1 เหตุฉะนั้นเมื่อเราเป็นคนชอบธรรมเพราะความเชื่อแล้ว เราจึงมีสันติสุขกับพระเจ้าทางพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา2 โดยทางพระองค์ เราจึงได้เข้าในร่มพระคุณที่เรายืนอยู่โดยความเชื่อ และเราชื่นชมยินดีในความหวังใจว่าจะได้มีส่วนในสง่าราศีของพระเจ้า3 ยิ่งกว่านั้น เราชื่นชมยินดีในความทุกข์ยากด้วย เพราะเรารู้ว่าความทุกข์ยากนั้นทำให้เกิดความอดทน4 และความอดทนทำให้เกิดมีประสบการณ์ และประสบการณ์ทำให้เกิดมีความหวังใจ5 และความหวังใจมิได้ทำให้เกิดความละอาย เพราะเหตุว่าความรักของพระเจ้าได้หลั่งไหลเข้าสู่จิตใจของเรา โดยทางพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ ซึ่งพระองค์ได้ประทานให้แก่เราแล้ว6 ขณะเมื่อเรายังขาดกำลัง พระคริสต์ก็ได้ทรงสิ้นพระชนม์เพื่อช่วยคนอธรรมในเวลาที่เหมาะสม7 ไม่ใคร่จะมีใครตายเพื่อคนชอบธรรม แต่บางทีจะมีคนอาจตายเพื่อคนดีก็ได้8 แต่พระเจ้าทรงสำแดงความรักของพระองค์แก่เราทั้งหลาย คือขณะที่เรายังเป็นคนบาปอยู่นั้น พระคริสต์ได้ทรงสิ้นพระชนม์เพื่อเรา9 บัดนี้เราจึงเป็นคนชอบธรรมแล้วโดยพระโลหิตของพระองค์ ยิ่งกว่านั้น เราจะพ้นจากพระพิโรธโดยพระองค์10 เพราะว่าถ้าขณะที่เรายังเป็นศัตรู เราได้กลับคืนดีกับพระเจ้าโดยที่พระบุตรของพระองค์สิ้นพระชนม์ ยิ่งกว่านั้นอีกเมื่อเรากลับคืนดีแล้ว เราก็จะรอดโดยพระชนม์ชีพของพระองค์แน่11 มิใช่เพียงเท่านั้น แต่เราทั้งหลายยังชื่นชมยินดีในพระเจ้าโดยทางพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา เพราะโดยพระองค์นั้นเดี๋ยวนี้เราจึงได้กลับคืนดีกับพระเจ้า12 เหตุฉะนั้นเช่นเดียวกับที่บาปได้เข้ามาในโลกเพราะคนๆเดียว และความตายก็เกิดมาเพราะบาปนั้น และความตายก็ได้แผ่ไปถึงมวลมนุษย์ทุกคน เพราะมนุษย์ทุกคนทำบาป13 (บาปได้มีอยู่ในโลกแล้วก่อนมีพระราชบัญญัติ แต่ที่ใดไม่มีพระราชบัญญัติก็ไม่ถือว่ามีบาป14 อย่างไรก็ตามความตายก็ได้ครอบงำตลอดมาตั้งแต่อาดัมจนถึงโมเสส แม้คนที่มิได้ทำบาปอย่างเดียวกับการละเมิดของอาดัม ผู้ซึ่งเป็นแบบของผู้ที่จะเสด็จมาภายหลัง15 แต่ของประทานแห่งพระคุณนั้นหาเป็นเช่นความละเมิดนั้นไม่ เพราะว่าถ้าคนเป็นอันมากต้องตายเพราะการละเมิดของคนๆเดียว มากยิ่งกว่านั้น พระคุณของพระเจ้าและของประทานโดยพระคุณของพระองค์ผู้เดียวนั้น คือพระเยซูคริสต์ ก็มีบริบูรณ์แก่คนเป็นอันมาก16 และของประทานนั้นก็ไม่เหมือนกับผลซึ่งเกิดจากบาปของคนนั้นคนเดียว เพราะว่าการพิพากษาที่เกิดขึ้นเนื่องจากการละเมิดเพียงครั้งเดียวนั้น ได้นำไปสู่การลงโทษ แต่ของประทานภายหลังการละเมิดหลายครั้งนั้นนำไปสู่ความชอบธรรม17 เพราะว่าถ้าโดยการละเมิดของคนนั้นคนเดียว เป็นเหตุให้ความตายครอบงำอยู่โดยคนนั้นคนเดียว มากยิ่งกว่านั้นคนทั้งหลายที่รับพระคุณอันไพบูลย์และรับของประทานแห่งความชอบธรรม ก็จะดำรงชีวิตและครอบครองโดยพระองค์ผู้เดียว คือพระเยซูคริสต์)18 ฉะนั้นการพิพากษาลงโทษได้มาถึงคนทั้งปวงเพราะการละเมิดของคนๆเดียวฉันใด ความชอบธรรมของพระองค์ผู้เดียวก็นำของประทานแห่งพระคุณมาถึงทุกคนฉันนั้น คือความชอบธรรมแห่งชีวิต19 เพราะว่าคนเป็นอันมากเป็นคนบาปเพราะคนๆเดียวที่มิได้เชื่อฟังฉันใด คนเป็นอันมากก็เป็นคนชอบธรรมเพราะพระองค์ผู้เดียวที่ได้ทรงเชื่อฟังฉันนั้น20 เมื่อมีพระราชบัญญัติก็ทำให้มีการละเมิดพระราชบัญญัติปรากฏมากขึ้น แต่ที่ใดมีบาปปรากฏมากขึ้น ที่นั่นพระคุณก็จะไพบูลย์ยิ่งขึ้น21 เพื่อว่าบาปได้ครอบงำทำให้ถึงซึ่งความตายฉันใด พระคุณก็ครอบงำด้วยความชอบธรรมให้ถึงซึ่งชีวิตนิรันดร์ โดยทางพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเราฉันนั้น
Romans 5
1 Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;2 through whom also we have had our access by faith into this grace wherein we stand; and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.3 And not only so, but we also rejoice in our tribulations: knowing that tribulation worketh stedfastness;4 and stedfastness, approvedness; and approvedness, hope:5 and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given unto us.6 For while we were yet weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly.7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: for peradventure for the good man some one would even dare to die.8 But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from the wrath of God through him.10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life;11 and not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.12 Therefore, as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death passed unto all men, for that all sinned:--13 for until the law sin was in the world; but sin is not imputed when there is no law.14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the likeness of Adam’s transgression, who is a figure of him that was to come.15 But not as the trespass, so also is the free gift. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound unto the many.16 And not as through one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment came of one unto condemnation, but the free gift came of many trespasses unto justification.17 For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, even Jesus Christ.18 So then as through one trespass the judgment came unto all men to condemnation; even so through one act of righteousness the free gift came unto all men to justification of life.19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one shall the many be made righteous.20 And the law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly:21 that, as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
