Carta a

1-4 Estimado Tito:
Te saludo yo, Pablo, siervo de Dios y apóstol de Jesucristo. Fui enviado para que el pueblo que Dios ha elegido tenga fe en él y para que conozca la verdad que enseña cómo servir a Dios. La meta es que tengan la esperanza de vida eterna que Dios prometió desde antes de que el tiempo existiera, y él no miente. Dios mostró esa vida al mundo en el momento apropiado y la dio a conocer a través del mensaje que me encargó anunciar. Hago este trabajo por mandato de Dios nuestro Salvador.
Mi verdadero hijo en la fe que compartimos, que la paz y las bendiciones de Dios nuestro Padre y de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo estén siempre contigo.

La obra de Tito en Creta

5 Te dejé en Creta para que pudieras terminar lo que quedaba por hacer y nombraras ancianos líderest de la iglesiat en cada pueblo. Como te dije,6 un anciano líder debe tener estas cualidades: una reputación sin mancha, fiel a su esposat e hijos fieles a Diost que nadie pueda acusar de tener mala conducta ni de ser rebeldes.7 Un anciano lídert debe vivir con honestidad porque está encargado de la obra de Dios. No debe ser arrogante, ni enojarse fácilmente, ni tomar mucho vino, ni gustarle andar en peleas ni ganar dinero de manera deshonesta.8 Al contrario, debe estar dispuesto a recibir en su hogar a los necesitados, hacer el bien, ser sensato y justo, hacer lo que agrada a Dios y tener dominio propio.

9 Debe apegarse al mensaje verdadero tal como lo enseñamos, para que así también con la sana enseñanza pueda ayudar a los creyentes y corregir a los que se oponen.
10 Pues hay muchos que son rebeldes, hablan de cosas que no sirven para nada y llevan a otros por el mal camino. En particular me refiero a todos aquellos entre nosotros que dicen que los que no son judíos deben ser circuncidadost para ser agradables a Dios.11 Ellos están destruyendo familias enteras enseñando lo que no deben para conseguir dinero mal habido. ¡Hay que taparle la boca a esa gente!12 Hasta un profeta de la misma Creta lo ha dicho: «Los de Creta son unos mentirosos, unos animales y unos perezosos que no dejan de comer».13 Lo que ese profeta dijo es cierto, así que corrígelos con firmeza para que su fe se fortalezca.

14 De esa manera ellos no prestarán atención a leyendas judías ni a reglas inventadas por los que le dan la espalda a la verdad.
15 Para los de corazón puro, todo es puro, pero para los que están llenos de pecado y no tienen fe, nada es puro. Por el contrario, su manera de pensar y su conciencia están corrompidas.

16 Dicen que conocen a Dios, pero todo lo malo que hacen demuestra que no lo aceptan. Son muy malos, se niegan a obedecer y no son capaces de hacer nada bueno.

Titus 1

Salutation

1 Paul, a bond-servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of those chosen of God and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,2 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago,3 but at the proper time manifested, even His word, in the proclamation with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior,

4 To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Qualifications of Elders

5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you,6  namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion.7 For the overseer must be above reproach as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain,8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled,9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

10 For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,11 who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain.12 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."13 This testimony is true. For this reason reprove them severely so that they may be sound in the faith,14 not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.15 To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.16 They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.
