An Encounter With God
I love what my devotional says about this passage: "No family is perfect. God uses broken people to accomplish his purposes. He has no other choice. Take Jacob for example. He let his mother manipulate him, he used a costume to steal his brother's blessing, and then he had to run for his life. But Jacob's failure isolated him so that God could deal with him in a personal way.
As painful as they may be, the broken parts of our lives are some of our best opportunities to have an encounter with the living God." (Whitney T. Kuniholm, "The Essential Bible Guide," page 32).
