Romanos 3

1 Vamos a ver: ¿Vale la pena ser judío? ¿Conviene circuncidarse ?2 ¡Claro que sí! Porque el mensaje de Dios se les dio a los judíos antes que a nadie.3 Y aunque es verdad que algunos de ellos no hicieron caso del mensaje, eso no significa que Dios dejará de cumplirles todo lo que les prometió.

4 ¡De ninguna manera! Aunque todo el mundo miente, Dios siempre dice la verdad. Así lo dice la Biblia :

«Todos reconocerán
que siempre dices la verdad.
Por eso ganarás el pleito
cuando te acusen ante los jueces.»

5 Todo lo malo que hacemos demuestra que Dios es justo cuando se enoja y nos castiga. No por eso vamos a decir que Dios es injusto.6 ¡De ninguna manera! Si Dios no fuera justo, ¿cómo podría decidir quiénes son malos y quiénes son buenos?

7-8 Alguien podría pensar que no merece ser castigado, ya que sus mentiras hacen que la verdad de Dios se vea con mayor claridad. En tal caso, podría alegarse que es mejor hacer lo malo, ya que Dios convierte lo malo en bueno. Pero no se equivoquen. Pensar así es un error. Además, no es eso lo que quiero enseñar, aunque algunos me acusan de hacerlo. En todo caso, Dios es justo, y castigará a esos mentirosos.

Nadie es justo

9 ¿Quiere decir todo esto que nosotros, los judíos, somos mejores que los demás? ¡Claro que no! Como ya les dije, seamos judíos o no lo seamos, todos somos pecadores .

10 La Biblia nos lo dice:

«Nadie es justo.

11 Nadie entiende nada,
ni quiere buscar a Dios.

12 Todos se han alejado de él;
todos se han vuelto malos.

Nadie, absolutamente nadie,
quiere hacer lo bueno.

13 Sólo dicen cosas malas;
sólo saben decir mentiras.

Hacen tanto daño
con sus palabras,
como una serpiente
con su veneno.

14 Hablan con amargura
y maldicen a la gente.

15 Fácilmente se enojan
y matan a cualquiera.

16 A dondequiera que van,
todo lo destruyen
y lo dejan destrozado.

17 No saben vivir en paz,

18 ni respetan a Dios.»

19 Sabemos que la ley de Moisés tiene valor para los que se someten a ella. Y lo que la ley dice, es para que nadie pueda declararse inocente; es para que todo el mundo se reconozca culpable ante Dios.

20 El cumplimiento de la ley no nos hace inocentes ante Dios; la ley sólo sirve para que reconozcamos que somos pecadores.

La confianza en Jesucristo

21 La Biblia misma nos enseña claramente que ahora Dios nos acepta sin necesidad de cumplir la ley.22 Dios acepta a todos los que creen y confían en Jesucristo, sin importar si son judíos o no lo son.23 Todos hemos pecado , y por eso estamos lejos de Dios.24 Pero él nos ama mucho, y nos declara inocentes sin pedirnos nada a cambio. Por medio de Jesús, nos ha librado del castigo que merecían nuestros pecados.

25-26 Dios envió a Jesucristo para morir por nosotros. Si confiamos en que Jesús murió por nosotros, Dios nos perdonará. Con esto Dios demuestra que es justo y que, gracias a su paciencia, ahora nos perdona todo lo malo que antes hicimos. Él es justo, y sólo acepta a los que confían en Jesús.
27-28 Ante Dios, no tenemos nada de qué estar orgullosos. Pues Dios nos acepta porque confiamos en Jesucristo, y no por obedecer la ley de Moisés.29 Dios no es solamente Dios de los judíos; en realidad, él es Dios de todos, sean o no judíos.30 Hay un solo Dios, y es el Dios que acepta a todos los que confían en Jesucristo, sean judíos o no lo sean.

31 Pero si confiamos en Jesús, eso no quiere decir que la ley ya no sirva. Al contrario, si confiamos en él, la ley cobra más valor.

ROMANS 3

1 What good is it to be a Jew? What good is it to be circumcised? 2 It is good in a lot of ways! First of all, God's messages were spoken to the Jews. 3 It is true that some of them did not believe the message. But does this mean that God cannot be trusted, just because they did not have faith?

4 t No, indeed! God tells the truth, even if everyone else is a liar. The Scriptures say about God,
“Your words
will be proven true,
and in court
you will win your case.”
5 If our evil deeds show how right God is, then what can we say? Is it wrong for God to become angry and punish us? What a foolish thing to ask. 6 But the answer is, “No.” Otherwise, how could God judge the world? 7 Since your lies bring great honor to God by showing how truthful he is, you may ask why God still says you are a sinner.

8 You might as well say, “Let's do something evil, so that something good will come of it!” Some people even claim that we are saying this. But God is fair and will judge them as well.

No One Is Good

10 t The Scriptures tell us,
“No one is acceptable to God!

11 Not one of them understands
or even searches for God.

12 They have all turned away
and are worthless.
There isn't one person
who does right.

13  t Their words are like
an open pit,
and their tongues are good
only for telling lies.
Each word is as deadly
as the fangs of a snake,

14  t and they say nothing
but bitter curses.

15  t These people quickly
become violent.

16 Wherever they go,
they leave ruin
and destruction.

17 They don't know how
to live in peace.

18  t They don't even fear God.”
19 We know that everything in the Law was written for those who are under its power. The Law says these things to stop anyone from making excuses and to let God show that the whole world is guilty.

20 t God doesn't accept people simply because they obey the Law. No, indeed! All the Law does is to point out our sin.

God's Way //of Accepting People

25-26 t God sent Christ to be our sacrifice. Christ offered his life's blood, so by faith in him we could come to God. And God did this to show that in the past he was right to be patient and forgive sinners. This also shows that God is right when he accepts people who have faith in Jesus.
27 What is left for us to brag about? Not a thing! Is it because we obeyed some law? No! It is because of faith. 28 We see that people are acceptable to God because they have faith, and not because they obey the Law. 29 Does God belong only to the Jews? Isn't he also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, he is! 30 t There is only one God, and he accepts Gentiles as well as Jews, simply because of their faith. 31 Do we destroy the Law by our faith? Not at all! We make it even more powerful.
