and the prophets, and blood hast thou given them to drink: they are worthy.7 And I heard the altar saying, Yea, O Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.8 And the fourth poured out his bowl upon the sun; and it was given unto it to scorch men with fire.9 And men were scorched men with great heat: and they blasphemed the name of God who hath the power over these plagues; and they repented not to give him glory.10 And the fifth poured out his bowl upon the throne of the beast; and his kingdom was darkened; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,11 and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they repented not of their works.12 And the sixth poured out his bowl upon the great river, the river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way might by made ready for the kings that come from the sunrising.13 And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits, as it were frogs:14 for they are spirits of demons, working signs; which go forth unto the kings of the whole world, to gather them together unto the war of the great day of God, the Almighty.15 (Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walked naked, and they see his shame.)16 And they gathered them together into the place which is called in Hebrew Har-magedon.17 And the seventh poured out his bowl upon the air; and there came forth a great voice out of the temple, from the throne, saying, It is done:18 and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunders; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since there were men upon the earth, so great an earthquake, so mighty.19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and Babylon the great was remembered in the sight of God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.21 And great hail, every stone about the weight of a talent, cometh down out of heaven upon men: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof is exceeding great.
