7. Ya no estamos bajo la ley de Moisés (7.1-13)
El símil del matrimonio
1 Hermanos, vosotros conocéis la ley,t y sabéis que solo en vida de una persona tiene la ley poder sobre ella. 2 Por ejemplo, una mujer casada está sujeta por la ley a su esposo mientras él vive; pero si el esposo muere, la mujer queda liberada de esa ley por la que le estaba sujeta.
3 Por eso, si la mujer, en vida de su esposo, tiene relaciones con otro hombre, comete adulterio; pero si el esposo muere, ella queda liberada de esa ley y puede casarse con otro sin cometer adulterio.
4 Así también vosotros, hermanos míos, al incorporaros a Cristot habéis muerto con él a la ley, para pertenecer así a otro esposo: ahora sois de Cristo, de aquel que resucitó. De este modo, nuestra vida será útil delante de Dios. 5 Porque mientras vivíamos conforme a nuestra naturaleza pecadora, la ley sirvió para despertar en nuestro cuerpo los malos deseos, y eso nos llevó a la muerte.
6 Pero ahora hemos muerto a la ley que nos tenía bajo su poder, quedando libres para servir a Dios conforme a la nueva vida del Espíritu y no conforme a una ley ya anticuada.tEl pecado se aprovechó de la ley
7 ¿Vamos a decir por esto que la ley es pecado? ¡De ninguna manera! Sin embargo, yo no habría conocido el pecado si no hubiera sido por la ley.t En efecto, jamás habría sabido lo que es codiciar si la ley no hubiera dicho: “No codicies.”t 8 Pero el pecado, valiéndose del propio mandamiento, despertó en mí toda clase de malos deseos; pues mientras no hay ley, el pecado es cosa muerta.t 9 Hubo un tiempo en que, sin la ley, yo tenía vida; pero cuando vino el mandamiento cobró vida el pecado, 10 y yo morí. Así resultó que aquel mandamiento que debía darme la vida me llevó a la muerte,
11 porque el pecado, aprovechándose del mandamiento, me engañó,t y con el mismo mandamiento me dio la muerte.
12 En resumen, la ley en sí misma es santa, y el mandamiento es santo, justo y bueno.t
13 Pero entonces, ¿esto que es bueno habrá de llevarme a la muerte? ¡De ninguna manera! Lo que pasa es que el pecado, para demostrar que verdaderamente es pecado, me causó la muerte valiéndose de lo bueno. Y así, por medio del mandamiento, quedó demostrado lo terriblemente malo que es el pecado.8. La debilidad humana (7.14-25)
14 Sabemos que la ley es espiritual, pero yo, en mi condición humana,t estoy vendido como esclavo al pecado. 15 No entiendo lo que me pasa, pues no hago lo que quiero, sino que precisamente aquello que odio es lo que hago.t 16 Pero si lo que hago es lo que no quiero hacer, reconozco con ello que la ley es buena. 17 Pero en este caso ya no soy yo quien lo hace, sino el pecado que está en mí. 18 Porque yo sé que en mí, es decir, en mi débil condición humana, no habita el bien; por eso, aunque tengo el deseo de hacer lo bueno, no soy capaz de hacerlo. 19 No hago lo bueno que quiero hacer, sino lo malo que no quiero.
20 Ahora bien, si lo que no quiero hacer es lo que hago, ya no soy yo quien lo hace, sino el pecado que está en mí.t
21 Me doy cuenta de que, aun queriendo hacer lo bueno, solo encuentro lo malo a mi alcance. 22 En mi interior me agrada la ley de Dios;
23 pero veo en mí otra ley, que se opone a mi capacidad de razonar: es la ley del pecado que está en mí y me tiene preso.
24 ¡Desdichado de mí! ¿Quién me librará del poder de la muerte que está en mi cuerpo?t
25 Solamente Dios, a quien doy graciast por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. En conclusión: entiendo que debo someterme a la ley de Dios, pero en lo débil de mi condición humana estoy sometido a la ley del pecado.

The Believer’s Relationship to the Law
1 Or do you not know, brothers and sisterst (for I am speaking to those who know the law), that the law is lord over a persons as long as he lives?2 For a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives, but if hert husband dies, she is released from the law of the marriage.ts3 So then,t if she is joined to another man while her husband is alive, she will be called an adulteress. But if hert husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she is joined to another man, she is not an adulteress.4 So, my brothers and sisters,t you also died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you could be joined to another, to the one who was raised from the dead, to bear fruit to God.t5 For when we were in the flesh,t the sinful desires,t aroused by the law, were active in the members of our bodyt to bear fruit for death.
6 But now we have been released from the law, because we have diedt to what controlled us, so that we may serve in the new life of the Spirit and not under the old written code.t
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! Certainly, Is would not have known sin except through the law. For indeed I would not have known what it means to desire something belonging to someone elset if the law had not said, “Do not covet.”s8 But sin, seizing the opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of wrong desires.t For apart from the law, sin is dead.9 And I was once alive apart from the law, but with the coming of the commandment sin became alive10 and I died. Sot I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life brought death!t11 For sin, seizing the opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it I died.t
12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good.
13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Absolutely not! But sin, so that it would be shown to be sin, produced death in me through what is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.14 For we know that the law is spiritual – but I am unspiritual, sold into slavery to sin.t15 For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want – instead, I do what I hate.t16 But if I do what I don’t want, I agree that the law is good.t17 But now it is no longer me doing it, but sin that lives in me.18 For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For I want to do the good, but I cannot do it.t19 For I do not do the good I want, but I do the very evil I do not want!
20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer me doing it but sin that lives in me.
21 So, I find the law that when I want to do good, evil is present with me.22 For I delight in the law of God in my inner being.23 But I see a different law in my members waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that is in my members.24 Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
25 Thanks bes to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then,t I myself serve the law of God with my mind, butt with my flesh I servet the law of sin.
