Die boodskap aan Efese

1 Skrywe aan die leraar van die gemeente in Efese: So sê Hy wat die sewe sterre in sy regterhand vashou en wat tussen die sewe goue lampe rondgaan:

2 Ek weet alles wat julle doen. Ek ken julle onvermoeide arbeid en julle volharding. Julle kan nie slegte mense verdra nie. Julle het ondersoek ingestel na die mense wat voorgee dat hulle apostels is, en dit nie is nie, en gevind dat hulle leuenaars is. 3 Verder volhard julle ook; julle het baie vir my Naam verduur, en julle het nie moeg geword nie.

4 Maar Ek het dít teen julle: julle het My nie meer so lief soos in die begin nie.

5 Dink daaraan hoe ver julle al agteruitgegaan het. Bekeer julle en doen weer wat julle in die begin gedoen het. Anders, as julle julle nie bekeer nie, kom Ek na julle toe en sal Ek julle lamp van sy plek af wegvat! 6 Maar dít het julle darem in julle guns: julle verafsku wat die Nikolaïete doen, net soos Ek dit ook verafsku.

7 Elkeen wat kan hoor, moet luister na wat die Gees vir die gemeentes sê. Aan elkeen wat die oorwinning behaal, sal Ek te ete gee van die boom van die lewe, wat in die paradys van God is.

Die boodskap aan Smirna

8 Skrywe aan die leraar van die gemeente in Smirna: So sê die Eerste en die Laaste, wat dood was en weer lewend geword het:

9 Ek ken julle verdrukking en julle armoede, en tog is julle ryk. Ek weet ook van die kwaadstokery van die mense wat daarop aanspraak maak dat hulle Jode is, en dit nie is nie, maar tot die sinagoge van die Satan behoort.

10 Moenie bang wees vir wat julle alles gaan ly nie. Kyk, die duiwel gaan party van julle in die tronk laat gooi, sodat julle in beproewing sal kom, en julle sal tien dae lank baie swaar kry. Bly getrou tot die dood toe, en Ek sal julle die lewe as kroon gee.

11 Elkeen wat kan hoor, moet luister na wat die Gees vir die gemeentes sê. Dié wat die oorwinning behaal, sal beslis nie deur die tweede dood getref word nie.

Die boodskap aan Pergamum

12 Skrywe aan die leraar van die gemeente in Pergamum: So sê Hy wat die skerp swaard met die twee snykante het:

13 Ek ken die plek waar julle bly, daar waar die troon van die Satan is. Tog bly julle aan my Naam getrou en julle het nie julle geloof in My afgesweer nie, selfs nie in die tyd toe Antipas, my getroue getuie, doodgemaak is daar by julle waar die Satan bly nie.

14 Maar Ek het 'n paar dinge teen julle. Julle het mense daar wat die leer van Bileam aanhang. Hy het vir Balak geleer om die volk Israel van My afvallig te maak, sodat hulle afgodsoffervleis geëet en onsedelikheid bedrywe het. 15 So is daar onder julle dan ook mense wat die leer van die Nikolaïete aanhang en dieselfde sondes doen.

16 Bekeer julle nou, anders kom Ek gou na julle toe en sal Ek daardie mense bestry met die swaard van my mond.

17 Elkeen wat kan hoor, moet luister na wat die Gees vir die gemeentes sê. Aan elkeen wat die oorwinning behaal, sal Ek van die verborge manna gee, en daarby sal Ek vir hom 'n wit steentjie gee met 'n nuwe naam daarop gegraveer, wat niemand anders ken nie, net hy wat dit kry.

Die boodskap aan Tiatira

18 Skrywe aan die leraar van die gemeente in Tiatira: So sê die Seun van God, wie se oë soos vuur vlam en wie se voete soos geelkoper is:

19 Ek weet alles wat julle doen. Ek ken julle liefde, geloof, diensvaardigheid en volharding en Ek weet dat julle nou ook meer doen as tevore.

20 Maar Ek het dít teen julle dat julle die vrou Isebel laat begaan. Sy doen haar as profetes voor en leer en verlei my dienaars om onsedelikheid te bedrywe en afgodsoffervleis te eet. 21 Ek het haar kans gegee om haar te bekeer, maar sy wil haar nie van haar onsedelikheid bekeer nie. 22 Kyk, Ek gee haar aan 'n siekbed oor, en die mense wat met haar owerspel gepleeg het, aan swaar lyding — as hulle hulle nie van haar praktyke bekeer nie. 23 Haar volgelinge sal Ek deur 'n pessiekte om die lewe bring. Dan sal al die gemeentes weet dat dit Ek is, die Een wat die gedagtes en begeertes van die mens deurgrond. Ek sal elkeen van julle straf volgens julle doen en late.

24 Maar vir julle ander in Tiatira, wat nie hierdie leer aanhang en nie die “diep geheimenisse van die Satan”, soos hulle dit noem, leer ken het nie, sê Ek: Ek lê op julle geen ander verpligting nie; 25 hou net vas wat julle het, totdat Ek kom.

26 Aan elkeen wat die oorwinning behaal en tot die einde toe volhou om te doen wat Ek wil hê, sal Ek mag en gesag oor die nasies gee. 27 Hy sal hulle met 'n ystersepter regeer, hulle soos kleipotte stukkend slaan. 28 Dieselfde mag en gesag het Ek ook van my Vader gekry. Daarby sal Ek vir elkeen wat die oorwinning behaal, die môrester gee.

29 Elkeen wat kan hoor, moet luister na wat die Gees vir die gemeentes sê.

Revelation 2

1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write: These things saith he, who holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them that are evil, and thou hast tried them, who say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:3 And thou hast patience, and hast endured for my name, and hast not fainted.4 But I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first charity.5 Be mindful therefore from whence thou art fallen: and do penance, and do the first works. Or else I come to thee, and will move thy candlestick out of its place, except thou do penance.6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaites, which I also hate.7 He, that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches: To him, that overcometh, I will give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of my God.8 And to the angel of the church of Smyrna write: These things saith the First and the Last, who was dead, and is alive:9 I know thy tribulation and thy poverty, but thou art rich: and thou art blasphemed by them that say they are Jews and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil will cast some of you into prison that you may be tried: and you shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful until death: and I will give thee the crown of life.11 He, that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches: He that shall overcome, shall not be hurt by the second death.12 And to the angel of the church of Pergamus write: These things, saith he, that hath the sharp two edged sword:13 I know where thou dwellest, where the seat of Satan is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith. Even in those days when Antipas was my faithful witness, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.14 But I have against thee a few things: because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat, and to commit fornication:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaites.16 In like manner do penance: if not, I will come to thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.17 He, that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches: To him that overcometh, I will give the hidden manna, and will give him a white counter, and in the counter, a new name written, which no man knoweth, but he that receiveth it.18 And to the angel of the church of Thyatira write: These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like to a flame of fire, and his feet like to fine brass.19 I know thy works, and thy faith, and thy charity, and thy ministry, and thy patience, and thy last works which are more than the former.20 But I have against thee a few things: because thou sufferest the woman Jezabel, who calleth herself a prophetess, to teach, and to seduce my servants, to commit fornication, and to eat of things sacrificed to idols.21 And I gave her a time that she might do penance, and she will not repent of her fornication.22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed: and they that commit adultery with her shall be in very great tribulation, except they do penance from their deeds.23 And I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am he that searcheth the reins and hearts, and I will give to every one of you according to your works. But to you I say,24 And to the rest who are at Thyatira: Whosoever have not this doctrine, and who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will not put upon you any other burthen.25 Yet that, which you have, hold fast till I come.26 And he that shall overcome, and keep my works unto the end, I will give him power over the nations.27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron, and as the vessel of a potter they shall be broken,28 As I also have received of my Father: and I will give him the morning star.29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.
