Romanos 1

Salutación

1 Pablo, siervo de Jesucristo, llamado a ser apóstol, apartado para el evangelio de Dios,2 que él había prometido antes por sus profetas en las santas Escrituras:3 evangelio que se refiere a su Hijo, nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que era del linaje de David según la carne,

4 que fue declarado Hijo de Dios con poder, según el Espíritu de santidad, por su resurrección de entre los muertos.
5 Por medio de él recibimos la gracia y el apostolado para conducir a todas las naciones a la obediencia de la fe por amor de su nombre;6 entre las cuales estáis también vosotros, llamados a ser de Jesucristo.

7 A todos los que estáis en Roma, amados de Dios y llamados a ser santos: Gracia y paz a vosotros, de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesucristo.

Deseo de Pablo de visitar Roma

8 Primeramente doy gracias a mi Dios, mediante Jesucristo, por todos vosotros, porque vuestra fe se divulga por todo el mundo.9 Dios, a quien sirvo en mi espíritu anunciando el evangelio de su Hijo, me es testigo de que sin cesar hago mención de vosotros siempre en mis oraciones,10 rogando que de alguna manera, si es la voluntad de Dios, tenga al fin un próspero viaje para ir a vosotros,11 porque deseo veros, para comunicaros algún don espiritual, a fin de que seáis fortalecidos;

12 esto es, para ser mutuamente confortados por la fe que nos es común a vosotros y a mí.
13 Pero no quiero, hermanos, que ignoréis que muchas veces me he propuesto ir a vosotros para tener también entre vosotros algún fruto, como lo he tenido entre los demás gentiles, pero hasta ahora he sido estorbado.14 A griegos y a no griegos, a sabios y a no sabios soy deudor.

15 Así que, en cuanto a mí, pronto estoy a anunciaros el evangelio también a vosotros que estáis en Roma.

El poder del evangelio

16 No me avergüenzo del evangelio, porque es poder de Dios para salvación de todo aquel que cree, del judío primeramente y también del griego,

17 pues en el evangelio, la justicia de Dios se revela por fe y para fe, como está escrito: «Mas el justo por la fe vivirá».

La culpabilidad de la humanidad

18 La ira de Dios se revela desde el cielo contra toda impiedad e injusticia de los hombres que detienen con injusticia la verdad,19 porque lo que de Dios se conoce les es manifiesto, pues Dios se lo manifestó:20 Lo invisible de él, su eterno poder y su deidad, se hace claramente visible desde la creación del mundo y se puede discernir por medio de las cosas hechas. Por lo tanto, no tienen excusa,21 ya que, habiendo conocido a Dios, no lo glorificaron como a Dios, ni le dieron gracias. Al contrario, se envanecieron en sus razonamientos y su necio corazón fue entenebrecido.22 Pretendiendo ser sabios, se hicieron necios,

23 y cambiaron la gloria del Dios incorruptible por imágenes de hombres corruptibles, de aves, de cuadrúpedos y de reptiles.
24 Por lo cual, también los entregó Dios a la inmundicia, en los apetitos de sus corazones, de modo que deshonraron entre sí sus propios cuerpos,

25 ya que cambiaron la verdad de Dios por la mentira, honrando y dando culto a las criaturas antes que al Creador, el cual es bendito por los siglos. Amén.
26 Por eso Dios los entregó a pasiones vergonzosas, pues aun sus mujeres cambiaron las relaciones naturales por las que van contra la naturaleza.

27 Del mismo modo también los hombres, dejando la relación natural con la mujer, se encendieron en su lascivia unos con otros, cometiendo hechos vergonzosos hombres con hombres, y recibiendo en sí mismos la retribución debida a su extravío.
28 Como ellos no quisieron tener en cuenta a Dios, Dios los entregó a una mente depravada, para hacer cosas que no deben.29 Están atestados de toda injusticia, fornicación, perversidad, avaricia, maldad; llenos de envidia, homicidios, contiendas, engaños y perversidades.30 Son murmuradores, calumniadores, enemigos de Dios, injuriosos, soberbios, vanidosos, inventores de males, desobedientes a los padres,31 necios, desleales, sin afecto natural, implacables, sin misericordia.

32 Esos, aunque conocen el juicio de Dios, que los que practican tales cosas son dignos de muerte, no sólo las hacen, sino que también se complacen con los que las practican.

ROMANS 1

1 From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus.
God chose me to be an apostle, and he appointed me to preach the good news 2 that he promised long ago by what his prophets said in the holy Scriptures.

3-4 This good news is about his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ! As a human, he was from the family of David. But the Holy Spiritt proved that Jesus is the powerful Son of God, t because he was raised from death.
5 Jesus was kind to me and chose me to be an apostle, t so that people of all nations would obey and have faith.

6 You are some of those people chosen by Jesus Christ.

7 This letter is to all of you in Rome. God loves you and has chosen you to be his very own people.
I pray that God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!

A Prayer of Thanks

9 God has seen how I never stop praying for you, while I serve him with all my heart and tell the good news about his Son.
10 In all my prayers, I ask God to make it possible for me to visit you. 11 I want to see you and share with you the same blessings that God's Spirit has given me. Then you will grow stronger in your faith.

12 What I am saying is that we can encourage each other by the faith that is ours.
13  t My friends, I want you to know that I have often planned to come for a visit. But something has always kept me from doing it. I want to win followers to Christ in Rome, as I have done in many other places.

14-15 It doesn't matter if people are civilized and educated, or if they are uncivilized and uneducated. I must tell the good news to everyone. That's why I am eager to visit all of you in Rome.

The Power //of the Good News

17 t The good news tells how God accepts everyone who has faith, but only those who have faith.t It is just as the Scriptures say, “The people God accepts because of their faith will live.”t

Everyone Is Guilty

23 t They don't worship the glorious and eternal God. Instead, they worship idols that are made to look like humans who cannot live forever, and like birds, animals, and reptiles.
24 So God let these people go their own way. They did what they wanted to do, and their filthy thoughts made them do shameful things with their bodies.

25 They gave up the truth about God for a lie, and they worshiped God's creation instead of God, who will be praised forever. Amen.
26 God let them follow their own evil desires. Women no longer wanted to have sex in a natural way, and they did things with each other that were not natural.

27 Men behaved in the same way. They stopped wanting to have sex with women and had strong desires for sex with other men. They did shameful things with each other, and what has happened to them is punishment for their foolish deeds.
28  t Since these people refused even to think about God, he let their useless minds rule over them. That's why they do all sorts of indecent things. 29 They are evil, wicked, and greedy, as well as mean in every possible way. They want what others have, and they murder, argue, cheat, and are hard to get along with. They gossip,

30 say cruel things about others, and hate God. They are proud, conceited, and boastful, always thinking up new ways to do evil.
These people don't respect their parents. 31 They are stupid, unreliable, and don't have any love or pity for others. 32 They know God has said that anyone who acts this way deserves to die. But they keep on doing evil things, and they even encourage others to do them.
