Following the Train
The train of thought of John 15 is as follows:
Abiding (v4) leads the bearing of of much fruit (v5).
The Father is glorified by the bearing of much fruit (v8).
Abiding is defined as keeping Jesus' commandments (v10).
A second consequence of abiding (besides bearing much fruit) is that Jesus joy is in the believer (v11).
Okay, what is the command? It is to love one another (v12).
The best example is to lay down one's life for a friend (v13).
Bottom line? The full joy of abiding in Jesus is obtained by the obedience of loving one another even to the degree of laying down our lives for each other.
