here in matthew 6:1 it says, "Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don't make a preformance out of it. It might be a good theather, but the God who made you won't be applauding". this means, don't serve or do good for the purpose of other people noticing. but for the purpose of glorify our amazing God. do it to show God's love to other people, not to build ourselves up and show other people what good people we are. in doing that, you're on the brink of pride..and pride goeth before a fall, as the old saying goes.
