ローマ人への手紙 1

一

1 キリスト・イエスの奴隷であり、伝道者として選ばれ、神様の良い知らせを伝えるために遣わされたパウロが、この手紙を送ります。　2 この良い知らせは、ずっと以前から、神様が預言者を通して、旧約聖書の中で約束しておられたもので、　3 神のひとり息子、主イエス・キリストに関するものです。　この方は、人の子として、ダビデ王の家系にお生まれになりました。　4 しかも、死んでのち復活することにより、神様のきよい性質を備えた、力ある神のひとり息子であることが証明されたのです。
5 このキリスト様を通して、今や、神様のすべての恵みが、それを受ける資格のない罪人の私たちに、あふれるばかり注がれています。　そして今、私たちは、神様が人類のためにしてくださったすばらしいことを、全世界の人々に知らせるために、キリスト様から遣わされているのです。　それは、すべての人がキリスト様を信じ、従うようになるためです。
6-7 ローマの愛する皆さん。　あなたがたも、キリスト様に深く愛されているのです。　また、イエス・キリストに招かれて、神ご自身のもの、つまり神様の聖なる民とされているのです。　どうか、私たちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、神様の豊かなあわれみと平安が、あなたがたに与えられますように。
8 何はさておき言っておきたいのは、どこへ行っても、あなたがたの評判を耳にするということです。　神様を信じるあなたがたの信仰は、世界中に知れ渡っているからです。　私は、この良い評判を聞くたびに、イエス・キリストによって、どんなに神様に感謝していることでしょう。　9 あなたがたのために私がどれほど祈っているかは、神様がご存じです。　私は、神様のひとり息子についての良い知らせを人々に伝えながら、全力投球で仕えている神様に、あなたがたに必要なものが与えられますようにと、昼も夜も祈っています。
10 また、神様が許してくださるなら、いつかあなたがたを訪ね、できれば安全な旅をしたいと、いつも祈っています。　11-12 どうしても行きたいと思うのは、信仰をいくらかでもお分かちして、あなたがたの教会が、主にあって強く成長するように役立ちたいからです。　それに、私も皆さんの助けが必要です。　私の信仰をお分かちするだけでなく、あなたがたの信仰によって、私も力づけてもらいたいのです。　こうして私たちは、お互いに励まし合えるでしょう。
13 愛する皆さん。　私がこれまでに何度も、あなたがたのところへ行こうとしたことを〔しかし、その計画は妨げられてきました〕ぜひ知っていただきたいのです。　他の国の諸教会でと同様に、あなたがたのところでも、すばらしい成果を得たいと思ったのです。　14 私はあなたがたにも、また、ほかのすべての人にも、文明人にも未開人にも、教育のある人にもない人にも、ばく大な借りがあります。　15 ですから、何とかして、ローマにいるあなたがたのところにも、神様の良い知らせをお伝えしたいと、心の底から願っているのです。
16 というのも、キリスト様についての、この良い知らせを、私は少しも恥じてはいないからです。　この知らせは、それを信じる人をだれでも天国に導く、神様の力ある手段です。　この知らせは最初、ユダヤ人だけに伝えられていました。　しかし今では、すべての人が、この同じ方法で神様のもとに招かれているのです。　17 この良い知らせは、私たちがキリスト様を信じておゆだねする時、神様は私たちを、天国に入るにふさわしい者、すなわち、神様の目から見て正しい者としてくださる、と教えています。　これは、初めから終わりまで、信仰によって達成されます。「正しい人は信仰によって生きる」と、旧約聖書に書いてあるとおりです。
18 しかし、真理を押しのける、罪深い邪悪なすべての人に、神様の怒りは天から下ります。　19 なぜなら、彼らは神様についての真理を、本能的に知っているからです。　神様が、この知識を、彼らの心にお与えになったのです。　20 世界が創造されてからこのかた、人々は、天地や、神様がお造りになったすべてのものを見て、神様の存在と、その偉大な永遠の力をはっきり知っていました。　ですから、彼らには弁解の余地がないのです。
21 そうです。　彼らは確かに神様を知っているのです。　けれども、そのことを認めず、神様を礼拝せず、毎日神様に守られていることを感謝しようともしません。　やがて彼らは、神様がどのようなお方か、また自分たちに何を求めておられるかについて、ばかげたことを考えるようになりました。　その結果、彼らの愚かな心はくもり、何が何だか、わからなくなったのです。　22 「神様なんか信じなくてもいい、自分は賢いのだ」と主張しながら、その実、全くの愚か者になってしまいました。　23 そして、栄光に輝き、永遠に生きておられる神様を礼拝する代わりに、木や石で、鳥や獣や蛇、あるいは、くだらない人間の偶像を作り、それを神としたのです。
24 そこで神様は、彼らがあらゆる性的な罪に深入りするに任せました。　そうです。　彼らは互いの肉体で、汚らわしい罪深い行為にふけったのです。　25 彼らは、神様についての真理を知っていながら、信じようとせず、わざわざ、偽りを信じる道を選びました。　そして、神様に造られた物には祈りながら、それらをお造りになった神様には従いませんでした。　この創造主である神様こそ、永遠にほめたたえられる方です。　アーメン。
26 そんなわけで、神様は彼らを放任し、したいほうだいの事をさせました。　そのため、女でさえ、定められた自然の計画に逆らい、同性愛にふけるようになり、　27 男も、女との正常な性的関係を捨てて、同性間で汚れた情欲を燃やし、恥ずべきことを行ないました。　その結果、当然の報いを受けているのです。
28 このように、彼らが神様を捨て、認めようともしなかったので、神様は、彼らに考え出せるかぎりの悪事をさせておかれました。　29 それで、彼らの生活は、あらゆる悪と罪に染まり、むさぼりや憎しみ、ねたみ、殺意、争い、偽り、苦々しい思い、陰口に満ちたものとなりました。　30 彼らは人の悪口を言い、神様を憎み、横柄で、高慢で、大ぼらを吹き、いつも何か新しい悪事を考え出し、親に反抗し続けました。　31 わざと物事を曲解し、平気で約束を破り、情け知らずの不親切な者となりました。　32 そのような罪を犯せば神様から死の刑罰を受けなければならないことを、よくよく承知の上で、その道を突き進み、しかも、自分ばかりか、他の人まで引きずり込んでいるのです。

Romans 1

1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,2 which he promised afore through his prophets in the holy scriptures,3 concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,4 who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead; even Jesus Christ our Lord,5 through whom we received grace and apostleship, unto obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name’s sake;6 among whom are ye also called to be Jesus Christ’s:7 To all that are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world.9 For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you, always in my prayers10 making request, if by any means now at length I may be prospered by the will of God to come unto you.11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;12 that is, that I with you may be comforted in you, each of us by the other’s faith, both yours and mine.13 And I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you (and was hindered hitherto), that I might have some fruit in you also, even as in the rest of the Gentiles.14 I am debtor both to Greeks and to Barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you also that are in Rome.16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.17 For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith unto faith: as it is written, But the righteous shall live by faith.18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness;19 because that which is known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested it unto them.20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse:21 because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened.22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.24 Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves:25 for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:27 and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due.28 And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity; whisperers,30 backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,31 without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unmerciful:32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that they that practise such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with them that practise them.
