Matthew 6
Prayer
Jesus teaches us to pray.

In this scripture Jesus is more concerned with where we pray than what we pray!

He say’s don’t go pray on the street corners where everyone will see you. So many times when we pray in front of people we become more concerned with impressing others than communicating with our Father. We want others to think that we are a “good prayer” and are so close to God that He is whispering in our ear every word that we are speaking.

So Jesus says, go away by yourself. Shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father secretly.

This speaks of intimacy.

If my wife and I go to our room and shut the door behind us, that is about to be an intimate time. Intimacy thrives in privacy.

Our relationship with God is no different. When we close the door behind us and shut ourselves off from the outside world for a time, we are setting the mood for intimacy with God. God craves our attention so that He can speak to us, teach us, and lead us.

Is your relationship with God an intimate one?

Are you setting the mood right, in prayer?
