Leben durch Gottes Geist

1 tWer nun mit Jesus Christus verbunden ist, wird von Gott nicht mehr verurteilt.2 tDenn für ihn gilt nicht länger das Gesetz der Sünde und des Todes. Es ist durch ein neues Gesetz aufgehoben, nämlich durch das Gesetz des Geistes Gottes, der durch Jesus Christus das Leben bringt.

3 tWie ist es dazu gekommen? Das Gesetz konnte uns nicht helfen, so zu leben, wie es Gott gefällt, weil wir, an die Sünde versklavt, zu schwach sind, es zu erfüllen. Deshalb sandte Gott seinen Sohn zu uns. Er wurde Mensch und war wie wir der Macht der Sünde ausgesetzt. An unserer Stelle nahm er Gottes Verurteilung der Sünde auf sich.

4 tSo erfüllt sich in unserem Leben der Wille Gottes, wie es das Gesetz schon immer verlangt hat; denn jetzt bestimmt Gottes Geist und nicht mehr die sündige menschliche Natur unser Leben.5 Wer seinen selbstsüchtigen Wünschen folgt, der bleibt seiner sündigen Natur ausgeliefert. Wenn aber Gottes Geist in uns wohnt, wird auch unser Leben von seinem Geist bestimmt.6 tWas unsere alte, sündige Natur will, bringt den Tod. Regiert uns aber Gottes Geist, dann schenkt er uns Frieden und Leben.

7 Von unserem Wesen her lehnen wir Menschen uns gegen Gott auf, weil wir seine Gebote nicht erfüllen und auch gar nicht erfüllen können.8 Deshalb kann Gott an denen, die so selbstsüchtig leben, kein Gefallen finden.9 tNun aber seid ihr nicht länger eurem selbstsüchtigen Wesen ausgeliefert, denn Gottes Geist bestimmt euer Leben - schließlich wohnt er ja in euch! Seid euch darüber im Klaren: Wer den Geist Christi nicht hat, der gehört auch nicht zu ihm.

10 tWenn Christus in euch lebt, dann ist zwar euer Körper wegen eurer Sünde noch dem Tod ausgeliefert. Doch Gottes Geist schenkt euch ein neues Leben, weil Gott euch angenommen hat.t11 tIst der Geist Gottes in euch, so wird Gott, der Jesus von den Toten auferweckt hat, auch euren sterblichen Leib wieder lebendig machen; sein Geist wohnt ja in euch.

12 tDarum, liebe Brüder und Schwestern, sind wir nicht mehr unserer alten menschlichen Natur verpflichtet und müssen nicht länger ihren Wünschen und ihrem Verlangen folgen.13 Denn wer ihr folgt, ist dem Tod ausgeliefert. Wenn ihr aber mit der Kraft des Geistes eure selbstsüchtigen Wünsche tötet, werdet ihr leben.

14 tAlle, die sich vom Geist Gottes regieren lassen, sind Kinder Gottes.15 tDenn der Geist Gottes, den ihr empfangen habt, führt euch nicht in eine neue Sklaverei, in der ihr wieder Angst haben müsstet. Er macht euch vielmehr zu Gottes Kindern. Jetzt können wir zu Gott kommen und zu ihm sagen: »Vater, lieber Vater!«16 tGottes Geist selbst gibt uns die innere Gewissheit, dass wir Gottes Kinder sind.17 Als seine Kinder aber sind wir - gemeinsam mit Christus - auch seine Erben. Und leiden wir jetzt mit Christus, werden wir einmal auch seine Herrlichkeit mit ihm teilen.

Hoffnung für die ganze Schöpfung

18 tIch bin ganz sicher, dass alles, was wir zurzeit erleiden, nichts ist, verglichen mit der Herrlichkeit, die Gott uns einmal schenken möchte.19 Darum wartet die ganze Schöpfung sehnsüchtig und voller Hoffnung auf den Tag, an dem Gott seine Kinder in diese Herrlichkeit aufnimmt.

20 tOhne eigenes Verschulden sind alle Geschöpfe der Vergänglichkeit ausgeliefert, weil Gott es so bestimmt hat. Aber er hat ihnen die Hoffnung gegeben,21 dass sie zusammen mit den Kindern Gottes einmal von Tod und Vergänglichkeit erlöst und zu einem neuen, herrlichen Leben befreit werden.22 Wir wissen ja, dass die gesamte Schöpfung leidet und stöhnt wie eine Frau in den Geburtswehen.

23 tAber auch wir selbst, denen Gott bereits jetzt seinen Geist als Anfang des neuen Lebens gegeben hat, warten voller Sehnsucht darauf, dass Gott uns als seine Kinder zu sich nimmt und auch unseren Leib von aller Vergänglichkeit befreit.

24 Darauf können wir zunächst nur hoffen und warten, obwohl wir schon gerettet sind. Hoffen aber bedeutet: noch nicht haben. Denn was einer schon hat und sieht, darauf braucht er nicht mehr zu hoffen.25 Hoffen wir aber auf etwas, das wir noch nicht sehen können, dann warten wir zuversichtlich darauf.

26 tDabei hilft uns der Geist Gottes in all unseren Schwächen und Nöten. Wissen wir doch nicht einmal, wie wir beten sollen, damit es Gott gefällt! Deshalb tritt der Geist Gottes für uns ein, er bittet für uns mit einem Seufzen, wie es sich nicht in Worte fassen lässt.27 Und Gott, der unsere Herzen ganz genau kennt, weiß, was der Geist für uns betet. Denn der Geist vertritt uns im Gebet, so wie Gott es für alle möchte, die zu ihm gehören.

28 tDas eine aber wissen wir: Wer Gott liebt, dem dient alles, was geschieht, zum Guten. Dies gilt für alle, die Gott nach seinem Plan und Willen zum neuen Leben erwählt hat.29 tWen Gott nämlich auserwählt hat, der ist nach seinem Willen auch dazu bestimmt, seinem Sohn ähnlich zu werden, damit dieser der Erste ist unter vielen Brüdern und Schwestern.30 Und wen Gott dafür bestimmt hat, den hat er auch in seine Gemeinschaft berufen; wen er aber berufen hat, den hat er auch von seiner Schuld befreit. Und wen er von seiner Schuld befreit hat, der hat schon im Glauben Anteil an seiner Herrlichkeit.

Gottes grenzenlose Liebe

31 Kann man wirklich noch mehr erwarten? Wenn Gott für uns ist, wer kann dann gegen uns sein?32 Gott hat seinen eigenen Sohn nicht verschont, sondern ihn für uns alle dem Tod ausgeliefert. Sollte er uns da noch etwas vorenthalten?33 tWer könnte es wagen, die von Gott Auserwählten anzuklagen? Niemand, denn Gott selbst hat sie von aller Schuld freigesprochen.34 tWer wollte es wagen, sie zu verurteilen? Keiner, denn Christus ist für sie gestorben, ja noch mehr: Er ist vom Tod auferweckt worden und hat seinen Platz an Gottes rechter Seite eingenommen. Dort tritt er jetzt vor Gott für uns ein.

35 Was also könnte uns von Christus und seiner Liebe trennen? Leiden und Angst vielleicht? Verfolgung? Hunger? Armut? Gefahr oder gewaltsamer Tod?36 Man geht wirklich mit uns um, wie es schon in der Heiligen Schrift beschrieben wird: »Weil wir zu dir, Herr, gehören, werden wir überall verfolgt und getötet - wie Schafe werden wir geschlachtet!«t

37 Aber dennoch: Mitten im Leid triumphieren wir über alles durch die Verbindung mit Christus, der uns so geliebt hat.38 tDenn ich bin ganz sicher: Weder Tod noch Leben, weder Engel noch Dämonent, weder Gegenwärtiges noch Zukünftiges, noch irgendwelche Gewalten,

39 weder Hohes noch Tiefest oder sonst irgendetwas können uns von der Liebe Gottes trennen, die er uns in Jesus Christus, unserem Herrn, schenkt.

Romans 8

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.5 For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.6 For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace:7 because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be:8 and they that are in the flesh cannot please God.9 But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness.11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.12 So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh:13 for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live.14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.15 For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.16 The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are children of God:17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him.18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us-ward.19 For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God.20 For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it, in hope21 that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.23 And not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.24 For in hope were we saved: but hope that is seen is not hope: for who hopeth for that which he seeth?25 But if we hope for that which we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.26 And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered;27 and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.28 And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.29 For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren:30 and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also with him freely give us all things?33 Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth;34 who is he that condemneth? It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?36 Even as it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter.37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
