Romeine 1

1 Ek, Paulus, skryf hierdie brief vir julle. Ek is ’n tdienaar van Christus Jesus. Christus het my gekies om ’n tapostel te wees en Hy het vir my die werk gegee om die goeie boodskap van God te bring. 2 God het lank gelede vir die tprofete gesê hulle moet in die Ou Testament skryf dat Hy vir die mense die goeie boodskap belowe, 3 die goeie boodskap oor sy Seun. Die Seun het mens geword, en Hy was van die tnageslag van Dawid. 4 Die Seun het gesterf, maar God het Hom weer laat lewe. Daarom het die Heilige Gees gesê Christus is die Seun van God wat alles kan doen. Ja, Hy is Jesus Christus ons Here. 5 Christus was baie goed vir my en Hy het my gekies en aangestel om ’n apostel te wees. Ek moet vir al die theidene van Hom vertel, sodat hulle in Hom kan glo en gehoorsaam kan wees aan Hom. Dan sal almal weet wie Christus is.

6 Julle glo ook in Jesus Christus. Hy het ook vir julle gekies om aan Hom te behoort.

7 Ek skryf hierdie brief vir julle almal wat in die stad Rome is. God is lief vir julle, Hy het julle gekies om aan Hom te behoort.
Ek bid dat God ons Vader en die Here Jesus Christus tgenadig sal wees vir julle en dat Hy vir julle vrede sal gee.

Paulus wil graag die gelowiges in Rome besoek

13 Vriende, dit is belangrik dat julle moet weet dat ek baie maal besluit het om na julle toe te kom, maar elke maal het iets gebeur, en dan kon ek nie kom nie. Ek wil na julle toe kom, want ek wil graag hê dat daar by júlle ook mense moet wees wat in Christus glo, soos dit ook by ander theidene gebeur het toe ek daar gewerk het.
14 Ek moet al die mense dien: die Grieke en die mense wat nie Grieke is nie, die mense wat twysheid het en die mense wat nie wysheid het nie.

15 Dit is hoekom ek ook graag by julle in die stad Rome die goeie boodskap wil bring.
16 Ek is nie skaam om die goeie boodskap te bring nie. Die goeie boodskap is God se krag, dit red almal wat glo, eers die Jode, en dan ook die mense wat nie Jode is nie.

17 Die goeie boodskap wys vir almal dat God doen wat reg is. Dit wys dat Hy mense tvryspreek omdat hulle glo, en nét omdat hulle glo. Dit is soos in die Ou Testament geskryf is:
tWanneer God mense vryspreek
omdat hulle glo,
dan sal hulle lewe.

God straf die mense omdat hulle sonde doen

23 God is Koning, Hy kan nooit sterf nie, maar hulle dien Hom nie. Hulle kies om tafgode te dien, tbeelde wat lyk soos mense, mense wat sterf, of beelde wat lyk soos voëls of diere of slange.
24 Daarom los God hulle sodat hulle die slegte dinge kan doen wat hulle graag wil doen, dinge wat wys dat hulle nie mekaar se liggame respekteer nie.

25 Hulle glo nie die waarheid van God nie, hulle kies om hulle eie leuens te glo. God het alles gemaak, maar hulle aanbid en dien die dinge wat Hy gemaak het, hulle aanbid nie vir God nie, God vir wie almal altyd moet prys. Amen.
26 Daarom los God hulle om die tonsedelike dinge te doen wat hulle graag wil doen. Hulle vroue het seks met ander vroue, maar dit is iets wat mense nie mag doen nie.

27 Die mans doen ook verkeerd. Mans het gewoonlik seks met vroue, maar party mans doen dit nie. Hulle wil baie graag seks hê met ander mans, en dan doen hulle dinge met mekaar waaroor mense skaam moet wees. Dit is verkeerd, en daarom straf God hulle, Hy los hulle sodat hulle kan aanhou om hierdie slegte dinge te doen.
28 Hulle wil nie vir God ken en Hom dien nie. Daarom los God hulle sodat hulle slegte dinge kan dink en dinge kan doen wat mense nie moet doen nie. 29 Hulle doen baie verskillende verkeerde dinge. Hulle is sleg, hulle wil alles hê wat hulle sien en hulle doen graag slegte dinge. Hulle is jaloers, hulle maak ander mense dood, hulle stry met mekaar, hulle tbedrieg mekaar en hulle hou daarvan om slegte dinge te doen. Hulle skinder, 30 hulle sê slegte dinge van ander mense. Hulle haat God, hulle is hoogmoedig, hulle dink hulle is baie goed en hulle hou daarvan om te spog. Hulle dink altyd aan nuwe slegte dinge om te doen. Hulle luister nie vir hulle ouers nie. 31 Hulle doen dom dinge, ’n mens kan hulle nie tvertrou nie, hulle is nie lief vir ander mense nie, hulle is vir niemand jammer nie. 32 Hulle weet dat God se wette sê Hy sal mense straf as hulle daardie verkeerde dinge doen, Hy sal hulle laat sterf. Maar hulle hou aan om die verkeerde dinge te doen en hulle sê ook dit is goed wanneer ander mense daardie dinge doen.

Romans 1

1 From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus and an apostle chosen and called by God to preach his Good News.
2 The Good News was promised long ago by God through his prophets, as written in the Holy Scriptures. 3 It is about his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ: as to his humanity, he was born a descendant of David; 4 as to his divine holiness, he was shown with great power to be the Son of God by being raised from death. 5 Through him God gave me the privilege of being an apostle for the sake of Christ, in order to lead people of all nations to believe and obey.

6 This also includes you who are in Rome, whom God has called to belong to Jesus Christ.

7 And so I write to all of you in Rome whom God loves and has called to be his own people:
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

12 What I mean is that both you and I will be helped at the same time, you by my faith and I by yours.
13 You must remember, my brothers and sisters, that many times I have planned to visit you, but something has always kept me from doing so. I want to win converts among you also, as I have among other Gentiles.t 14 For I have an obligation to all peoples, to the civilized and to the savage, to the educated and to the ignorant.

15 So then, I am eager to preach the Good News to you also who live in Rome.

The Power of the Gospel

17 For the gospel reveals how God puts people right with himself: it is through faith from beginning to end. As the scripture says, “The person who is put right with God through faith shall live.”tt

The Guilt of the Human Race

23 instead of worshipping the immortal God, they worship images made to look like mortal human beings or birds or animals or reptiles.t
24 And so God has given those people over to do the filthy things their hearts desire, and they do shameful things with each other.

25 They exchange the truth about God for a lie; they worship and serve what God has created instead of the Creator himself, who is to be praised for ever! Amen.
26 Because they do this, God has given them over to shameful passions. Even the women pervert the natural use of their sex by unnatural acts.

27 In the same way the men give up natural sexual relations with women and burn with passion for each other. Men do shameful things with each other, and as a result they bring upon themselves the punishment they deserve for their wrongdoing.
28 Because those people refuse to keep in mind the true knowledge about God, he has given them over to corrupted minds, so that they do the things that they should not do. 29 They are filled with all kinds of wickedness, evil, greed, and vice; they are full of jealousy, murder, fighting, deceit, and malice. They gossip 30 and speak evil of one another; they are hateful to God, insolent,t proud, and boastful; they think of more ways to do evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no conscience; they do not keep their promises, and they show no kindness or pity for others. 32 They know that God's law says that people who live in this way deserve death. Yet, not only do they continue to do these very things, but they even approve of others who do them.
