Isaiah 43:18-19 ASV

So often I look to the past and hold on to it as if I will cease to be me if I let go. While it is true that you are shaped by the experiences you have had, God expressly tells us not to (earnestly) remember them. He wants us to be continually moving forward, not stuck looking back. He does not want us to ask for the blessings of yesterday, nor does he want us to forget the lessons we learned then.

He wants to take us to a new place, where we are closer to Him and more like Him. He is doing a new thing. He won't be constrained to a pattern of 'how things are done'. So why do we always look to find the 'formula' of how things were done before, as if that holds the key to how it will be done again?

In the Old Testament, God's people could only know Him via a priest. Priests could only enter the Holy of Holies once a year, carrying the sacrificial blood with them. Thank You Lord that we aren't held to that former thing!! Now we can meet Him as individuals and have an intimate, personal relationship with Him any time of year. Hallelujah!
