Me or Jesus - Four I's (Noble)
Being a Christian is simply a dedicated follower of Christ. We've got to learn how to look at the world through God's eyes. Perry Noble, at www.newspring.cc, finishes his Me or Jesus series, by saying we've got to surrender everything to him. Perry was traveling and speaking about things happening in Anderson. He was in the airport of Orange County, CA and he was walking into an elevator. He turns around and his friends aren't getting on the elevator. Rather than standing and waiting, he yelled to his friends not realizing that a guy in a wheelchair was waiting to get on. It was embarassing because he wasn't patient and willing to wait. Often that's how we react to God. 1) Interest level - We have an interest in many things, an interest that prompts questions in pursuit of truth. Perry goes down a side road explaining when he was first exposed to "Lamb Fries". After showing an interest, he found that these are basically goat testicles; not an answer he expected. In Matthew, a guy goes to Jesus asking how he can attain eternal life. His initial questions drew him to 2) Involvement - Christianity is a daily saying "Yes, Lord". It is a step by step growth process. He must INCREASE; I must decrease. Accept responsibility and obey God's calling. 3) Inspection - Have you ever had that funny thing that something is wrong? Perry and his wife were sitting beside their fireplace and Perry got this really funny feeling that something was wrong. He called a friend in the business, who told him that the logs had a leak of carbon monoxide. Leaving the logs on could have been devastating!! Sometimes disobeying God is devastating. The key words in this passage in Matthew are, "What do I still lack?" Perry was dating a girl he really liked but he spent more time and money on her than on God. Perry said he will never forget when God told him to break up with the girl. He sensed it was because God was saying, "You love her more than me." So, in Matthew, Jesus looks at the young ruler and says, "Sell what you have, give it to the poor and you shall have a treasure in heaven." The man resisted and went away sorrowful. Will we resist or obey?
