Apocalypse 21

Septième vision: le nouveau ciel et la nouvelle terre

1 Puis je vis un ciel nouveau et une terre nouvelle , car le premier ciel et la première terre avaient disparu, et la mer n’existait plus.

2 Je vis la ville sainte, la nouvelle *Jérusalem, descendre du ciel, d’auprès de Dieu, belle comme une mariée qui s’est parée pour son époux.

3 Et j’entendis une forte voix, venant du trône, qui disait:

Voici la Tente de Dieu avec les hommes. Il habitera avec eux; ils seront ses peuples et lui, Dieu avec eux , sera leur Dieu.

4 Il essuiera toute la rme de leurs yeux. La mort ne sera plus et il n’y aura plus ni deuil, ni plainte, ni souffrance. Car ce qui était autrefois a définitivement disparu .

5 Alors celui qui siège sur le trône déclara:
—Voici: je renouvelle toutes choses.
Il ajouta:
—Ecris que ces paroles sont vraies et entièrement dignes de confiance.

6 Puis il me dit:
—C’en est fait! Je suis l’Alpha et l’Oméga, le commencement et le but. A celui qui a soif, je donnerai, moi, à boire gratuitement à la source d’où coule l’eau de la vie.

7 Tel sera l’héritage du vainqueur. Je serai son Dieu et il sera mon fils.

8 Quant aux lâches, aux infidèles, aux dépravés, meurtriers et débauchés, aux magiciens, aux idolâtres et à tous les menteurs, leur part sera l’étang ardent de feu et de soufre, c’est-à-dire la seconde mort.

LA NOUVELLE JERUSALEM, EPOUSE DE L’AGNEAU

9 Alors l’un des sept *anges qui tenaient les sept coupes pleines des sept derniers fléaux vint me parler:
—Viens, me dit-il, je te montrerai la Mariée, l’Epouse de l’Agneau.

10 Il m’emmena en esprit sur une grande et haute montagne, d’où il me fit voir la ville sainte, Jérusalem, qui descendait du ciel, d’auprès de Dieu.

11 Elle rayonnait de la gloire divine. Son éclat rappelait celui d’une pierre très précieuse, celui d’un jaspe d’une transparence cristalline.

12 Elle était entourée d’une grande et haute muraille, percée de douze portes gardées par douze *anges, et sur ces portes étaient gravés les noms des douze tribus d’*Israël.

13 Les portes étaient orientées trois vers l’est, trois vers le nord, trois vers le sud et trois vers l’ouest.

14 La muraille reposait sur douze fondements qui portaient les noms des douze *apôtres de l’Agneau.

15 Mon interlocuteur tenait, en guise de mesure, un roseau d’or pour mesurer la ville, ses portes et sa muraille.

16 La ville était bâtie en carré, sa longueur égalait sa largeur. L’*ange mesura donc la ville avec son roseau et trouva douze mille stades, sa longueur, sa largeur et sa hauteur étant d’égale dimension.

17 Il mesura aussi la muraille et trouva cent quarante-quatre coudées, d’après la mesure humaine employée par l’ange.

18 La muraille était construite en jaspe, la ville elle-même était d’or pur, transparent comme du cristal pur.

19 Les fondements de la muraille de la ville étaient ornés de toutes sortes de pierres précieuses, le premier de jaspe, le second de saphir, le troisième de chalcédoine, le quatrième d’émeraude,

20 le cinquième de sardoine, le sixième de cornaline, le septième de chrysolite, le huitième de béryl, le neuvième de topaze, le dixième de chrysoprase, le onzième de turquoise, le douzième d’améthyste.

21 Les douze portes étaient douze perles; chaque porte était faite d’une seule perle. L’avenue principale de la ville était d’or pur, transparent comme du cristal.

22 Je ne vis aucun temple dans la ville: son temple, c’est le Seigneur, le Dieu tout-puissant, ainsi que l’Agneau.

23 La ville n’a besoin ni du soleil, ni de la lune pour l’éclairer, car la gloire de Dieu l’illumine et l’Agneau lui tient lieu de lampe.

24 Les nations marcheront à sa lumière et les rois de la terre viendront lui apporter leur gloire.

25 Tout au long du jour, les portes de la ville resteront ouvertes, car il n’y aura plus de nuit.

26 On y apportera tout ce qui fait la gloire et l’honneur des nations.

27 Rien d’impur ne pourra y pénétrer. Nul homme qui se livre à des pratiques abominables et au mensonge n’y entrera. Seuls y auront accès ceux qui sont inscrits dans le livre de vie de l’Agneau.

Revelation 21

A New Heaven and a New Earth

1 Thent I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had ceased to exist,t and the sea existed no more.2 And I saw the holy city – the new Jerusalem – descending out of heaven from God, made ready like a bride adorned for her husband.3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Look! The residencet of God is among human beings.t Het will live among them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them.s

4 Het will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any more – or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the former things have ceased to exist.”t
5 And the one seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new!” Thent he said to me, “Write it down,t because these words are reliablet and true.”6 He also said to me, “It is done!t I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who is thirsty I will give watert free of charget from the spring of the water of life.7 The one who conquerst will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

8 But to the cowards, unbelievers, detestable persons, murderers, the sexually immoral, and those who practice magic spells,t idol worshipers,t and all those who lie, their placet will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur.t Thatt is the second death.”

The New Jerusalem Descends

9 Thent one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven final plagues came and spoke to me,t saying, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb!”10 Sot he took me away in the Spiritt to a huge, majestic mountaint and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.11 The city possessest the glory of God; its brilliance is like a precious jewel, like a stone of crystal-clear jasper.t12 It hast a massive, high wallt with twelve gates,t with twelve angels at the gates, and the names of the twelve tribes of the nation of Israelt are written on the gates.t13 There aret three gates on the east side, three gates on the north side, three gates on the south side and three gates on the west side.t

14 Thet wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 The angelt who spoke to me had a golden measuring rod with which to measure the city and its foundation stones and wall.16 Nowt the city is laid out as a square,t its length and width the same. Het measured the city with the measuring rodt at fourteen hundred milest (its length and width and height are equal).17 He also measured its wall, one hundred forty-four cubitst according to human measurement, which is also the angel’s.t18 The city’st wall is madet of jasper and the city is pure gold, like transparent glass.t19 The foundations of the city’s wall are decoratedt with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation is jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate,s the fourth emerald,20 the fifth onyx,s the sixth carnelian,s the seventh chrysolite,s the eighth beryl,s the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase,s the eleventh jacinth,s and the twelfth amethyst.

21 And the twelve gates are twelve pearls – each one of the gates is made from just one pearl! Thet main streett of the city is pure gold, like transparent glass.
22 Nowt I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God – the All-Powerfult – and the Lamb are its temple.23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God lights it up, and its lamp is the Lamb.24 The nationst will walk by its light and the kings of the earth will bring their grandeurt into it.25 Its gates will never be closed during the dayt (andt there will be no night there).t26 They will bring the grandeur and the wealtht of the nationst into it,

27 butt nothing ritually uncleant will ever enter into it, nor anyone who does what is detestablet or practices falsehood,t but only those whose namest are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
