Comparación matrimonial: // muertos a la ley y unidos a Cristo

1 Hermanos, ustedes ya saben que la leyt sólo tiene poder sobre el que está vivo.2 Por ejemplo, la ley dice que una mujer casada debe permanecer unida a su marido mientras él esté vivo. Si el hombre muere, entonces ella queda libre de la ley del matrimonio.

3 Sin embargo, si la mujer se casa con otro hombre mientras su esposo vive, ella comete adulteriot. En cambio, si el esposo muere, ella queda libre de la ley del matrimonio y se puede casar con otro hombre sin cometer adulterio.
4 Hermanos míos, de la misma manera, lo que ustedes eran antes murió cuando fueron unidos al cuerpo de Cristo. Ahora pertenecen a otro, a Cristo, que resucitó de la muerte. Y puesto que le pertenecen, pueden vivir una vida útil para Dios.5 Antes vivíamos una vida guiada por deseos perversos porque la ley nos hizo sentir deseos de utilizar el cuerpo para pecar y todo lo que sacábamos con eso era la muerte.

6 Pero ahora hemos muerto a la ley que nos limitaba y fuimos liberados de ella. Ahora servimos a Dios de una manera nueva por medio del Espíritu y no servimos ya a la antigua manera de la ley escrita.

Nuestra lucha contra el pecado

7 ¿Eso significa que la leyt es pecado? ¡Claro que no! Pero la ley era la única manera de saber qué es el pecado. Por ejemplo, no sabía lo que significa desear lo que no me pertenece, pero la ley decía: «No desees lo que no te pertenece»t, y sólo entonces fue cuando lo entendí.8 El pecado se aprovechó de la ley, usando en mi contra ese mandamiento para despertar en mí toda clase de malos deseos, pues el pecado no tiene poder cuando no hay ley.9 Antes yo vivía sin conocer la ley, pero cuando conocí el mandamiento de la ley, se despertó en mí el deseo de pecar10 y morí por culpa del pecado. El mandamiento que debía traerme vida me trajo muerte,

11 porque el pecado se aprovechó del mandamiento para engañarme y para matarme.
12 Así que la ley es santa y el mandamiento es santo, justo y bueno.

13 ¿Eso significa que lo que es bueno me trajo la muerte? ¡De ninguna manera! Lo que pasa es que el pecado se aprovechó de algo bueno para causarme la muerte y eso desenmascaró el pecado. A través del mandamiento se demostró que el pecado es terriblemente malo.
14 Así que todos sabemos que la ley es espiritual, pero yo no soy espiritual porque el pecado tiene poder sobre mí. Soy como un esclavo del pecado.15 No sé qué está pasando conmigo: lo que quisiera hacer no lo hago y resulto haciendo lo que odio.16 Como no me gusta hacer el mal que hago, eso significa que reconozco que la ley es buena.17 Pero en realidad no soy yo el que hace esas maldades, sino el pecado que vive en mí.18 Yo sé que en mí el bien no tiene vida, es decir, no reside en mi naturaleza humana. Hay en mí el deseo de hacer el bien, pero no puedo llevarlo a cabo.19 En efecto, no hago el bien que quiero hacer, sino que hago el mal que no quiero hacer.

20 Entonces si hago lo que no quiero hacer, no soy en realidad yo el que hace el mal, sino el pecado que vive en mí.
21 Así que he aprendido esta regla: aunque quiero hacer el bien, el mal está ahí conmigo.22 En mi interior yo estoy de acuerdo con la ley de Dios.23 Pero veo que aunque mi mente la acepta, en mi cuerpo hay otra ley que lucha contra la ley de Dios. Esa otra ley es la ley que impone el pecado. Esa ley vive en mi cuerpo y me hace prisionero del pecado.24 ¡Eso es terrible! ¿Quién me salvará de este cuerpo que me causa muerte?

25 ¡Dios me salvará! Le doy gracias a él por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
Así que mi intención es servir a la ley establecida por Dios, pero con mi cuerpo actúo como esclavo de una ley establecida por el pecado.

Romans 7

Believers United to Christ

1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I am speaking to those who know the law), that the law has jurisdiction over a person as long as he lives?2 For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is living; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband.3 So then, if while her husband is living she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress though she is joined to another man.

4 Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.5 For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death.6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the tSpirit and not in oldness of the letter.

7 What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET."8 But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead.9 I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died;10 and this commandment, which was to result in life, proved to result in death for me;11 for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.12 So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

13 Therefore did that which is good become a cause of death for me? May it never be! Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by effecting my death through that which is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.

The Conflict of Two Natures

14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.16 But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good.17 So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.

21 I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good.22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man,23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members.24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.
