Plaire à son prochain, non à soi-même
1 tSi nous sommes forts, nous devons porter les faiblesses de ceux qui ne sont pas forts, au lieu de faire ce qui nous plaît. 2 tQue chacun de nous fasse ce qui plaît à son prochain, en vue de ce qui est bon et constructif. 3 tLe Christ, en effet, n’a pas fait ce qui lui plaisait ; mais, ainsi qu’il est écrit,les insultes de ceux qui t’insultent sont retombées sur moi. 4 tCar tout ce qui a été écrit autrefois a été écrit pour notre instruction, afin que, par la persévérance et par l’encouragement des Ecritures, nous ayons l’espérance. 5 tQue le Dieu de la persévérance et de l’encouragement vous donne d’être bien d’accord entre vous, selon Jésus-Christ,
6 tpour que, d’un commun accord, d’une seule voix, vous glorifiiez le Dieu et Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ !Le Christ, serviteur de tous
7 tAussi accueillez-vous les uns les autres, comme le Christ lui-même vous a accueillis, pour la gloire de Dieu. 8 tCar je dis que le Christ est devenu serviteur des circoncis pour la vérité de Dieu, en confirmant les promesses faites aux pères,
9 ttandis que les non-Juifs glorifient Dieu pour sa compassion, ainsi qu’il est écrit :
C’est pourquoi je te reconnaîtrai parmi les nations
et je chanterai ton nom.
10 tIl dit encore :
Nations, soyez en fête avec son peuple !
11 tEt encore :
Louez le Seigneur, vous toutes, nations,
que tous les peuples le louent !
12 tEsaïe dit encore :
Il paraîtra, le rejeton de Jessé,
celui qui se lèvera pour commander aux nations ;
les nations espéreront en lui.
13 tQue le Dieu de l’espérance vous remplisse de toute joie et de toute paix dans la foi, pour que vous abondiez en espérance par la puissance de l’Esprit saint !Le service de Paul auprès des non-Juifs
14 tPour ce qui vous concerne, mes frères, je suis moi-même persuadé que vous êtes pleins de bonté, remplis de toute la connaissance et capables de vous avertir les uns les autres. 15 tCependant, à certains égards, je vous ai écrit avec une certaine audace, comme pour réveiller vos souvenirs, à cause de la grâce que Dieu m’a accordée 16 td’être au service de Jésus-Christ pour les non-Juifs ; je m’acquitte du service sacré de la bonne nouvelle de Dieu, afin que les non-Juifs soient une offrande agréée, consacrée par l’Esprit saint. 17 tJ’ai donc ma fierté en Jésus-Christ pour ce qui est du service de Dieu. 18 tCar je n’oserais rien mentionner que le Christ n’ait accompli par moi pour amener les non-Juifs à l’obéissance : en parole et en œuvre, 19 tpar la puissance de signes et de prodiges, par la puissance de l’Esprit de Dieu. Ainsi, depuis Jérusalem et en rayonnant jusqu’en Illyrie, j’ai annoncé partout la bonne nouvelle du Christ. 20 tJ’ai mis un point d’honneur à annoncer la bonne nouvelle là où le Christ n’avait pas été nommé, pour ne pas construire sur les fondations d’autrui ;
21 tmais, ainsi qu’il est écrit,
ceux à qui il n’avait pas été annoncé verront,
et ceux qui n’en avaient pas entendu parler comprendront.Projets de Paul
22 tC’est ce qui m’a souvent empêché de venir vous voir. 23 tMais maintenant, je n’ai plus de champ d’action dans ces contrées, et depuis de nombreuses années je souhaite vivement venir vous voir,
24 tquand j’irai en Espagne ; j’espère vous voir en passant et recevoir de vous ce dont j’aurai besoin pour le voyage, non sans m’être d’abord rassasié, au moins en partie, de votre compagnie.
25 tMais maintenant je vais à Jérusalem, pour le service des saints. 26 tCar la Macédoine et l’Achaïe ont bien voulu faire une collecte de solidarité en faveur de ceux qui sont pauvres parmi les saints de Jérusalem. 27 tElles l’ont bien voulu, et elles le leur doivent ; car si les non-Juifs ont eu part à leurs biens spirituels, ils doivent aussi se mettre à leur service en ce qui concerne les biens matériels. 28 tLorsque j’en aurai terminé et que je leur aurai remis officiellement le produit de la collecte, je partirai pour l’Espagne en passant par chez vous.
29 tJe sais qu’en venant vous voir, c’est avec une pleine bénédiction du Christ que je viendrai.
30 tCependant je vous encourage, mes frères, par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ et par l’amour de l’Esprit, à combattre avec moi en adressant à Dieu des prières en ma faveur, 31 tpour que je sois délivré des réfractaires de Judée et que mon service en faveur de Jérusalem soit bien accueilli par les saints ;
32 tainsi je viendrai vous voir avec joie, par la volonté de Dieu, et je jouirai auprès de vous de quelque repos.
33 tQue le Dieu de la paix soit avec vous tous !Amen !
Romans 15
1 Now we that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.2 Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, unto edifying.3 For Christ also pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me.4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.5 Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus:6 that with one accord ye may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.7 Wherefore receive ye one another, even as Christ also received you, to the glory of God.8 For I say that Christ hath been made a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, that he might confirm the promises given unto the fathers,9 and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, Therefore will I give praise unto thee among the Gentiles, And sing unto thy name.
10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.
11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; And let all the peoples praise him.
12 And again, Isaiah saith, There shall be the root of Jesse, And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles; On him shall the Gentiles hope.
13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.15 But I write the more boldly unto you in some measure, as putting you again in remembrance, because of the grace that was given me of God,16 that I should be a minister of Christ Jesus unto the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.17 I have therefore my glorifying in Christ Jesus in things pertaining to God.18 For I will not dare to speak of any things save those which Christ wrought through me, for the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Holy Spirit; so that from Jerusalem, and round about even unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ;20 yea, making it my aim so to preach the gospel, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build upon another man’s foundation;21 but, as it is written, They shall see, to whom no tidings of him came, And they who have not heard shall understand.
22 Wherefore also I was hindered these many times from coming to you:23 but now, having no more any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come unto you,24 whensoever I go unto Spain (for I hope to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first in some measure I shall have been satisfied with your company)--25 but now, I say, I go unto Jerusalem, ministering unto the saints.26 For it hath been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints that are at Jerusalem.27 Yea, it hath been their good pleasure; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they owe it to them also to minister unto them in carnal things.28 When therefore I have accomplished this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will go on by you unto Spain.29 And I know that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of Christ.30 Now I beseech you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;31 that I may be delivered from them that are disobedient in Judaea, and that my ministration which I have for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints;32 that I may come unto you in joy through the will of God, and together with you find rest.33 Now the God of peace be with you all.
