テトスヘの手紙 2
二
1 しかし、あなたは、真のキリスト教にふさわしい生き方を、教会員に教えなさい。 2 老人には、まじめで落ち着いた生活をするように勧めなさい。 年輪を重ねた者は、考え深く、真理を信じ、すべての点で愛と忍耐とをもって行動しなければなりません。
3 老婦人には、何事にも静かで、ていねいな物腰を忘れないように教えなさい。 陰口をたたいたり、大酒を飲んだりせず、人生経験を積んだ婦人にふさわしく、良いお手本となるべきです。 4-5 そうすれば、若い女性に、落ち着いた生活を送り、夫と子供とを愛し、考え深く、きよらかな心で、家事に精を出し、夫にやさしく従順でいるようにさとせるのです。 そうなれば、クリスチャンの信仰が、身近な人たちから、けなされることもないでしょう。
6 同様に、青年にも、思慮深く、まじめに生活するように勧めなさい。 7 まずあなたが、正しい模範を示すことです。 真理を愛し、何事にも真剣に取り組んでいることが、だれの目にもはっきりわかるようにしなさい。 8 良識的に、筋道を立てて話しなさい。 そうすれば、反対する者たちも、けちをつけることができず、かえって恥じ入るでしょう。
9 奴隷には、主人に喜ばれるよう、言いつけを守り、一生懸命働くように勧めなさい。 口答えはいけません。 10 こそこそと物を盗んだりするのはやめて、自分が全く信頼に値する人間だということを、身をもって示すべきです。 その誠実な態度を見て、ほかの人々も、救い主である神様を信じる気を、起こすかもしれません。
11 というのも、永遠の救いという神様からの贈り物が、今、だれにでも、ただで提供されているからです。 12 しかも、この贈り物をいただくと同時に、神様が私たちに望んでおられることが実現するのです。 それは、神様を認めない生き方と、罪にまみれた快楽とを捨て去って、日々、神様を敬う正しい生活を送ることであり、 13 偉大な神様と救い主イエス・キリストとの栄光が現われる日を、待ち望むようになることです。 14 キリスト様は、私たちの罪のために、神様のさばきを受けて死んでくださいました。 それは、罪のどろ沼にはまり込んで、どうにも動きのとれない私たちを助け出して、ご自分の民とし、心のきよい、熱心な、善意の人と変えてくださるためでした。
15 以上のことを教会員に教えて、実行するように励ましなさい。 必要とあれば、きびしく戒め、誤りを正してやりなさい。 あなたには、当然その権威があるのですから。 あなたの教えが、だれからも軽んじられないように、気をつけなさい。
Titus 2
1 But speak thou the things which befit the sound doctrine:2 that aged men be temperate, grave, sober-minded, sound in faith, in love, in patience:3 that aged women likewise be reverent in demeanor, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;4 that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,5 to be sober-minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed:6 the younger men likewise exhort to be sober-minded:7 in all things showing thyself an ensample of good works; in thy doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity,8 sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of us.9 Exhort servants to be in subjection to their own masters, and to be well-pleasing to them in all things; not gainsaying;10 not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.11 For the grace of God hath appeared, bringing salvation to all men,12 instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world;13 looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;14 who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works.15 These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
