Sometimes it helps me to write out what I think is going on in a particular passage. So bear with me....

My name is Paul and I am a slave to Jesus. He called me and gave me the work of proclaiming the Good News of God. Now talking about "God's call" and just what exactly the "Good News" is can be tricky things to talk about. But it doesn't need to be that way. This "Good News" is the very thing we have heard from the prophets, our ancestors, in our Holy Scriptures. And their words of the promised Good News, about God's power to save God's people, they have found their completion in a particular person. Jesus of Nazareth, who as far as his humanity is concerned is related to King David and as far as our worship of him as LORD, he was declared to be the Son of God through the power of his resurrection from the dead. Through him we have had our whole lives changed and a new course has been plotted, one that sends us out to others and bids them to hear this Good News and to trust and live and hope in this very same Jesus.
See, the Good News is not some kind of obscure set of ideals, its a real person -- Jesus! And being called by God isn't something that we waiver in or be surprised about, it is all part of God's saving work. And this work has reached to you!
