R.E.A.L. - Engaging Others (Rouse)
Dennis Rouse of www.victoryatl.com, in his "REAL" series, talks about how God says, not we are LIKE salt, but he says we ARE salt. But it is useless if it loses its flavor. So what is a good flavor? What is attractive to others? 1) Competence - Be faithful in your job. Do it well. 2) Relevance 3) Service- Recognizing the needs of others and responding. 4) Communication - Knowing the Word and 5) Courageousness - Being confident in the power of God in us. My response to Dennis is that he ventures into the "To Do" of Christianity. This can quickly become convoluted and confusing because it seeps into the realm of what WE are doing versus the Spirit leading us. I interpret what Jesus says to mean keep our eyes open for opportunities where God is working and then to respond as he leads us. There was also a comment about not putting a bumper sticker about Jesus on an old neglected car because it doesn't reflect the excellence of Jesus. Personally, I disagree. Is it any better to see a Jesus bumper sticker on a polished Mercedes? I agree that people respond to the things that Dennis referred to above, but again, I think it is more our response to Christ as faithful servants to respond to his prompting.
