EPISTOLE DI S. PAOLO AI~ROMANI 15

1 Or noi che siam forti, dobbiam sopportare le debolezze de' deboli e non compiacere a noi stessi. 2 Ciascuno di noi compiaccia al prossimo nel bene, a scopo di edificazione. 3 Poiché anche Cristo non compiacque a se stesso; ma com'è scritto: Gli oltraggi di quelli che ti oltraggiano son caduti sopra di me. 4 Perché tutto quello che fu scritto per l'addietro, fu scritto per nostro ammaestramento, affinché mediante la pazienza e mediante la consolazione delle Scritture noi riteniamo la speranza. 5 Or l'Iddio della pazienza e della consolazione vi dia d'aver fra voi un medesimo sentimento secondo Cristo Gesù, 6 affinché d'un solo animo e d'una stessa bocca glorifichiate Iddio, il Padre del nostro Signor Gesù Cristo. 7 Perciò accoglietevi gli uni gli altri, siccome anche Cristo ha accolto noi per la gloria di Dio; 8 poiché io dico che Cristo è stato fatto ministro de' circoncisi, a dimostrazione della veracità di Dio, per confermare le promesse fatte ai padri; 9 mentre i Gentili hanno da glorificare Iddio per la sua misericordia, secondo che è scritto: Per questo ti celebrerò fra i Gentili e salmeggerò al tuo nome. 10 Ed è detto ancora: Rallegratevi, o Gentili, col suo popolo. 11 E altrove: Gentili, lodate tutti il Signore, e tutti i popoli lo celebrino. 12 E di nuovo Isaia dice: Vi sarà la radice di Iesse, e Colui che sorgerà a governare i Gentili; in lui spereranno i Gentili. 13 Or l'Iddio della speranza vi riempia d'ogni allegrezza e d'ogni pace nel vostro credere, onde abbondiate nella speranza, mediante la potenza dello Spirito Santo. 14 Ora, fratelli miei, sono io pure persuaso, a riguardo vostro, che anche voi siete ripieni di bontà, ricolmi d'ogni conoscenza, capaci anche d'ammonirvi a vicenda. 15 Ma vi ho scritto alquanto arditamente, come per ricordarvi quel che già sapete, a motivo della grazia che mi è stata fatta da Dio, 16 d'esser ministro di Cristo Gesù per i Gentili, esercitando il sacro servigio del Vangelo di Dio, affinché l'offerta de' Gentili sia accettevole, essendo santificata dallo Spirito Santo. 17 Io ho dunque di che gloriarmi in Cristo Gesù, per quel che concerne le cose di Dio; 18 perché io non ardirei dir cosa che Cristo non abbia operata per mio mezzo, in vista dell'ubbidienza de' Gentili, in parola e in opera, 19 con potenza di segni e di miracoli, con potenza dello Spirito Santo. Così, da Gerusalemme e dai luoghi intorno fino all'Illiria, ho predicato dovunque l'Evangelo di Cristo, 20 avendo l'ambizione di predicare l'Evangelo là dove Cristo non fosse già stato nominato, per non edificare sul fondamento altrui; 21 come è scritto: Coloro ai quali nulla era stato annunziato di lui, lo vedranno; e coloro che non ne avevano udito parlare, intenderanno. 22 Per questa ragione appunto sono stato le tante volte impedito di venire a voi; 23 ma ora, non avendo più campo da lavorare in queste contrade, e avendo già da molti anni gran desiderio di recarmi da voi, 24 quando andrò in Ispagna, spero, passando, di vedervi e d'esser da voi aiutato nel mio viaggio a quella volta, dopo che mi sarò in parte saziato di voi. 25 Ma per ora vado a Gerusalemme a portarvi una sovvenzione per i santi; 26 perché la Macedonia e l'Acaia si son compiaciute di raccogliere una contribuzione a pro dei poveri fra i santi che sono in Gerusalemme. 27 Si sono compiaciute, dico; ed è anche un debito ch'esse hanno verso di loro; perché se i Gentili sono stati fatti partecipi dei loro beni spirituali, sono anche in obbligo di sovvenir loro con i beni materiali. 28 Quando dunque avrò compiuto questo servizio e consegnato questo frutto, andrò in Ispagna passando da voi; 29 e so che, recandomi da voi, verrò con la pienezza delle benedizioni di Cristo. 30 Ora, fratelli, io v'esorto per il Signor nostro Gesù Cristo e per la carità dello Spirito, a combatter meco nelle vostre preghiere a Dio per me, 31 affinché io sia liberato dai disubbidienti di Giudea, e la sovvenzione che porto a Gerusalemme sia accettevole ai santi, 32 in modo che, se piace a Dio, io possa recarmi da voi con allegrezza e possa con voi ricrearmi. 33 Or l'Iddio della pace sia con tutti voi. Amen.

ROMANS 15

Please Others and Not Yourself

1 If our faith is strong, we should be patient with the Lord's followers whose faith is weak. We should try to please them instead of ourselves. 2 We should think of their good and try to help them by doing what pleases them. 3 t Even Christ did not try to please himself. But as the Scriptures say, “The people who insulted you also insulted me.” 4 t And the Scriptures were written to teach and encourage us by giving us hope. 5 God is the one who makes us patient and cheerful. I pray that he will help you live at peace with each other, as you follow Christ.

6 Then all of you together will praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Good News Is for Jews //and Gentiles

9 t so that the Gentiles would praise God for being kind to them. It is just as the Scriptures say,
“I will tell the nations
about you,
and I will sing praises
to your name.”

10  t The Scriptures also say to the Gentiles, “Come and celebrate with God's people.”

11  t Again the Scriptures say,
“Praise the Lord,
all you Gentiles.
All you nations, come
and worship him.”

12  t Isaiah says,
“Someone from David's family
will come to power.
He will rule the nations,
and they will put their hope
in him.”

13 I pray that God, who gives hope, will bless you with complete happiness and peace because of your faith. And may the power of the Holy Spirit fill you with hope.

Paul's Work as a Missionary

16 He chose me to be a servant of Christ Jesus for the Gentiles and to do the work of a priest in the service of his good news. God did this so that the Holy Spirit could make the Gentiles into a holy offering, pleasing to him.
17 Because of Christ Jesus, I can take pride in my service for God. 18 In fact, all I will talk about is how Christ let me speak and work, so that the Gentiles would obey him. 19 Indeed, I will tell how Christ worked miracles and wonders by the power of the Holy Spirit. I have preached the good news about him all the way from Jerusalem to Illyricum. 20 But I have always tried to preach where people have never heard about Christ. I am like a builder who doesn't build on someone else's foundation.

21 t It is just as the Scriptures say,
“All who haven't been told
about him
will see him,
and those who haven't heard
about him
will understand.”

Paul's Plan To Visit Rome

24 So I plan to stop off on my way to Spain. Then after a short, but refreshing, visit with you, I hope you will quickly send me on.
25-26  t I am now on my way to Jerusalem to deliver the money that the Lord's followers in Macedonia and Achaia collected for God's needy people. 27 t This is something they really wanted to do. But sharing their money with the Jews was also like paying back a debt, because the Jews had already shared their spiritual blessings with the Gentiles. 28 After I have safely delivered this money, I will visit you and then go on to Spain.

29 And when I do arrive in Rome, I know it will be with the full blessings of Christ.
30 My friends, by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the love that comes from the Holy Spirit, I beg you to pray sincerely with me and for me. 31 Pray that God will protect me from the unbelievers in Judea, and that his people in Jerusalem will be pleased with what I am doing. 32 Ask God to let me come to you and have a pleasant and refreshing visit. 33 I pray that God, who gives peace, will be with all of you. Amen.
