Der Brief an die Gemeinde in Ephesus

1 t»Schreib an den Engelt der Gemeinde in Ephesus:
Der in seiner rechten Hand die sieben Sterne hält und zwischen den sieben goldenen Leuchtern umhergeht, der lässt dieser Gemeinde sagen:2 tIch weiß, wie viel Gutes du tust, weiß von all deiner Arbeit, und ich kenne auch deine Standhaftigkeit. Es ist gut, dass du die Bösen in eurer Mitte nicht duldest und die als Lügner entlarvst, die sich als Apostel ausgeben und es doch nicht sind.3 Geduldig hast du für mich Schweres ertragen und niemals aufgegeben.

4 tAber das eine habe ich gegen dich: Deine Liebe ist nicht mehr so stark wie früher.5 Erinnere dich daran, mit welcher Hingabe du einmal begonnen hast. Was ist davon geblieben? Kehre um, und handle wieder so wie zu Beginn.t Sonst werde ich kommen und deinen Leuchter von seinem Platz stoßen.6 tEins aber will ich dir zugute halten: Dir ist das Treiben der Nikolaªtent ebenso verhasst wie mir.

7 tHört genau hin, und achtet darauf, was Gottes Geist den Gemeinden sagt. Denn wer durchhält und den Sieg erringt, dem will ich die Früchte vom Baum des Lebens zu essen geben, der in Gottes Paradies steht.«

8 t»An den Engel der Gemeinde in Smyrna schreibe:
Diese Botschaft kommt von dem, der zugleich der Erste und der Letzte ist, der tot war und nun wieder lebt.

9 tIch kenne alle deine Leiden und weiß, in welcher Armut du lebst; doch in Wirklichkeit bist du reich. Mir ist auch nicht entgangen, wie bösartig euch die Leute verleumden, die sich als fromme Juden ausgeben, in Wirklichkeit aber Gehilfen des Satans sind.10 tFürchte dich nicht vor dem, was dir noch bevorsteht. Der Teufel wird einige von euch ins Gefängnis bringen, um euch auf die Probe zu stellen. Zehn Tage lang werdet ihr leiden müssen. Doch wenn du mir treu bleibst bis zum Tod, werde ich dir als Siegespreis das ewige Leben geben.

11 tHört genau hin, und achtet darauf, was Gottes Geist den Gemeinden sagt. Wer durchhält und den Sieg erringt, dem wird der zweite, der ewige Tod nichts anhaben können.«

12 t»Schreib an den Engel der Gemeinde in Pergamon:
Das lässt dir der sagen, der das scharfe, doppelschneidige Schwert trägt.13 Ich weiß, dass du in einer Stadt wohnst, die vom Satan regiert wird. Trotzdem bekennst du dich treu zu mir und hast deinen Glauben nicht widerrufen; selbst dann nicht, als Antipas, mein treuer Zeuge, in dieser Hochburg des Satans getötet wurde.

14 tUnd doch habe ich etwas an dir auszusetzen: Du duldest in eurer Mitte Leute, die an der Lehre Bileams festhalten. Aber Bileam brachte Balak dazu, das Volk Israel ins Verderben zu stürzen. Er verführte sie, das Fleisch von Götzenopfern zu essen, und verleitete sie zu sexueller Zügellosigkeit.15 Es gibt unter euch Leute, die den Nikolaªten und ihrer Irrlehre folgen.t16 Kehr zu mir um, sonst werde ich sehr schnell zu dir kommen und gegen diese Leute mit dem Schwert aus meinem Mund kämpfen.

17 Hört genau hin, und achtet darauf, was Gottes Geist den Gemeinden sagt. Wer durchhält und den Sieg erringt, wird Brot vom Himmelt essen. Als Zeichen des Sieges werde ich ihm einen weißen Stein geben. Darauf steht ein neuer Name, den nur der kennt, der ihn erhält.«

18 t»Schreib an den Engel der Gemeinde in Thyatira:
Dies sagt dir der Sohn Gottes, dessen Augen wie die Flammen eines Feuers glühen und dessen Füße wie flüssiges Golderz glänzen.19 tIch sehe alles, was du tust. Ich weiß, mit welcher Liebe du mir dienst und mit welcher Treue du am Glauben festhältst. Ich kenne deinen Dienst für andere und deine Geduld. Und heute setzt du dich noch mehr ein als früher.

20 tTrotzdem habe ich etwas an dir auszusetzen: Du unternimmst nichts gegen Isebel, die sich als Prophetin ausgibt. Durch ihre Lehre verführt sie die Gläubigen zu sexueller Zügellosigkeit und ermuntert sie, ohne Bedenken das Fleisch der Götzenopfer zu essen.21 Diese Frau hat genug Zeit gehabt, ihr Leben zu ändern. Aber sie weigert sich, zu mir umzukehren.22 Darum werfe ich sie aufs Bett, zusammen mit all ihren Liebhabern. Dort werden sie leiden müssen, wenn sie nicht ihr böses Treiben beenden.23 tIsebels Kinder werde ich dem Tod ausliefern. Dann werden alle Gemeinden wissen, dass ich die Menschen durch und durch kenne, selbst ihre geheimsten Gedanken und Wünsche. Und jeder wird den Lohn von mir bekommen, den er verdient.

24 Allen anderen in Thyatira, die der Irrlehre nicht gefolgt sind und sich auf diese so genannten tiefen Erkenntnisse über den Satan nicht eingelassen haben, will ich keine zusätzlichen Lasten auferlegen.25 tHaltet nur unerschütterlich an dem fest, was ihr habt, bis ich komme.

26 tDenn wer durchhält und den Sieg erringt, wer bis zuletzt nach meinem Willen lebt und handelt, dem werde ich Macht über die Völker der Erde geben.27 Mit eiserner Strenge wird er über sie herrschen und sie zerschlagen wie Tongefäße.28 tUnd wie mein Vater mir Macht und Herrschaft gab, will ich sie auch jedem geben, der im Glauben festbleibt. Als Zeichen der Macht schenke ich ihm den Morgenstern.

1 To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, he that walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks:2 I know thy works, and thy toil and patience, and that thou canst not bear evil men, and didst try them that call themselves apostles, and they are not, and didst find them false;3 and thou hast patience and didst bear for my name’s sake, and hast not grown weary.4 But I have this against thee, that thou didst leave thy first love.5 Remember therefore whence thou art fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I come to thee, and will move thy candlestick out of its place, except thou repent.6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.8 And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These things saith the first and the last, who was dead, and lived again:9 I know thy tribulation, and thy poverty (but thou art rich), and the blasphemy of them that say they are Jews, and they art not, but are a synagogue of Satan.10 Fear not the things which thou art about to suffer: behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.12 and to the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These things saith he that hath the sharp two-edged sword:13 I know where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s throne is; and thou holdest fast my name, and didst not deny my faith, even in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwelleth.14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there some that hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication.15 So hast thou also some that hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans in like manner.16 Repent therefore; or else I come to thee quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of my mouth.17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and upon the stone a new name written, which no one knoweth but he that receiveth it.18 And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like a flame of fire, and his feet are like unto burnished brass:19 I know thy works, and thy love and faith and ministry and patience, and that thy last works are more than the first.20 But I have this against thee, that thou sufferest the woman Jezebel, who calleth herself a prophetess; and she teacheth and seduceth my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.21 And I gave her time that she should repent; and she willeth not to repent of her fornication.22 Behold, I cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of her works.23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he that searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto each one of you according to your works.24 But to you I say, to the rest that are in Thyatira, as many as have not this teaching, who know not the deep things of Satan, as they are wont to say; I cast upon you none other burden.25 Nevertheless that which ye have, hold fast till I come.26 And he that overcometh, and he that keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give authority over the nations:27 and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to shivers; as I also have received of my Father:28 and I will give him the morning star.29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.
