Pablo saluda a los hermanos en Roma

1 Queridos hermanos y hermanas de la iglesia en Roma:
Yo soy servidor y apóstol de Jesucristo porque Dios me eligió para anunciar las buenas noticias que él tiene para nosotros.

2-4 Dios había prometido enviarnos a su Hijo. Así lo habían anunciado sus profetas en la Biblia .
Esas buenas noticias nos dicen que su hijo Jesucristo vino al mundo como descendiente del rey David. Jesucristo murió, pero Dios lo resucitó por el poder de su Espíritu, y con eso demostró que Jesucristo es el poderoso Hijo de Dios.

5 Jesús me demostró su amor y me eligió para que le sirva como apóstol, pues quiere que todo el mundo lo obedezca y crea en él.
6 Ustedes, que viven en Roma, son algunos de los que han creído en Jesucristo.

7 Dios los ama y los ha apartado para que sean parte de su pueblo. Le pido a Dios, nuestro Padre, y al Señor Jesucristo, que también ellos les demuestren su amor y les den su paz.

Agradecimiento

8 En primer lugar, doy gracias a mi Dios por cada uno de ustedes, en nombre de Jesucristo. En todas partes se habla bien de ustedes, y se sabe que confían en Dios y lo obedecen.
9 Yo sirvo a Dios anunciando las buenas noticias acerca de su Hijo, y lo hago de todo corazón. Dios es testigo de que siempre oro por ustedes,10 y de que siempre le pido que me permita ir por fin a visitarlos, si él así lo quiere.11 Tengo muchos deseos de ir a verlos y darles ayuda espiritual. Así su confianza en Dios será permanente,

12 y podremos ayudarnos unos a otros, gracias a la fuerza de esa confianza que tenemos en Dios.
13 Hermanos en Cristo, quiero que sepan que muchas veces he tratado de ir a Roma para verlos, pero nunca ha faltado algo que me lo impida. Me gustaría ir allá para anunciar esta buena noticia, como ya lo he hecho en otros lugares, para que muchos crean en Jesús.

14-15 Tengo que anunciar esta buena noticia a todo el mundo, no importa que sepan mucho o no sepan nada, ni que sean humildes o importantes. Por eso tengo tantos deseos de ir a Roma.

La buena noticia es poderosa

16 No me da vergüenza anunciar esta buena noticia. Gracias al poder de Dios, todos los que la escuchan y creen en Jesús son salvados ; no importa si son judíos o no lo son.

17 La buena noticia nos enseña que Dios acepta a los que creen en Jesús. Como dice la Biblia : «Aquellos a quienes Dios ha aceptado, y confían en él, vivirán para siempre.»

Todos somos culpables

18 Pero la gente ha negado, injustamente, la verdad acerca de cómo es Dios. Y el Dios altísimo está muy enojado por toda esa maldad e injusticia.

19 Esa gente sabe todo lo que se puede saber acerca de Dios, pues Dios mismo se lo ha mostrado.
20 Por medio de lo que Dios ha creado, todos podemos conocerlo, y también podemos ver su poder. Así que esa gente no tiene excusa,21 pues saben de Dios, pero no lo respetan ni le dan las gracias. No piensan más que en hacer lo malo y en puras tonterías.22 Creen que lo saben todo, pero en realidad no saben nada.

23 En vez de adorar al único y poderoso Dios, que vive para siempre, adoran a ídolos que ellos mismos se han hecho: ídolos con forma de seres humanos, mortales al fin y al cabo, o con forma de pájaros, de animales de cuatro patas y de serpientes.
24 Por eso Dios los ha dejado hacer lo que quieran, y sus malos pensamientos los han llevado a hacer con sus cuerpos cosas vergonzosas.

25 En vez de adorar al Dios verdadero, adoran a dioses falsos; adoran las cosas que Dios ha creado, en vez de adorar al Dios que las creó y que merece ser adorado por siempre. Amén .
26 Por esa razón, Dios ha dejado que esa gente haga todo lo malo que quiera. Por ejemplo, entre ellos hay mujeres que no quieren tener relaciones sexuales con los hombres, sino con otras mujeres.

27 Y también hay hombres que se comportan de la misma manera, pues no volvieron a tener relaciones sexuales con sus mujeres, sino que se dejaron dominar por sus deseos de tener relaciones con otros hombres. De este modo, hicieron cosas vergonzosas los unos con los otros, y ahora sufren en carne propia el castigo que se buscaron.
28 Como no han querido tener en cuenta a Dios, Dios los ha dejado hacer todo lo malo que su mente inútil los lleva a hacer.29 Son gente injusta, malvada y codiciosa. Son envidiosos, asesinos, peleadores, tramposos y chismosos.30 Hablan mal de los demás, odian a Dios, son insolentes y orgullosos, y se creen muy importantes. Siempre están inventando nuevas maneras de hacer el mal, y no obedecen a sus padres.31 No quieren entender la verdad, ni se puede confiar en ellos. No aman a nadie ni se compadecen de nadie.

32 Dios ya lo ha dicho, y ellos lo saben, que quienes hacen esto merecen la muerte. Y a pesar de eso, no sólo siguen haciéndolo, sino que felicitan a quienes también lo hacen.

ROMANS 1

1 From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus.
God chose me to be an apostle, and he appointed me to preach the good news 2 that he promised long ago by what his prophets said in the holy Scriptures.

3-4 This good news is about his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ! As a human, he was from the family of David. But the Holy Spiritt proved that Jesus is the powerful Son of God, t because he was raised from death.
5 Jesus was kind to me and chose me to be an apostle, t so that people of all nations would obey and have faith.

6 You are some of those people chosen by Jesus Christ.

7 This letter is to all of you in Rome. God loves you and has chosen you to be his very own people.
I pray that God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!

A Prayer of Thanks

9 God has seen how I never stop praying for you, while I serve him with all my heart and tell the good news about his Son.
10 In all my prayers, I ask God to make it possible for me to visit you. 11 I want to see you and share with you the same blessings that God's Spirit has given me. Then you will grow stronger in your faith.

12 What I am saying is that we can encourage each other by the faith that is ours.
13  t My friends, I want you to know that I have often planned to come for a visit. But something has always kept me from doing it. I want to win followers to Christ in Rome, as I have done in many other places.

14-15 It doesn't matter if people are civilized and educated, or if they are uncivilized and uneducated. I must tell the good news to everyone. That's why I am eager to visit all of you in Rome.

The Power //of the Good News

17 t The good news tells how God accepts everyone who has faith, but only those who have faith.t It is just as the Scriptures say, “The people God accepts because of their faith will live.”t

Everyone Is Guilty

23 t They don't worship the glorious and eternal God. Instead, they worship idols that are made to look like humans who cannot live forever, and like birds, animals, and reptiles.
24 So God let these people go their own way. They did what they wanted to do, and their filthy thoughts made them do shameful things with their bodies.

25 They gave up the truth about God for a lie, and they worshiped God's creation instead of God, who will be praised forever. Amen.
26 God let them follow their own evil desires. Women no longer wanted to have sex in a natural way, and they did things with each other that were not natural.

27 Men behaved in the same way. They stopped wanting to have sex with women and had strong desires for sex with other men. They did shameful things with each other, and what has happened to them is punishment for their foolish deeds.
28  t Since these people refused even to think about God, he let their useless minds rule over them. That's why they do all sorts of indecent things. 29 They are evil, wicked, and greedy, as well as mean in every possible way. They want what others have, and they murder, argue, cheat, and are hard to get along with. They gossip,

30 say cruel things about others, and hate God. They are proud, conceited, and boastful, always thinking up new ways to do evil.
These people don't respect their parents. 31 They are stupid, unreliable, and don't have any love or pity for others. 32 They know God has said that anyone who acts this way deserves to die. But they keep on doing evil things, and they even encourage others to do them.
