Romeine 15

1 Dié van ons wie se geloof sterk is, het 'n plig teenoor ander Christene wie se geloof nog nie so sterk is nie. Ons moet hulle aanvaar en hulle bystaan. Geloof gaan tog nie net oor ons nie.2 Ons kan nie net daardie dinge doen wat ons gelukkig maak sonder om te vra hoe ander gelowiges daaroor voel nie. Daarom moet ons alles in ons vermoë doen om te sorg dat ander gelowiges ook gelukkig is. Dit is ons plig om hulle geloof sterk te maak en op te bou.3 Christus het presies dit kom doen toe Hy op aarde was. Hy het nie na sy eie belange omgesien nie, maar na dié van ander. Dit is soos die Bybel sê:
"Al die beledigings wat die mense na u kant toe gegooi het, het Ek gedra. Dit het alles op My afgekom."
4 Alles wat in die Bybel opgeteken is, is neergeskryf om ons te leer. Die Bybel versterk ons geloof en moedig ons aan sodat ons elke dag kan uitsien na die terugkoms van die Here.
5 Mag God, wat ons almal se geloof sterk maak en ons krag gee, julle help om regtig goed met mekaar oor die weg te kom. Dit is presies wat Christus Jesus wil hê.6 Mag julle almal saam soos 'n groot koor in 'n harmonie van stemme God se Naam grootmaak. Aan Hom, die Vader van ons Here Jesus Christus, kom al die lof toe.
7 Julle moet mekaar asseblief aanvaar. Onthou: Christus het julle almal met oop arms aanvaar en op hierdie manier groot eer aan God gebring.8 Christus het aarde toe gekom om die Jode te dien en om te wys dat God sy woord hou. So het Hy die beloftes wat God aan hulle voorouers gemaak het, waar laat word.9 Maar Christus het gelukkig nie al die ander volke vergeet nie. Hy het hulle so jammer gekry dat Hy ook aan hulle 'n plek in God se nuwe koor gegee het. Daarom maak hulle nou ook sy Naam groot. Die Bybel vertel ook vir ons hiervan:
"Saam met mense uit ander volke sal ek u Naam grootmaak. Ek sal u Naam loof deur 'n psalm tot u eer te sing."
10 En ook:
"Wees bly, almal van julle wat aan ander volke behoort. Wees bly saam met almal in Israel."
11 En:
"Mense van alle volke: Prys die Here! Almal op aarde: Loof die Here!"
12 Of soos Jesaja sê:
"'n Baie belangrike persoon sal uit ons voorvader Isai se nageslag kom. Hy sal oor die hele aarde regeer. Almal sal hulle hoop en vertroue in Hom stel."
13 Ek bid dat God in wie julle al julle hoop stel, elke deeltjie van julle geloofslewe sal vol maak met blydskap en vreugde. Dan sal julle, deur die groot krag van die Heilige Gees in julle lewens, altyd oorvloedige hoop hê. Dan sal julle onwrikbaar vashou aan die Here, kom wat wil.
14  My broers en susters, ek weet van al julle goeie eienskappe. Julle is toegewyde mense. Julle het ook baie kennis oor God. Boonop help julle mekaar om te leef soos God dit wil hê.15 Daarom moet julle tog nie dink dat my brief, wat hier en daar nogal skerp is, as kritiek teen julle bedoel is nie. Glad nie. Ek sê maar net reguit alles wat God deur sy goedheid van my verwag om vir julle te sê.16 Hy het my aangestel as Christus Jesus se dienaar om onder mense te werk wat nie aan Israel behoort nie. Dit is my taak om soos 'n priester die goeie nuus van God aan hulle te bring. Hulle moet soos 'n offer voor God neergesit word, 'n offer wat God baie bly maak omdat die Heilige Gees hulle lewens nuutgemaak het.
17 Ek is baie trots op alles wat Christus Jesus tot dusver deur my werk vir God bereik het.18 Natuurlik sal ek dit nooit waag om oor my eie prestasies te praat nie. Nee, ek kan slegs praat oor wat Christus deur my gedoen het. Hy het elke woord en daad van my in sy diens geneem. Oral het mense wat nie aan Israel behoort nie, begin om in God te glo.19 Groot tekens en wonders het plaasgevind waar ek gepreek het. Dit is omdat die groot krag van die Gees by my is. Daarom kon ek die goeie nuus oor Christus van Jerusalem af tot in die noordweste van Griekeland, daar in Illirikum, uitdra.
20 Ek het vir my een doel voor oë gestel: ek moes in plekke gaan preek waar mense nog glad nie van Christus gehoor het nie. Dit is nie my taak om die evangelie te gaan verkondig waar mense al klaar die evangelie bekendgemaak het nie.21 My leuse word in die volgende Bybelteks saamgevat:
"Daardie mense wat nog nie van die Here gehoor het nie - hulle sal Hom sien! Hulle wat nog glad nie van Hom gehoor het nie - hulle sal verstaan waaroor dit alles gaan!"
22  As gevolg van al my sendingwerk kon ek tot nou toe nog nie daar by julle uitkom nie.23 My werk in hierdie streke is egter nou afgehandel. Daarom kan ek my jare lange droom om Rome toe te gaan uiteindelik waar maak.24 Ek gaan binnekort Spanje toe. Op pad soontoe kom ek dan 'n rukkie by julle oorbly. Daarna kan julle my op die pad na Spanje toe weghelp.
25 Voordat ek na julle toe kom, moet ek net eers in Jerusalem 'n draai gaan maak. Ek is op pad soontoe met 'n groot geldelike bydrae vir die gelowiges wat daar bly.26 Hierdie geld is deur Christene in die provinsies van Masedonië en Agaje vir die arm gelowiges in Jerusalem ingesamel.27 Hulle het hierdie liefdesdiens met groot geesdrif onderneem. Eintlik is dit ook hulle plig om die gelowiges in Jerusalem te help. Hulle het immers groot geestelike geskenke van daar af ontvang. Die goeie nuus oor Jesus Christus het mos van Jerusalem af na die hele wêreld toe uitgekring. Daarom is dit ook net reg dat die Christene van Masedonië en Agaje hulle geld met die arm gelowiges in Jerusalem deel.
28 Sodra ek hierdie wonderlike geldelike bydrae van die gelowiges uit Masedonië en Agaje veilig in Jerusalem besorg het, gaan ek Spanje toe. Op pad soontoe kom bly ek dan by julle daar in Rome oor.29 Ek weet dat my plan om julle te kom besoek Christus se volle goedkeuring en sy seën wegdra. Daarom wag daar 'n groot fees op ons almal.
30 My liewe broers en susters, ek wil tog iets belangriks vir julle vra: bid asseblief vir my! Ek vra dit in die Naam van ons Here Jesus Christus. En ek vra dit omdat die Heilige Gees ons almal met liefdesbande aan mekaar vasgebind het.31 Julle moet baie ernstig vir God vra om my te beskerm teen al die ongelowiges daar in Judea. Bid ook dat die Christene in Jerusalem hierdie geldelike bydrae wat ek na hulle toe vat, sal aanvaar.32 Daarna, as God wil, kom ek na julle toe. Ek sien sommer baie daarna uit. Dit sal my hart bly maak om julle te sien en om 'n rukkie daar by julle te kom uitrus.
33 Ons wonderlike God wat vrede gee, is by julle almal. Amen.

Romans 15

Exhortation for the Strong to Help the Weak

1 But we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not just please ourselves.t2 Let each of us please his neighbor for his good to build him up.3 For even Christ did not please himself, but just as it is written, “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”s4 For everything that was written in former times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.5 Now may the God of endurance and comfort give you unity with one anothert in accordance with Christ Jesus,

6 so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Exhortation to Mutual Acceptance

7 Receive one another, then, just as Christ also received you, to God’s glory.8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcisedt on behalf of God’s truth to confirm the promises made to the fathers,t9 and thus the Gentiles glorify God for his mercy.t As it is written, “Because of this I will confess you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praises to your name.”s10 And again it says: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.”s11 And again, “Praise the Lord all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him.”s12 And again Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse will come, and the one who rises to rule over the Gentiles, in him will the Gentiles hope.”s

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in him,t so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Paul’s Motivation for Writing the Letter

14 But I myself am fully convinced about you, my brothers and sisters,t that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to instruct one another.15 But I have written more boldly to you on some points so as to remind you, because of the grace given to me by God

16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. I servet the gospel of Godt like a priest, so that the Gentiles may become an acceptable offering,t sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
17 So I boastst in Christ Jesus about the things that pertain to God.18 For I will not dare to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in order to bring about the obediencet of the Gentiles, by word and deed,19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem even as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.20 And in this way I desire to preach where Christ has not been named, so as not to build on another person’s foundation,

21 but as it is written: “Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.”s

Paul’s Intention of Visiting the Romans

22 This is the reason I was often hindered from coming to you.23 But now there is nothing more to keep met in these regions, and I have for many years desiredt to come to you

24 when I go to Spain. For I hope to visit you when I pass through and that you will help met on my journey there, after I have enjoyed your company for a while.
25 But now I go to Jerusalem to minister to the saints.26 For Macedonia and Achaia are pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.27 For they were pleased to do this, and indeed they are indebted to the Jerusalem saints.t For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are obligated also to minister to them in material things.28 Therefore after I have completed this and have safely delivered this bounty to them,t I will set out for Spain by way of you,

29 and I know that when I come to you I will come in the fullness of Christ’s blessing.
30 Now I urge you, brothers and sisters,t through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to join fervently with me in prayer to God on my behalf.31 Prayt that I may be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea and that my ministry in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,32 so that by God’s will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company.

33 Now may the God of peace be with all of you. Amen.ss
