Romani 15

1 Anche se siamo convinti che non faccia differenza per il Signore fare o meno certe cose, non possiamo continuare a farle soltanto per il nostro piacere.
Dobbiamo, invece, tener presente i dubbi e i timori degli altri, di quelli che sono più deboli nella fede e che considerano sbagliate certe cose.2 Non dobbiamo cercare il nostro piacere, ma quello degli altri, in modo di fare il loro bene e di aiutarli a progredire nella fede.3 Anche Cristo non ha cercato ciò che piaceva a lui. Anzi, come disse il salmista: «le bestemmie di quanti ti insultano le sento su di me ».4 Queste cose, che furono scritte nei libri dei profeti tanto tempo fa, ci insegnano la pazienza e c’incoraggiano a tenere viva la nostra speranza.5 Possa il Signore, il quale dona pazienza, costanza e coraggio, aiutarvi a vivere in completa armonia fra voi, come vuole Gesù Cristo.6 Allora, tutti insieme, ad una sola voce, potremo lodare e glorificare Dio, Padre del nostro Signore, Gesù Cristo.7 Perciò, accoglietevi a vicenda con amore, proprio come Cristo ha accolto voi; fatelo per la gloria di Dio.8 Ricordatevi che Gesù Cristo venne per aiutare gli Ebrei e per dimostrare che Dio mantiene le sue promesse fatte ai loro antenati.9 Ricordatevi pure che Gesù venne perché anche i non ebrei potessero essere salvati e potessero glorificare Dio, per la sua misericordia. A questo si riferiva il salmista, quando scrisse: « Perciò ti loderò fra le nazioni e canterò con gioia il tuo nome ».10 E in un altro punto dice ancora: « Siate felici, voi che non siete ebrei, rallegratevi insieme ad Israele, suo popolo ».11 E ancora: « Lodate il Signore, da tutte le genti. Glorificatelo, popoli tutti ».12 E il profeta Isaia disse: « Dalla stirpe di Iesse verrà colui che sarà re degli stranieri, in lui soltanto spereranno i non ebrei ».13 Per questo io prego per voi, stranieri, perché il Signore, che dà speranza, vi riempia della gioia e della pace, che vengono dalla fede e, per mezzo della potenza dello Spirito Santo, accresca la vostra speranza.14 Fratelli miei, sono fermamente convinto che voi avete buone disposizioni e conoscete tanto bene queste cose da potervi consigliare a vicenda.15-16 Tuttavia, in alcuni punti della mia lettera ho usato parole forti, come per risvegliare la vostra memoria. L’ho fatto perché, per grazia di Dio, io sono ambasciatore speciale di Gesù Cristo fra voi che non siete ebrei, il mio incarico infatti è quello di portarvi il Vangelo e offrirvi a Dio, come un sacrificio profumato, perché siete stati purificati e resi accettabili a Dio, per mezzo dello Spirito Santo.17 Perciò, ho il diritto di essere un po’ orgoglioso di tutto quello che Gesù Cristo ha fatto per mezzo mio.18 Non mi permetterei mai di giudicare come il Signore abbia usato gli altri, posso dire solo una cosa che conosco bene: per quanto mi riguarda, Cristo si è servito di me per chiamare a sé quelli che non sono ebrei. Per conquistarvi, il Signore si è servito del mio messaggio, della vita onesta che ho vissuto sotto i vostri occhi,19 e dei miracoli fatti per mezzo mio, segni della potenza dello Spirito Santo. In questo modo ho portato dappertutto il Vangelo di Cristo, da Gerusalemme e dintorni fino all’Illiria.20 Ma la mia aspirazione era quella di andare a predicare ancora più lontano, dove non avevano mai sentito parlare di Gesù Cristo, anziché in paesi dove altri avevano già buttato le basi del cristianesimo.21 E così ho fatto ciò che dicono le Scritture nel libro d’Isaia: « Quelli che non hanno mai sentito parlare di Cristo prima, lo vedranno e capiranno ».22 È proprio per questa ragione che, più di una volta, ho continuato a rimandare la mia visita da voi.23 Ma ora, finalmente, ho finito il mio lavoro in questa zona; dopo tanti anni d’attesa, sono pronto a venire da voi!24 Siccome ho intenzione di andare in Spagna, durante il viaggio, mi fermerò a Roma da voi; e, dopo che avremo avuto il piacere di stare insieme per un po’, spero che voi stessi mi aiuterete a proseguire il mio viaggio.

Aiutare i fratelli bisognosi.

25 Prima, però, devo andare a Gerusalemme a consegnare un dono destinato ai credenti di quella città.26 Perché, vedete, i cristiani della Macedonia e dell’Acaia, hanno raccolto delle offerte per aiutare i poveri della comunità di Gerusalemme.27 Sono stati davvero contenti di farlo, perché si sentono molto in debito verso i fratelli di Gerusalemme. Perché? Perché il Vangelo di Cristo è giunto a questi non ebrei proprio dalla chiesa di Gerusalemme, ed ora sentono che il minimo che possono fare per contraccambiare è di mandare qualche aiuto materiale.28 Non appena avrò consegnato il denaro e portato a termine così questa missione, passerò da voi, durante il mio viaggio verso la Spagna.29 Sono certo che, quando verrò, il Signore mi darà grandi benedizioni per voi.30 Fratelli, volete aiutarmi nella preghiera? Per amore del Signore Gesù Cristo e per quell’amore che avete per me, ché viene dallo Spirito Santo, pregate molto con me, per il mio lavoro.31 Pregate che io possa sfuggire agli increduli della Giudea, nemici del cristianesimo, e che i cristiani di Gerusalemme accettino di buon grado il denaro che porto loro.32 Dopo di ciò, se Dio vorrà, verrò da voi pieno di gioia per riposarmi un po’ in vostra compagnia.33 Il nostro Dio, che dona la pace, sia con tutti voi. Amen.

Romans 15

1 Now we that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.2 Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, unto edifying.3 For Christ also pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me.4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.5 Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus:6 that with one accord ye may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.7 Wherefore receive ye one another, even as Christ also received you, to the glory of God.8 For I say that Christ hath been made a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, that he might confirm the promises given unto the fathers,9 and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, Therefore will I give praise unto thee among the Gentiles, And sing unto thy name.

10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.

11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; And let all the peoples praise him.

12 And again, Isaiah saith, There shall be the root of Jesse, And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles; On him shall the Gentiles hope.

13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.15 But I write the more boldly unto you in some measure, as putting you again in remembrance, because of the grace that was given me of God,16 that I should be a minister of Christ Jesus unto the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.17 I have therefore my glorifying in Christ Jesus in things pertaining to God.18 For I will not dare to speak of any things save those which Christ wrought through me, for the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Holy Spirit; so that from Jerusalem, and round about even unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ;20 yea, making it my aim so to preach the gospel, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build upon another man’s foundation;21 but, as it is written, They shall see, to whom no tidings of him came, And they who have not heard shall understand.

22 Wherefore also I was hindered these many times from coming to you:23 but now, having no more any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come unto you,24 whensoever I go unto Spain (for I hope to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first in some measure I shall have been satisfied with your company)--25 but now, I say, I go unto Jerusalem, ministering unto the saints.26 For it hath been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints that are at Jerusalem.27 Yea, it hath been their good pleasure; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they owe it to them also to minister unto them in carnal things.28 When therefore I have accomplished this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will go on by you unto Spain.29 And I know that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of Christ.30 Now I beseech you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;31 that I may be delivered from them that are disobedient in Judaea, and that my ministration which I have for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints;32 that I may come unto you in joy through the will of God, and together with you find rest.33 Now the God of peace be with you all.
