Romanos 1

Saludos de Pablo

1  Yo, Pablo, esclavo de Cristo Jesús y elegido por Dios para ser apóstol y enviado a predicar su Buena Noticia, escribo esta carta. 2 Dios prometió esa Buena Noticia hace tiempo por medio de sus profetas en las Sagradas Escrituras. 3 La Buena Noticia trata de su Hijo. En su vida terrenal, él fue descendiente del rey David, 4 y quedó demostrado que erat el Hijo de Dios cuando fue resucitado de los muertos mediante el poder del Espíritu Santo.t Él es Jesucristo nuestro Señor. 5 Por medio de Cristo, Dios nos ha dado a nosotros, como apóstoles, el privilegiot y la autoridad de anunciar por todas partes a los gentilest lo que Dios ha hecho por ellos, a fin de que crean en él y lo obedezcan, lo cual dará gloria a su nombre.

6 Ustedes están incluidos entre los gentiles que fueron llamados a pertenecer a Jesucristo.

7 Les escribo a todos ustedes, los amados de Dios que están en Roma y son llamados a ser su pueblo santo.
Que Dios nuestro Padre y el Señor Jesucristo les den gracia y paz.

La Buena Noticia de Dios

8 Ante todo les digo que, mediante Jesucristo, le doy gracias a mi Dios por todos ustedes, porque en todas partes del mundo se habla de la fe que tienen en él. 9 Dios sabe cuántas veces los recuerdo en mis oraciones. Día y noche hago mención de ustedes y sus necesidades delante de Dios, a quien sirvo con todo mi corazónt anunciando la Buena Noticia acerca de su Hijo.

10 Algo que siempre pido en oración es que, Dios mediante, se presente la oportunidad de ir por fin a verlos. 11 Pues tengo muchos deseos de visitarlos para llevarles algún don espiritual que los ayude a crecer firmes en el Señor. 12 Cuando nos encontremos, quiero alentarlos en la fe pero también me gustaría recibir aliento de la fe de ustedes.

13 Quiero que sepan, amados hermanos, que me propuse muchas veces ir a visitarlos pero, hasta el momento, me vi impedido. Mi deseo es trabajar entre ustedes y ver frutos espirituales tal como he visto entre otros gentiles. 14 Pues siento una gran obligación tanto con los habitantes del mundo civilizado como con los del resto del mundo,t con los instruidos y los incultos por igual. 15 Así que estoy ansioso por visitarlos también a ustedes, que están en Roma, para predicarles la Buena Noticia.

16 Pues no me avergüenzo de la Buena Noticia acerca de Cristo, porque es poder de Dios en acción para salvar a todos los que creen, a los judíos primero y también a los gentiles.t 17 Esa Buena Noticia nos revela cómo Dios nos hace justos ante sus ojos, lo cual se logra del principio al fin por medio de la fe. Como dicen las Escrituras: «Es por medio de la fe que el justo tiene vida»t.

La ira de Dios contra el pecado

18 Pero Dios muestra su ira desde el cielo contra todos los que son pecadores y perversos, que detienen la verdad con su perversión.t 19 Ellos conocen la verdad acerca de Dios, porque él se la ha hecho evidente. 20 Pues, desde la creación del mundo, todos han visto los cielos y la tierra. Por medio de todo lo que Dios hizo, ellos pueden ver a simple vista las cualidades invisibles de Dios: su poder eterno y su naturaleza divina. Así que no tienen ninguna excusa para no conocer a Dios.

21 Es cierto, ellos conocieron a Dios pero no quisieron adorarlo como Dios ni darle gracias. En cambio, comenzaron a inventar ideas necias sobre Dios. Como resultado, la mente les quedó en oscuridad y confusión. 22 Afirmaban ser sabios pero se convirtieron en completos necios. 23 Y, en lugar de adorar al Dios inmortal y glorioso, rindieron culto a ídolos que ellos mismos se hicieron con forma de simples mortales, de aves, de animales de cuatro patas y de reptiles.

24 Entonces Dios los abandonó para que hicieran todas las cosas vergonzosas que deseaban en su corazón. Como resultado, usaron sus cuerpos para hacerse cosas viles y degradantes entre sí. 25 Cambiaron la verdad acerca de Dios por una mentira. Y así rindieron culto y sirvieron a las cosas que Dios creó pero no al Creador mismo, ¡quien es digno de eterna alabanza! Amén. 26 Por esa razón, Dios los abandonó a sus pasiones vergonzosas. Aun las mujeres se rebelaron contra la forma natural de tener relaciones sexuales y, en cambio, dieron rienda suelta al sexo unas con otras. 27 Los hombres, por su parte, en lugar de tener relaciones sexuales normales, con la mujer, ardieron en pasiones unos con otros. Los hombres hicieron cosas vergonzosas con otros hombres y, como consecuencia de ese pecado, sufrieron dentro de sí el castigo que merecían.

28 Por pensar que era una tontería reconocer a Dios, él los abandonó a sus tontos razonamientos y dejó que hicieran cosas que jamás deberían hacerse. 29 Se llenaron de toda clase de perversiones, pecados, avaricia, odio, envidia, homicidios, peleas, engaños, conductas maliciosas y chismes. 30 Son traidores, insolentes, arrogantes, fanfarrones y gente que odia a Dios. Inventan nuevas formas de pecar y desobedecen a sus padres. 31 No quieren entrar en razón, no cumplen lo que prometen, son crueles y no tienen compasión. 32 Saben bien que la justicia de Dios exige que los que hacen esas cosas merecen morir; pero ellos igual las hacen. Peor aún, incitan a otros a que también las hagan.

ROMANS 1

1 From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus.
God chose me to be an apostle, and he appointed me to preach the good news 2 that he promised long ago by what his prophets said in the holy Scriptures.

3-4 This good news is about his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ! As a human, he was from the family of David. But the Holy Spiritt proved that Jesus is the powerful Son of God, t because he was raised from death.
5 Jesus was kind to me and chose me to be an apostle, t so that people of all nations would obey and have faith.

6 You are some of those people chosen by Jesus Christ.

7 This letter is to all of you in Rome. God loves you and has chosen you to be his very own people.
I pray that God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!

A Prayer of Thanks

9 God has seen how I never stop praying for you, while I serve him with all my heart and tell the good news about his Son.
10 In all my prayers, I ask God to make it possible for me to visit you. 11 I want to see you and share with you the same blessings that God's Spirit has given me. Then you will grow stronger in your faith.

12 What I am saying is that we can encourage each other by the faith that is ours.
13  t My friends, I want you to know that I have often planned to come for a visit. But something has always kept me from doing it. I want to win followers to Christ in Rome, as I have done in many other places.

14-15 It doesn't matter if people are civilized and educated, or if they are uncivilized and uneducated. I must tell the good news to everyone. That's why I am eager to visit all of you in Rome.

The Power //of the Good News

17 t The good news tells how God accepts everyone who has faith, but only those who have faith.t It is just as the Scriptures say, “The people God accepts because of their faith will live.”t

Everyone Is Guilty

23 t They don't worship the glorious and eternal God. Instead, they worship idols that are made to look like humans who cannot live forever, and like birds, animals, and reptiles.
24 So God let these people go their own way. They did what they wanted to do, and their filthy thoughts made them do shameful things with their bodies.

25 They gave up the truth about God for a lie, and they worshiped God's creation instead of God, who will be praised forever. Amen.
26 God let them follow their own evil desires. Women no longer wanted to have sex in a natural way, and they did things with each other that were not natural.

27 Men behaved in the same way. They stopped wanting to have sex with women and had strong desires for sex with other men. They did shameful things with each other, and what has happened to them is punishment for their foolish deeds.
28  t Since these people refused even to think about God, he let their useless minds rule over them. That's why they do all sorts of indecent things. 29 They are evil, wicked, and greedy, as well as mean in every possible way. They want what others have, and they murder, argue, cheat, and are hard to get along with. They gossip,

30 say cruel things about others, and hate God. They are proud, conceited, and boastful, always thinking up new ways to do evil.
These people don't respect their parents. 31 They are stupid, unreliable, and don't have any love or pity for others. 32 They know God has said that anyone who acts this way deserves to die. But they keep on doing evil things, and they even encourage others to do them.
