Revelation 18

1 After these things I saw another angel coming down out of heaven, having great authority; and the earth was lightened with his glory.2 And he cried with a mighty voice, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and is become a habitation of demons, and a hold of every unclean spirit, and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird.3 For by the wine of the wrath of her fornication all the nations are fallen; and the kings of the earth committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth waxed rich by the power of her wantonness.4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come forth, my people, out of her, that ye have no fellowship with her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues:5 for her sins have reached even unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.6 Render unto her even as she rendered, and double unto her the double according to her works: in the cup which she mingled, mingle unto her double.7 How much soever she glorified herself, and waxed wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall in no wise see mourning.8 Therefore in one day shall her plagues come, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire; for strong is the Lord God who judged her.9 And the kings of the earth, who committed fornication and lived wantonly with her, shall weep and wail over her, when they look upon the smoke of her burning,10 standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.11 And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, for no man buyeth their merchandise any more;12 merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stone, and pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet; and all thyine wood, and every vessel of ivory, and every vessel made of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble;13 and cinnamon, and spice, and incense, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep; and merchandise of horses and chariots and slaves; and souls of men.14 And the fruits which thy soul lusted after are gone from thee, and all things that were dainty and sumptuous are perished from thee, and men shall find them no more at all.15 The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning;16 saying, Woe, woe, the great city, she that was arrayed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stone and pearl!17 for in an hour so great riches is made desolate. And every shipmaster, and every one that saileth any wither, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood afar off,18 and cried out as they looked upon the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like the great city?19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, wherein all that had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye saints, and ye apostles, and ye prophets; for God hath judged your judgment on her.21 And a strong angel took up a stone as it were a great millstone and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with a mighty fall shall Babylon, the great city, be cast down, and shall be found no more at all.22 And the voice of harpers and minstrels and flute-players and trumpeters shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft, shall be found any more at all in thee; and the voice of a mill shall be heard no more at all in thee;23 and the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the princes of the earth; for with thy sorcery were all the nations deceived.24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all that have been slain upon the earth.

Revelation 18

Babylon is Destroyed

1 After these things I saw another angel, who possessed great authority, coming down out of heaven, and the earth was lit up by his radiance.t

2 Het shouted with a powerful voice:
“Fallen, fallen, is Babylon the great!
Shet has become a lair for demons,
a hauntt for every unclean spirit,
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detested beast.s

3 For all the nationst have fallens from
the wine of her immoral passion,t
and the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her,
and the merchants of the earth have gotten rich from the power of her sensual behavior.”t
4 Thent I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, so you will not take part in her sins and so you will not receive her plagues,5 because her sins have piledt up all the way to heavent and God has rememberedt her crimes.t6 Repay her the same way she repaid others;t pay her back doublet corresponding to her deeds. In the cup she mixed, mix double the amount for her.7 As much ast she exalted herself and lived in sensual luxury,t to this extent give her torment and grief because she said to herself,t ‘I rule as queen and am no widow; I will never experience grief!’

8 For this reason, she will experience her plaguest in a single day: disease,t mourning,t and famine, and she will be burned downt with fire, because the Lord God who judges her is powerful!”
9 Thent the kings of the earth who committed immoral acts with her and lived in sensual luxuryt with her will weep and wail for her when they see the smoke from the fire that burns her up.t

10 They will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment, and will say,
“Woe, woe, O great city,
Babylon the powerful city!
For in a single hour your doomt has come!”
11 Thent the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn for her because no one buys their cargot any longer –12 cargo such as gold, silver,t precious stones, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk,t scarlet cloth,t all sorts of things made of citron wood,t all sorts of objects made of ivory, all sorts of things made of expensive wood, bronze, iron and marble,

13 cinnamon, spice,t incense, perfumed ointment,t frankincense,t wine, olive oil and costly flour,t wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and four-wheeled carriages,t slaves and human lives.t

14 (The ripe fruitt you greatly desiredt
has gone from you,
and all your luxuryt and splendort
have gone from you –
they will never ever be found again!)ts
15 The merchants who soldt these things, who got rich from her, will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment. They will weept and mourn,

16 saying,
“Woe, woe, O great city –
dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet clothing,t
and adorned with gold,t precious stones, and pearls –

17 because in a single hour such great wealth has been destroyed!”t
And every ship’s captain,t and all who sail along the coastt – seamen, and all whot make their living from the sea, stood a long way off
18 and began to shoutt when they saw the smoke from the fire that burned her up,t “Who is like the great city?”

19 And they threw dust on their heads and were shouting with weeping and mourning,t
“Woe, Woe, O great city –
in which all those who had ships on the sea got rich from her wealth –
because in a single hour she has been destroyed!”t

20 (Rejoice over her, O heaven,
and you saints and apostles and prophets,
for God has pronounced judgmentt against her on your behalf!)ts

21 Thent one powerful angel picked up a stone like a huge millstone, threw it into the sea, and said,
“With this kind of sudden violent forcet
Babylon the great city will be thrown downs
and it will never be found again!

22 And the sound of the harpists, musicians,
flute players, and trumpeters
will never be heard in yout again.
Not craftsmant who practices any trade
will ever be found in you again;
the noise of a millt will never be heard in you again.

23 Even the light from a lamp
will never shine in you again!
The voices of the bridegroom and his bride
will never be heard in you again.
For your merchants were the tycoons of the world,
because all the nationst were deceived by your magic spells!t

24 Thet blood of the saints and prophets was found in her,t
along with the bloodt of all those who had been killed on the earth.”
