1 Qual è dunque il vantaggio del Giudeo? O qual è la utilità della circoncisione? 2 Grande per ogni maniera; prima di tutto, perché a loro furono affidati gli oracoli di Dio. 3 Poiché che vuol dire se alcuni sono stati increduli? Annullerà la loro incredulità la fedeltà di Dio? 4 Così non sia; anzi, sia Dio riconosciuto verace, ma ogni uomo bugiardo, siccome è scritto: Affinché tu sia riconosciuto giusto nelle tue parole, e resti vincitore quando sei giudicato. 5 Ma se la nostra ingiustizia fa risaltare la giustizia di Dio, che diremo noi? Iddio è egli ingiusto quando dà corso alla sua ira? (Io parlo umanamente). 6 Così non sia; perché, altrimenti, come giudicherà egli il mondo? 7 Ma se per la mia menzogna la verità di Dio è abbondata a sua gloria, perché son io ancora giudicato come peccatore? 8 E perché (secondo la calunnia che ci è lanciata e la massima che taluni ci attribuiscono), perché non ‘facciamo il male affinché ne venga il bene?’ La condanna di quei tali è giusta. 9 Che dunque? Abbiam noi qualche superiorità? Affatto; perché abbiamo dianzi provato che tutti, Giudei e Greci, sono sotto il peccato, 10 siccome è scritto: Non v'è alcun giusto, neppur uno. 11 Non v'è alcuno che abbia intendimento, non v'è alcuno che ricerchi Dio. 12 Tutti si sono sviati, tutti quanti son divenuti inutili. Non v'è alcuno che pratichi la bontà, no, neppur uno. 13 La loro gola è un sepolcro aperto; con le loro lingue hanno usato frode; v'è un veleno di aspidi sotto le loro labbra. 14 La loro bocca è piena di maledizione e d'amarezza. 15 I loro piedi son veloci a spargere il sangue. 16 Sulle lor vie è rovina e calamità, 17 e non hanno conosciuto la via della pace. 18 Non c'è timor di Dio dinanzi agli occhi loro. 19 Or noi sappiamo che tutto quel che la legge dice, lo dice a quelli che son sotto la legge, affinché ogni bocca sia turata, e tutto il mondo sia sottoposto al giudizio di Dio; 20 poiché per le opere della legge nessuno sarà giustificato al suo cospetto; giacché mediante la legge è data la conoscenza del peccato. 21 Ora, però, indipendentemente dalla legge, è stata manifestata una giustizia di Dio, attestata dalla legge e dai profeti: 22 vale a dire la giustizia di Dio mediante la fede in Gesù Cristo, per tutti i credenti; poiché non v'è distinzione; 23 difatti, tutti hanno peccato e son privi della gloria di Dio, 24 e son giustificati gratuitamente per la sua grazia, mediante la redenzione che è in Cristo Gesù, 25 il quale Iddio ha prestabilito come propiziazione mediante la fede nel sangue d'esso, per dimostrare la sua giustizia, avendo Egli usato tolleranza verso i peccati commessi in passato, al tempo della sua divina pazienza; 26 per dimostrare, dico, la sua giustizia nel tempo presente; ond'Egli sia giusto e giustificante colui che ha fede in Gesù. 27 Dov'è dunque il vanto? Esso è escluso. Per quale legge? Delle opere? No, ma per la legge della fede; 28 poiché noi riteniamo che l'uomo è giustificato mediante la fede, senza le opere della legge. 29 Iddio è Egli forse soltanto l'Iddio de' Giudei? Non è Egli anche l'Iddio de' Gentili? Certo lo è anche de' Gentili, 30 poiché v'è un Dio solo, il quale giustificherà il circonciso per fede, e l'incirconciso parimente mediante la fede. 31 Annulliamo noi dunque la legge mediante la fede? Così non sia; anzi, stabiliamo la legge.

ROMANS 3

1 What good is it to be a Jew? What good is it to be circumcised? 2 It is good in a lot of ways! First of all, God's messages were spoken to the Jews. 3 It is true that some of them did not believe the message. But does this mean that God cannot be trusted, just because they did not have faith?

4 t No, indeed! God tells the truth, even if everyone else is a liar. The Scriptures say about God,
“Your words
will be proven true,
and in court
you will win your case.”
5 If our evil deeds show how right God is, then what can we say? Is it wrong for God to become angry and punish us? What a foolish thing to ask. 6 But the answer is, “No.” Otherwise, how could God judge the world? 7 Since your lies bring great honor to God by showing how truthful he is, you may ask why God still says you are a sinner.

8 You might as well say, “Let's do something evil, so that something good will come of it!” Some people even claim that we are saying this. But God is fair and will judge them as well.

No One Is Good

10 t The Scriptures tell us,
“No one is acceptable to God!

11 Not one of them understands
or even searches for God.

12 They have all turned away
and are worthless.
There isn't one person
who does right.

13  t Their words are like
an open pit,
and their tongues are good
only for telling lies.
Each word is as deadly
as the fangs of a snake,

14  t and they say nothing
but bitter curses.

15  t These people quickly
become violent.

16 Wherever they go,
they leave ruin
and destruction.

17 They don't know how
to live in peace.

18  t They don't even fear God.”
19 We know that everything in the Law was written for those who are under its power. The Law says these things to stop anyone from making excuses and to let God show that the whole world is guilty.

20 t God doesn't accept people simply because they obey the Law. No, indeed! All the Law does is to point out our sin.

God's Way //of Accepting People

25-26 t God sent Christ to be our sacrifice. Christ offered his life's blood, so by faith in him we could come to God. And God did this to show that in the past he was right to be patient and forgive sinners. This also shows that God is right when he accepts people who have faith in Jesus.
27 What is left for us to brag about? Not a thing! Is it because we obeyed some law? No! It is because of faith. 28 We see that people are acceptable to God because they have faith, and not because they obey the Law. 29 Does God belong only to the Jews? Isn't he also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, he is! 30 t There is only one God, and he accepts Gentiles as well as Jews, simply because of their faith. 31 Do we destroy the Law by our faith? Not at all! We make it even more powerful.
