John the Baptist

God was preparing the way for the Messiah.

John was a little different. He didn’t dress like everyone else. He didn’t eat like everyone else. He even lived way out in the desert.

Why would God choose a weird person like him to prepare for the arrival of Jesus?

Why wouldn’t God choose someone well respected, in the city?

John was different because he had a different message. He wasn’t proud, popular, or seeking to be made rich by what he did. He knew what his calling in life was, to point everyone to Jesus. Even when people called him the messiah, he didn’t agree with them, he told them plainly; I am not he, Jesus is.

John was selfless, and sought the praise of God more than the praise of man.
