1 พี่น้องทั้งหลาย ด้วยเหตุนี้โดยเห็นแก่ความเมตตากรุณาของพระเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าจึงวิงวอนท่านทั้งหลายให้ถวายตัวของท่านแด่พระองค์ เพื่อเป็นเครื่องบูชาที่มีชีวิต อันบริสุทธิ์ และเป็นที่พอพระทัยพระเจ้า ซึ่งเป็นการปรนนิบัติอันสมควรของท่านทั้งหลาย2 อย่าทำตามอย่างชาวโลกนี้ แต่จงรับการเปลี่ยนแปลงจิตใจเสียใหม่ เพื่อท่านจะได้ทราบพระประสงค์ของพระเจ้าว่าอะไรดี อะไรเป็นที่ชอบพระทัย และอะไรดียอดเยี่ยม3 ข้าพเจ้าขอกล่าวแก่ท่านทั้งหลายทุกคน โดยพระคุณซึ่งทรงประทานแก่ข้าพเจ้าแล้วว่า อย่าคิดถือตัวเกินที่ตนควรจะคิดนั้น แต่จงคิดให้ถ่อมสุขุมสมกับขนาดความเชื่อที่พระเจ้าได้ทรงโปรดประทานแก่มนุษย์ทุกคน4 เพราะว่าในร่างกายอันเดียวนั้นเรามีอวัยวะหลายอย่าง และอวัยวะนั้นๆมิได้มีหน้าที่เหมือนกันฉันใด5 พวกเราผู้เป็นหลายคนยังเป็นกายอันเดียวในพระคริสต์ และเป็นอวัยวะแก่กันและกันฉันนั้น6 และเราทุกคนมีของประทานที่ต่างกันตามพระคุณที่ได้ทรงประทานให้แก่เรา คือถ้าเป็นการพยากรณ์ ก็จงพยากรณ์ตามกำลังของความเชื่อ7 ถ้าเป็นการปรนนิบัติก็จงปรนนิบัติ ถ้าเป็นการสั่งสอนก็จงสั่งสอน8 ถ้าเป็นการเตือนสติก็จงเตือนสติ ถ้าเป็นการบริจาคก็จงให้โดยเต็มใจ ผู้ที่ครอบครองก็จงครอบครองด้วยเอาใจใส่ ผู้ที่แสดงความเมตตาก็จงแสดงด้วยใจยินดี9 จงให้ความรักปราศจากมารยา จงเกลียดชังสิ่งที่ชั่ว จงยึดมั่นในสิ่งที่ดี10 จงรักกันฉันพี่น้อง ส่วนการที่ให้เกียรติแก่กันและกันนั้น จงถือว่าผู้อื่นดีกว่าตัว11 อย่าเกียจคร้านในการงาน จงมีจิตใจกระตือรือร้น จงปรนนิบัติองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า12 จงชื่นชมยินดีในความหวัง จงอดทนต่อความยากลำบาก จงขะมักเขม้นอธิษฐาน13 จงช่วยวิสุทธิชนเมื่อเขาขัดสน จงมีน้ำใจอัธยาศัยไมตรี14 จงอวยพรแก่คนที่ข่มเหงท่าน จงอวยพร อย่าแช่งด่าเลย15 จงชื่นชมยินดีกับผู้ที่มีความชื่นชมยินดี จงร้องไห้กับผู้ที่ร้องไห้16 จงเป็นน้ำหนึ่งใจเดียวกัน อย่าใฝ่สูง แต่จงถ่อมใจลงมาหาคนที่ต่ำต้อย อย่าถือว่าตัวฉลาด17 อย่าทำชั่วตอบแทนชั่วแก่ผู้หนึ่งผู้ใดเลย `แต่จงมุ่งกระทำสิ่งที่ซื่อสัตย์ในสายตาของคนทั้งปวง'18 ถ้าเป็นได้คือเรื่องที่ขึ้นอยู่กับท่าน จงอยู่อย่างสงบสุขกับทุกคน19 ท่านผู้เป็นที่รักของข้าพเจ้า อย่าทำการแก้แค้น แต่จงมอบการนั้นไว้แล้วแต่พระเจ้าจะทรงลงพระอาชญา เพราะมีคำเขียนไว้แล้วว่า `องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสว่า "การแก้แค้นเป็นของเรา เราเองจะตอบสนอง"20 เหตุฉะนั้น ถ้าศัตรูของท่านหิว จงให้อาหารเขารับประทาน ถ้าเขากระหาย จงให้น้ำเขาดื่ม เพราะว่าการทำอย่างนั้นเป็นการสุมถ่านที่ลุกโพลงไว้บนศีรษะของเขา'21 อย่าให้ความชั่วชนะท่านได้ แต่จงชนะความชั่วด้วยความดี
Romans 12
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.2 And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.3 For I say, through the grace that was given me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think as to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to each man a measure of faith.4 For even as we have many members in one body, and all the members have not the same office:5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and severally members one of another.6 And having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of our faith;7 or ministry, let us give ourselves to our ministry; or he that teacheth, to his teaching;8 or he that exhorteth, to his exhorting: he that giveth, let him do it with liberality; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness.9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.10 In love of the brethren be tenderly affectioned one to another; in honor preferring one another;11 in diligence not slothful; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;12 rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing stedfastly in prayer;13 communicating to the necessities of the saints; given to hospitality.14 Bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not.15 Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep.16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Set not your mind on high things, but condescend to things that are lowly. Be not wise in your own conceits.17 Render to no man evil for evil. Take thought for things honorable in the sight of all men.18 If it be possible, as much as in you lieth, be at peace with all men.19 Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place unto the wrath of God: for it is written, Vengeance belongeth unto me; I will recompense, saith the Lord.20 But if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him to drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
