6. Con Cristo hemos muerto al pecado (6)
Unidos a Cristo en el bautismo
1 ¿Qué, pues, diremos? ¿Vamos a seguir pecando para que Dios se muestre aún más bondadoso? 2 ¡De ninguna manera! Nosotros ya hemos muerto respecto al pecado:t ¿cómo, pues, podremos seguir viviendo en pecado?t 3 ¿No sabéis que, al quedar unidos a Cristo Jesús por el bautismo,t quedamos unidos a su muerte?t
4 Pues por el bautismo fuimos sepultados con Cristo,t y morimos para ser resucitados y vivir una vida nueva, así como Cristo fue resucitado por el glorioso poder del Padre.
5 Si hemos sido unidos a Cristo en una muerte como la suya, también seremos unidos a él en su resurrección. 6 Sabemos que aquello que antes éramost fue crucificado con Cristo, para que el poder de nuestra naturaleza pecadora quedase destruido y ya no siguiéramos siendo esclavos del pecado.t 7 En efecto, cuando uno muere queda libre de pecado.t 8 Si hemos muerto con Cristo, confiamos en que también viviremos con él.t 9 Sabemos que Cristo, habiendo resucitado, no volverá a morir. La muerte ya no tiene poder sobre él. 10 Pues Cristo, al morir, murió de una vez por siempret respecto al pecado;t pero al vivir, vive para Dios.
11 Así también, vosotros consideraost muertos respecto al pecado, pero vivos para Dios en unión con Cristo Jesús.t
12 Por lo tanto, no dejéis que el pecado siga dominando en vuestro cuerpo mortal y que os siga obligando a obedecer los deseos del cuerpo. 13 No entreguéis vuestro cuerpo al pecado como instrumento para hacer el mal. Al contrario, entregaos a Diost como personas que han muerto y han vuelto a vivir, y entregadle vuestro cuerpo como instrumento para hacer el bien.
14 Así el pecado no tendrá poder sobre vosotros,t pues ya no estáis sometidos a la ley sino a la bondad de Dios.tEl símil de la esclavitud
15 ¿Qué, pues? ¿Vamos a pecar porque no estamos sometidos a la ley sino a la bondad de Dios? ¡De ninguna manera! 16 Sabéis muy bien que si os entregáis como esclavos a un amo para obedecerle, os hacéis esclavos de ese amo a quien obedecéis. Y esto es así, lo mismo si obedecéis al pecado, lo cual lleva a la muerte, que si obedecéis a Dios, lo cual lleva a una vida de justicia. 17 Pero, gracias a Dios, vosotros, que antes erais esclavos del pecado, habéis obedecido de corazón a la forma de enseñanza que habéis recibido. 18 Una vez libres de la esclavitud del pecado habéis entrado al servicio de una vida de justicia
19 (os estoy hablando en términos humanos para que podáis entender bien estas cosas). De modo que, así como antes entregasteis vuestro cuerpo al servicio de la impureza y la maldad para hacer el mal, entregad también ahora vuestro cuerpo al servicio de una vida de justicia, para vuestra santificación.
20 Cuando todavía erais esclavos del pecado no estabais al servicio de una vida de justicia. 21 ¿Pero qué provecho sacasteis de aquellas cosas que ahora os avergüenzan, y que no llevan sino a la muerte? 22 Ahora, en cambio, libres de la esclavitud del pecado habéis entrado al servicio de Dios. Y el provechoso resultado de esto es vuestra santificación, y finalmente la vida eterna.t 23 El pago que da el pecado es la muerte, pero el don de Dios es vida eterna en unión con Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.t
Romans 6
The Believer’s Freedom from Sin’s Domination
1 What shall we say then? Are we to remain in sin so that grace may increase?2 Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it?3 Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may live a new life.t
5 For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will certainly also be united in the likeness of his resurrection.t6 We know thatt our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us,t so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
7 (For someone who has died has been freed from sin.)s
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.9 We knowt that since Christ has been raised from the dead, he is never going to diet again; death no longer has mastery over him.10 For the death he died, he died to sin once for all, but the life he lives, he lives to God.
11 So you too consider yourselvess dead to sin, butt alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires,13 and do not present your members to sin as instrumentst to be used for unrighteousness,t but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead and your members to God as instrumentst to be used for righteousness.
14 For sin will have no mastery over you, because you are not under law but under grace.
The Believer’s Enslavement to God’s Righteousness
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not!16 Do you not know that if you present yourselvest as obedient slaves,t you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or obedience resulting in righteousness?t17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves to sin, you obeyedt from the heart that patternt of teaching you were entrusted to,18 and having been freed from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness.19 (I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.)ts For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.
20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free with regard to righteousness.
21 So what benefitt did you then reapt from those things that you are now ashamed of? For the end of those things is death.22 But now, freedt from sin and enslaved to God, you have your benefitt leading to sanctification, and the end is eternal life.
23 For the payofft of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
