BREV TILL DE SJU FÖRSAMLINGARNA (kap. 2–3)

Till församlingen i Efesos

1 Skriv till ängeln för församlingen i Efesos:
Så säger han som håller de sju stjärnorna i sin högra hand, han som går bland de sju lampställen av guld. 2 Jag känner dina gärningar, din möda och din uthållighet och vet att du inte kan tåla onda människor. Du har prövat dem som kallar sig apostlar men inte är det, och du har funnit att de är lögnare. 3 Du är uthållig, du har tålt mycket för mitt namns skull och du har inte tröttnat. 4 Men det har jag emot dig, att du har övergett din första kärlek. 5 Tänk på varifrån du har fallit, och omvänd dig och gör samma gärningar som förr. Annars kommer jag till dig och flyttar bort ditt lampställ, om du inte omvänder dig. 6 Men den förtjänsten har du, att du avskyr nikolaiternas gärningar, som jag också avskyr.

7 Du som har öron, hör vad Anden säger till församlingarna! Åt den som segrar skall jag ge att äta av livets träd, som står i Guds paradis.

Till församlingen i Smyrna

8 Och skriv till ängeln för församlingen i Smyrna:
Så säger han, den förste och den siste, han som var död och har fått liv igen. 9 Jag känner ditt lidande och din fattigdom — men du är rik — och jag vet hur du smädas av dem som kallar sig judar men inte är det utan är en Satans synagoga. 10 Var inte rädd för vad du skall få utstå. Se, djävulen kommer att kasta några av er i fängelse för att ni skall sättas på prov, och ni skall få lida i tio dagar. Var trogen intill döden, så skall jag ge dig livets segerkrans.

11 Du som har öron, hör vad Anden säger till församlingarna! Den som segrar skall inte skadas av den andra döden.

Till församlingen i Pergamon

12 Och skriv till ängeln för församlingen i Pergamon:
Så säger han som har det skarpa, tveeggade svärdet. 13 Jag vet var du bor: där Satan har sin tron. Ändå håller du fast vid mitt namn och har inte förnekat din tro på mig, inte ens i de dagar när Antipas, mitt trogna vittne, dödades hos er där Satan bor. 14 Men något har jag emot dig: att du hos dig har några som håller sig till Bileams lära, han som lärde Balak att gillra en fälla för israeliterna, så att de åt offerkött och bedrev otukt. 15 Så har också du hos dig sådana som på samma sätt håller sig till nikolaiternas lära. 16 Vänd om! Annars kommer jag snart till dig och strider mot dem med min muns svärd.

17 Du som har öron, hör vad Anden säger till församlingarna! Åt den som segrar skall jag ge av det dolda mannat, och jag skall ge honom en vit sten, och på stenen skall det stå ett nytt namn, som ingen känner utom den som får det.

Till församlingen i Thyatira

18 Och skriv till ängeln för församlingen i Thyatira:
Så säger Guds son, han som har ögon som eldslågor, och hans fötter liknar gyllene brons. 19 Jag känner dina gärningar, din kärlek och din tro, ditt tjänande och din uthållighet och vet att dina senaste gärningar är fler än de första. 20 Men det har jag emot dig, att du låter kvinnan Isebel hållas, hon som kallar sig profet och lär och förleder mina tjänare att bedriva otukt och äta offerkött. 21 Jag gav henne tid att vända om, men hon vill inte vända om från sin otukt. 22 Se, jag skall lägga henne på sjukbädden, och dem som horar med henne skall jag låta drabbas av svåra lidanden om de inte vänder om från hennes gärningar. 23 Och hennes barn skall jag döda med pest. Och alla församlingarna skall förstå att jag är den som rannsakar njurar och hjärtan och som skall ge var och en av er vad hans gärningar är värda. 24 Men till er andra i Thyatira, alla som inte har denna lära och inte känner Satans djup, som det heter, till er säger jag: Jag lägger inte på er någon annan börda. 25 Men håll fast vid det ni har, tills jag kommer. 26 Den som segrar och ger akt på mina gärningar ända till slutet, honom skall jag ge makt över folken, 27 och han skall valla dem med en stav av järn, som man krossar lerkärl — 28 samma makt som jag har fått av min fader. Och jag skall ge honom morgonstjärnan. 29 Du som har öron, hör vad Anden säger till församlingarna!

REVELATION 2

The Letter to Ephesus

1 This is what you must write to the angel of the church in Ephesus:
I am the one who holds the seven stars in my right hand, and I walk among the seven gold lampstands. Listen to what I say.
2 I know everything you have done, including your hard work and how you have endured. I know you won't put up with anyone who is evil. When some people pretended to be apostles, you tested them and found out they were liars.

3 You have endured and gone through hard times because of me, yet you have not given up.
4 But I do have something against you! And it is this: You don't have as much love as you used to. 5 Think about where you have fallen from, and then turn back and do as you did at first. If you don't turn back, I will come and take away your lampstand.

6 But there is one thing you are doing right. You hate what the Nicolaitanst are doing, and so do I.

7  t If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. I will let everyone who wins the victory eat from the life-giving tree in God's wonderful garden.

The Letter to Smyrna

8  t This is what you must write to the angel of the church in Smyrna:
I am the first and the last. I died, but now I am alive! Listen to what I say.

9 I know how much you suffer and how poor you are, but you are rich. I also know the cruel things being said about you by people who claim to be God's people. But they are not really God's people. They are a group that belongs to Satan.

10 Don't worry about what you will suffer. The devil will throw some of you into jail, and you will be tested and made to suffer for ten days. But if you are faithful until you die, I will reward you with a glorious life.t

11  t If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. Whoever wins the victory will not be hurt by the second death.t

The Letter to Pergamum

12 This is what you must write to the angel of the church in Pergamum:
I am the one who has the sharp double-edged sword! Listen to what I say.

13 I know you live where Satan has his throne.t But you have kept true to my name. Right there where Satan lives, my faithful witness Antipast was taken from you and put to death. Even then you did not give up your faith in me.
14  t I do have a few things against you. Some of you are following the teaching of Balaam.t Long ago he told Balak to teach the people of Israel to eat food that had been offered to idols and to be immoral. 15 Now some of you are following the teaching of the Nicolaitans.t

16 Turn back! If you don't, I will come quickly and fight against these people. And my words will cut like a sword.

17  t If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. To everyone who wins the victory, I will give some of the hidden food.t I will also give each one a white stonet with a new namet written on it. No one will know that name except the one who is given the stone.

The Letter to Thyatira

18 This is what you must write to the angel of the church in Thyatira:
I am the Son of God! My eyes are like flames of fire, and my feet are like bronze. Listen to what I say.
19 I know everything about you, including your love, your faith, your service, and how you have endured. I know you are doing more now than you have ever done before. 20 t But I still have something against you because of that woman Jezebel.t She calls herself a prophet, and you let her teach and mislead my servants to do immoral things and to eat food offered to idols.

21 I gave her a chance to turn from her sins, but she did not want to stop doing these immoral things.
22 I am going to strike down Jezebel. Everyone who does these immoral things with her will also be punished, if they don't stop.

23 t I will even kill her followers.t Then all the churches will see that I know everyone's thoughts and feelings. I will treat each of you as you deserve.
24 Some of you in Thyatira don't follow Jezebel's teaching. You don't know anything about what her followers call the “deep secrets of Satan.” So I won't burden you down with any other commands.

25 But until I come, you must hold firmly to the teaching you have.
26  t I will give power over the nations to everyone who wins the victory and keeps on obeying me until the end.

27-28 I will give each of them the same power my Father has given me. They will rule the nations with an iron rod and smash those nations to pieces like clay pots. I will also give them the morning star.t
29 If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.
