Las copas de ira
1 Luego oí que del templo salía una fuerte voz, que les decía a los siete ángeles: «¡Vayan y derramen sobre la tierra las siete copas de la ira de Dios!»
2 El primer ángel fue y derramó su copa sobre la tierra, y a todos los que tenían la marca de la bestia y adoraban su imagen les salió una úlcera maligna y pestilente.t
3 El segundo ángel derramó su copa sobre el mar, y el mar se convirtió en sangre, como de la sangre de un muerto; y murieron todos los seres vivos que había en el mar.
4 El tercer ángel derramó su copa sobre ríos y manantiales, y sus aguas se convirtieron en sangre.t5 Y oí que el ángel de las aguas decía:«Justo eres tú, Señor,
el que eres, y el que eras;
el Santo que ha juzgado estas cosas.
6 Tú les has dado a beber sangre,
pues ellos se lo merecen
porque derramaron la sangre
de los santos y de los profetas.»
7 Oí también que otro decía desde el altar:«Ciertamente, Señor y Dios Todopoderoso,
tus juicios son justos y verdaderos.»
8 El cuarto ángel derramó su copa sobre el sol, con lo que se le permitió quemar con fuego al género humano.9 Y hombres y mujeres se quemaron con ese gran calor, pero en vez de arrepentirse y dar gloria al nombre de Dios, que tiene poder sobre estas plagas, blasfemaron contra él.
10 El quinto ángel derramó su copa sobre el trono de la bestia, y su reino se cubrió de tinieblas.t La gente se mordía la lengua de dolor,11 y por causa de sus dolores y sus úlceras blasfemaron contra el Dios del cielo, pero no se arrepintieron de sus obras.
12 El sexto ángel derramó su copa sobre el gran río Éufrates; y el agua del río se secó, para preparar el camino a los reyes que venían del oriente.t13 De la boca del dragón, de la boca de la bestia, y de la boca del falso profeta, vi salir tres espíritus impuros con aspecto de ranas.14 Éstos son espíritus de demonios que hacen señales milagrosas, y que salieron por todo el mundo para reunir a los reyes de la tierra, para la batalla del gran día del Dios Todopoderoso.15 «Miren, yo vengo como un ladrón.t Bienaventurados los que se mantengan despiertos y conserven sus ropas, no sea que se queden desnudos y se vea la vergüenza de su desnudez.»16 Y los reunió en el lugar que en hebreo se llama «Armagedón».t
17 El séptimo ángel derramó su copa en el aire, y desde el trono en el templo salió una fuerte voz que decía: «Todo está hecho».18 Entonces hubo relámpagos, voces y truenos, y un gran temblor de tierra. ¡Nunca antes, desde que la humanidad existe, había habido un terremotot tan grande!19 La gran ciudad se partió en tres, y las ciudades de las naciones se vinieron abajo; entonces Dios se acordó de la gran Babilonia y le dio a beber de la copa que tenía el ardiente vino de su ira,t20 y todas las islas y los montes desaparecieron.t21 Del cielo cayó sobre la gente una enorme granizada,t con granizos que pesaban más de veinte kilos; y fue tan grande la plaga de granizo que toda la gente blasfemó contra Dios.
REVELATION 16
The Bowls of God's Anger
1 From the temple I heard a voice shout to the seven angels, “Go and empty the seven bowls of God's anger on the earth.”
2 t The first angel emptied his bowl on the earth. At once ugly and painful sores broke out on everyone who had the mark of the beast and worshiped the idol.
3 The second angel emptied his bowl on the sea. At once the sea turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died.
4 t The third angel emptied his bowl into the rivers and streams. At once they turned to blood.
5 Then I heard the angel, who has power over water, say,
“You have always been,
and you always will be
the holy God.
You had the right
to judge in this way.
6 They poured out the bloodt
of your people
and your prophets.
So you gave them blood
to drink as they deserve!”
7 After this, I heard
the altar shout,
“Yes, Lord God All-Powerful,
your judgments are honest
and fair.”
8 The fourth angel emptied his bowl on the sun, and it began to scorch people like fire.
9 Everyone was scorched by its great heat, and all of them cursed the name of God who had power over these terrible troubles. But no one turned to God and praised him.
10 t The fifth angel emptied his bowl on the throne of the beast. At once darkness covered its kingdom, and its people began biting their tongues in pain.
11 And because of their painful sores, they cursed the God who rules in heaven. But still they did not stop doing evil things.
12 t The sixth angel emptied his bowl on the great Euphrates River, and it completely dried up to make a road for the kings from the east. 13 An evil spirit that looked like a frog came out of the mouth of the dragon. One also came out of the mouth of the beast, and another out of the mouth of the false prophet.
14 These evil spirits had the power to work miracles. They went to every king on earth, to bring them together for a war against God All-Powerful. But that will be the day of God's great victory.
15 t Remember Christ says, “When I come, it will surprise you like a thief! But God will bless you, if you are awake and ready. Then you won't have to walk around naked and be ashamed.”
16 t Those armies came together in a place that in Hebrew is called Armagedon.t
17 As soon as the seventh angel emptied his bowl in the air, a loud voice from the throne in the temple shouted, “It's done!” 18 t There were flashes of lightning, roars of thunder, and the worst earthquake in all history. 19 t The great city of Babylon split into three parts, and the cities of other nations fell. So God made Babylon drink from the wine cup filled with his anger. 20 t Every island ran away, and the mountains disappeared. 21 t Hailstones, weighing about 50 kilograms each, fell from the sky on people. Finally, the people cursed God, because the hail was so terrible.
