En el bautismo nos unimos a Cristo
1 ¿Qué diremos entonces? ¿Vamos a seguir pecando para que Dios se muestre aún más bondadoso?2 ¡Claro que no! Nosotros ya hemos muerto respecto al pecado; ¿cómo, pues, podremos seguir viviendo en pecado?3 ¿No saben ustedes que, al quedar unidos a Cristo Jesús en el bautismo, quedamos unidos a su muerte?4 Pues por el bautismo fuimos sepultados con Cristo, y morimos para ser resucitados y vivir una vida nueva, así como Cristo fue resucitado por el glorioso poder del Padre.5 Si nos hemos unido a Cristo en una muerte como la suya, también nos uniremos a él en su resurrección.6 Sabemos que lo que antes éramos fue crucificado con Cristo, para que el poder de nuestra naturaleza pecadora quedara destruido y ya no siguiéramos siendo esclavos del pecado.7 Porque, cuando uno muere, queda libre del pecado.8 Si nosotros hemos muerto con Cristo, confiamos en que también viviremos con él.9 Sabemos que Cristo, habiendo resucitado, no volverá a morir. La muerte ya no tiene poder sobre él.10 Pues Cristo, al morir, murió de una vez para siempre respecto al pecado; pero al vivir, vive para Dios.11 Así también, ustedes considérense muertos respecto al pecado, pero vivos para Dios en unión con Cristo Jesús.12 Por lo tanto, no dejen ustedes que el pecado siga dominando en su cuerpo mortal y que los siga obligando a obedecer los deseos del cuerpo.13 No entreguen su cuerpo al pecado, como instrumento para hacer lo malo. Al contrario, entréguense a Dios, como personas que han muerto y han vuelto a vivir, y entréguenle su cuerpo como instrumento para hacer lo que es justo ante él.14 Así el pecado ya no tendrá poder sobre ustedes, pues no están sujetos a la ley sino a la bondad de Dios.
Comparación con la esclavitud
15 ¿Entonces qué? ¿Vamos a pecar porque no estamos sujetos a la ley sino a la bondad de Dios? ¡Claro que no!16 Ustedes saben muy bien que si se entregan como esclavos a un amo para obedecerlo, entonces son esclavos de ese amo a quien obedecen. Y esto es así, tanto si obedecen al pecado, lo cual lleva a la muerte, como si obedecen a Dios para vivir en la justicia.17 Pero gracias a Dios que ustedes, que antes eran esclavos del pecado, ya han obedecido de corazón a la forma de enseñanza que han recibido.18 Una vez libres de la esclavitud del pecado, ustedes han entrado al servicio de la justicia.19 (Hablo en términos humanos, porque ustedes, por su debilidad, no pueden entender bien estas cosas.) De modo que, así como antes entregaron su cuerpo al servicio de la impureza y la maldad para hacer lo malo, entreguen también ahora su cuerpo al servicio de la justicia, con el fin de llevar una vida santa.20 Cuando ustedes todavía eran esclavos del pecado, no estaban al servicio de la justicia;21 pero ¿qué provecho sacaron entonces? Ahora ustedes se avergüenzan de esas cosas, pues sólo llevan a la muerte.22 Pero ahora, libres de la esclavitud del pecado, han entrado al servicio de Dios. Esto sí les es provechoso, pues el resultado es la vida santa y, finalmente, la vida eterna.23 El pago que da el pecado es la muerte, pero el don de Dios es vida eterna en unión con Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.
Romans 6
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?2 God forbid. We who died to sin, how shall we any longer live therein?3 Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?4 We were buried therefore with him through baptism unto death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.5 For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection;6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin;7 for he that hath died is justified from sin.8 But if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him;9 knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over him.10 For the death that he died, he died unto sin once: but the life that he liveth, he liveth unto God.11 Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus.12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey the lusts thereof:13 neither present your members unto sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves unto God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under law, but under grace.15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? God forbid.16 Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves as servants unto obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?17 But thanks be to God, that, whereas ye were servants of sin, ye became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto ye were delivered;18 and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness.19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness unto sanctification.20 For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free in regard of righteousness.21 What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.22 But now being made free from sin and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life.23 For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
