Lettre à l'Eglise d'Ephèse

1 »Ecris à l'ange de l'Eglise d'Ephèse: 'Voici ce que dit celui qui tient les sept étoiles dans sa main droite, celui qui marche au milieu des sept chandeliers d'or:2 Je connais tes œuvres, ton travail et ta persévérance. Je sais que tu ne peux pas supporter les méchants. Tu as mis à l'épreuve ceux qui se prétendent apôtres sans l'être, et tu les as trouvés menteurs.3 Oui, tu as de la persévérance, tu as souffert à cause de mon nom et tu ne t'es pas lassé.4 Mais ce que j'ai contre toi, c'est que tu as abandonné ton premier amour.5 Souviens-toi donc d'où tu es tombé, repens-toi et pratique tes premières œuvres. Sinon, je viendrai [bientôt] à toi et j'enlèverai ton chandelier de sa place, à moins que tu ne changes d'attitudet.6 Cependant, tu as ceci pour toi: tu détestes les œuvres des Nicolaïtes, tout comme je les déteste, moi aussi.

7 Que celui qui a des oreilles écoute ce que l'Esprit dit aux Eglises: Au vainqueur je donnerai à manger du fruit de l'arbre de vie, qui est dans le paradis de Dieu.'

Lettre à l'Eglise de Smyrne

8 »Ecris à l'ange de l'Eglise de Smyrne: 'Voici ce que dit le premier et le dernier, celui qui était mort et qui est revenu à la vie:9 Je connais [tes œuvres,] ta détresse et ta pauvreté - et pourtant tu es riche - ainsi que les calomnies de ceux qui se disent juifs et ne le sont pas mais qui sont une synagogue de Satan.10 Ne redoute pas ce que tu vas souffrir. Voici, le diable va jeter quelques-uns d'entre vous en prison afin que vous soyez mis à l'épreuve, et vous aurez dix jours de détresse. Sois fidèle jusqu'à la mort et je te donnerai la couronne de vie.

11 Que celui qui a des oreilles écoute ce que l'Esprit dit aux Eglises: Le vainqueur n'aura pas à souffrir de la seconde mort.'

Lettre à l'Eglise de Pergame

12 »Ecris à l'ange de l'Eglise de Pergame: 'Voici ce que dit celui qui tient l'épée aiguë à deux tranchants:13 Je connais [tes œuvres et] l'endroit où tu es établi: là se trouve le trône de Satan. Tu es fermement attaché à mon nom et tu n'as pas renié la foi en moi, même durant les jours où Antipas, mon témoin fidèle, a été mis à mort chez vous, là où Satan est établi.14 Mais j'ai certaines choses contre toi: tu as là des gens attachés à la doctrine de Balaam, qui enseignait à Balak à tendre un piège aux Israélites pour qu'ils mangent des viandes sacrifiées aux idoles et se livrent à l'immoralité sexuelle.15 Ainsi, toi aussi, tu as des gens attachés de la même manière à la doctrine des Nicolaïtes.16 Repens-toi donc, sinon je viendrai bientôt à toi et je les combattrai avec l'épée de ma bouche.

17 Que celui qui a des oreilles écoute ce que l'Esprit dit aux Eglises: Au vainqueur je donnerai [à manger] de la mannet cachée, et je lui donnerai un caillou blanc. Sur ce caillou est écrit un nom nouveau que personne ne connaît, si ce n'est celui qui le reçoit.'

Lettre à l'Eglise de Thyatire

18 »Ecris à l'ange de l'Eglise de Thyatire: 'Voici ce que dit le Fils de Dieu, celui qui a les yeux comme une flamme de feu et dont les pieds sont semblables à du bronze ardent:19 Je connais tes œuvres, ton amour, ta foi, ton service et ta persévérance. Je sais que tes dernières œuvres sont plus nombreuses que les premières.20 Mais ce que j'ai contre toi, c'est que tu laisses faire Jézabel, cette femme qui se prétend prophétesse. Elle enseigne et égare mes serviteurs pour qu'ils se livrent à l'immoralité sexuelle et mangent des viandes sacrifiées aux idoles.21 Je lui ai donné du temps pour changer d'attitude, mais elle ne veut pas se détourner de son immoralité.22 Voici, je vais la jeter sur un lit et envoyer un grand tourment à ceux qui commettent l'adultère avec elle, s'ils ne se repentent pas de leurs œuvres.23 Je frapperai de mort ses enfants, et toutes les Eglises reconnaîtront que je suis celui qui examine les reins et les cœurs, et je traiterai chacun de vous conformément à ses œuvres.24 Quant à vous, les autres croyants de Thyatire, qui n'acceptez pas cet enseignement et qui n'avez pas connu les profondeurs de Satan - comme ils les appellent - je vous dis: Je ne mettrai pas sur vous d'autre fardeau.25 Seulement, ce que vous avez, tenez-le fermement jusqu'à ce que je vienne.26 Au vainqueur, à celui qui accomplit mes œuvres jusqu'à la fin, je donnerai autorité sur les nations.27 Il les dirigera avec un sceptre de fer, comme on brise les vases d'argilet, ainsi que moi-même j'en ai reçu le pouvoir de mon Père,28 et je lui donnerai l'étoile du matin.

29 Que celui qui a des oreilles écoute ce que l'Esprit dit aux Eglises.'

Revelation 2

1 To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, he that walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks:2 I know thy works, and thy toil and patience, and that thou canst not bear evil men, and didst try them that call themselves apostles, and they are not, and didst find them false;3 and thou hast patience and didst bear for my name’s sake, and hast not grown weary.4 But I have this against thee, that thou didst leave thy first love.5 Remember therefore whence thou art fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I come to thee, and will move thy candlestick out of its place, except thou repent.6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.8 And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These things saith the first and the last, who was dead, and lived again:9 I know thy tribulation, and thy poverty (but thou art rich), and the blasphemy of them that say they are Jews, and they art not, but are a synagogue of Satan.10 Fear not the things which thou art about to suffer: behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.12 and to the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These things saith he that hath the sharp two-edged sword:13 I know where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s throne is; and thou holdest fast my name, and didst not deny my faith, even in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwelleth.14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there some that hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication.15 So hast thou also some that hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans in like manner.16 Repent therefore; or else I come to thee quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of my mouth.17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and upon the stone a new name written, which no one knoweth but he that receiveth it.18 And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like a flame of fire, and his feet are like unto burnished brass:19 I know thy works, and thy love and faith and ministry and patience, and that thy last works are more than the first.20 But I have this against thee, that thou sufferest the woman Jezebel, who calleth herself a prophetess; and she teacheth and seduceth my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.21 And I gave her time that she should repent; and she willeth not to repent of her fornication.22 Behold, I cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of her works.23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he that searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto each one of you according to your works.24 But to you I say, to the rest that are in Thyatira, as many as have not this teaching, who know not the deep things of Satan, as they are wont to say; I cast upon you none other burden.25 Nevertheless that which ye have, hold fast till I come.26 And he that overcometh, and he that keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give authority over the nations:27 and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to shivers; as I also have received of my Father:28 and I will give him the morning star.29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.
