二

1 エペソにある教会の指導者あてに、次のような手紙を送りなさい。
『各教会を巡り、右手で教会の指導者を支えておられる方が、こう言われます。
2 「わたしは、あなたの多くの良い行ないと、わたしのための労苦と忍耐とを、ずっと見てきました。　また、教会内の罪に目をつぶらず、使徒だと自称しながら、実はそうでない者のうそを注意深く調べて、見破った事実を知っています。　3 あなたはわたしのために、どんな時にも、じっと耐え、決してくじけませんでした。　4 しかし、一つだけ非難すべき点があります。　それは、あなたがわたしを、初めのころほど愛していないことです。　5 どうしてそうなったのか、胸に手を当てて考え、初めの愛に立ち返って、以前のように励みなさい。　さもないと、わたしは行って、あなたの燭台を、諸教会の中から取り除きます。
6 しかし、ほめるところもあります。　あなたが、わたしと同じように、ニコライ派の人々のみだらな行ないを、憎んでいることです。
7 聞く耳のある人は、聖霊様の諸教会へのお告げを、よく聞きなさい。　わたしは勝利を得る人に、神様のパラダイスにある、いのちの木の実を食べさせます。」』
8 スミルナにある教会の指導者に、次のような手紙を送りなさい。
『この手紙は、初めであり、終わりであり、死んでのち、復活された方からのものです。
9 「わたしは、あなたが、主のためにどんなにひどい苦しみと貧しさに耐えてきたかを、知っています。　〔しかし、実際は天の宝を得ているのです。〕　さらに、自分こそユダヤ人〔神様に選ばれた者〕だと主張する人々から、白い眼で見られ、非難されてきたことも知っています。　しかし、あの連中は悪魔の仲間であって、真のユダヤ人ではありません。　10 これから先、出会うことになる苦しみを、少しも恐れてはなりません。　悪魔は、信仰を試そうとして、まもなく、あなたがたのうちの何人かを、牢獄に投げ込むでしょう。　そして、あなたがたは十日間、苦しむことになります。　しかし、たとい死に直面するようなことになっても、最後まで、わたしに忠実でありなさい。　そうすれば、いのちの冠〔終わりのない栄光の未来〕をあげましょう。　11 聞く耳のある人は、聖霊様の諸教会へのお告げを、よく聞きなさい。勝利を得る人は、決して第二の死によって危害を受けません。」』
12 ペルガモにある教会の指導者に、次のような手紙を送りなさい。
『この手紙は、切れ味のいい両刃の剣をふるう方からのものです。
13 「わたしは、あなたを取り巻く環境をよく知っています。　そこには憎むべき悪魔の王座があり、悪魔礼拝が盛んです。　それでも、あなたはいつも、わたしに従順でした。　わたしの忠実な証人アンテパスが、悪魔の弟子の手にかかって殉教した時も、あなたは、わたしを捨てませんでした。
14 しかしなお、二、三の非難すべき点があります。　教会の中で、バラムの信奉者を、見過ごしにしているではありませんか。　バラムは昔バラクに入れ知恵し、イスラエルの民を性的な罪に巻き込み、偶像礼拝に走らせて、滅びに追いやろうとたくらみました。　15 あなたの教会にも、そのバラムに従う者が巣くっています。
16 心と態度を改めなさい。　さもないと、わたしはすぐにでも行って、口の剣で、彼らと戦うでしょう。
17 聞く耳のある人は、聖霊様の諸教会へのお告げを、よく聞きなさい。　勝利を得る人は、天から下る秘密のマナを食べることができます。　また、めいめいに白い石が与えられます。　その石には、本人以外はだれも知らない、新しい名前が刻まれているのです。」』
18 テアテラにある教会の指導者に、次のような手紙を送りなさい。
『この手紙は、燃える炎のような目と、真鍮のように輝く足を持つ、神の子からのものです。
19 「わたしは、あなたが貧しい人々に親切にし、物資を援助し、めんどうを見てやったことを知っています。　また、あなたの愛と信仰と忍耐とを知っています。　そして、これらの点で、たゆまず成長していることも、認めています。
20 しかしなお、非難すべき点があります。　あのイゼベルという女を放任しているではありませんか。　女預言者だと自称しているあの女は、性的な罪など大した罪ではないと、クリスチャンをそそのかしています。　しかもそう口にするだけでなく、実際にその罪を犯させ、また、偶像への供え物の肉を食べさせようとしているのです。　21 わたしは、その考えと態度を改める機会を与えましたが、あの女は拒みました。　22 さあ、今、わたしのことばに耳を傾けなさい。　この女を、激痛を伴う病気にします。　彼女の不道徳にならう者も全員、罪を悔い改めてわたしのもとへ戻らなければ、同じ目に会います。　23 次に、この女の子供たちをも、打ちのめして殺します。　こうしてすべての教会は、わたしが、人の心と思いの奥深くまで探ることを知るのです。　わたしは一人一人に、それぞれの行ないに応じて報います。
24 テアテラの教会の中で、この誤った教え〔この教えの支持者たちは、これを「深い真理」と呼んでいますが、実際には悪魔の落とし穴です〕に、まだ毒されていない人々については、これ以上、何も問いただすつもりはありません。　25 ただ、わたしが行くまで、いま手にしているものを、しっかり握りしめていなさい。
26 勝利を得る者、すなわち、最後までわたしを喜ばせてくれる者に、諸国民を支配する権威を与えます。　27 父なる神から支配権をいただいたわたしにならって、あなたは、鉄の杖で人々を治めるのです。　彼らは、砕けた陶器のように、粉みじんになるでしょう。　28 また、あなたに明けの明星を与えます。
29 聞く耳のある人は、聖霊様の諸教会へのお告げに、耳を傾けなさい。」』

Revelation 2

1 To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, he that walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks:2 I know thy works, and thy toil and patience, and that thou canst not bear evil men, and didst try them that call themselves apostles, and they are not, and didst find them false;3 and thou hast patience and didst bear for my name’s sake, and hast not grown weary.4 But I have this against thee, that thou didst leave thy first love.5 Remember therefore whence thou art fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I come to thee, and will move thy candlestick out of its place, except thou repent.6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.8 And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These things saith the first and the last, who was dead, and lived again:9 I know thy tribulation, and thy poverty (but thou art rich), and the blasphemy of them that say they are Jews, and they art not, but are a synagogue of Satan.10 Fear not the things which thou art about to suffer: behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.12 and to the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These things saith he that hath the sharp two-edged sword:13 I know where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s throne is; and thou holdest fast my name, and didst not deny my faith, even in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwelleth.14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there some that hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication.15 So hast thou also some that hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans in like manner.16 Repent therefore; or else I come to thee quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of my mouth.17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and upon the stone a new name written, which no one knoweth but he that receiveth it.18 And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like a flame of fire, and his feet are like unto burnished brass:19 I know thy works, and thy love and faith and ministry and patience, and that thy last works are more than the first.20 But I have this against thee, that thou sufferest the woman Jezebel, who calleth herself a prophetess; and she teacheth and seduceth my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.21 And I gave her time that she should repent; and she willeth not to repent of her fornication.22 Behold, I cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of her works.23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he that searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto each one of you according to your works.24 But to you I say, to the rest that are in Thyatira, as many as have not this teaching, who know not the deep things of Satan, as they are wont to say; I cast upon you none other burden.25 Nevertheless that which ye have, hold fast till I come.26 And he that overcometh, and he that keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give authority over the nations:27 and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to shivers; as I also have received of my Father:28 and I will give him the morning star.29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.
